Space Systems Command (SSC), headquartered in Los Angeles, California, is responsible for developing, acquiring, equipping, fielding, and sustaining lethal and resilient space capabilities for warfighters. The Command is also responsible for launch operations, on-orbit checkout, developmental testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other Department of Defense space systems. Space Force in partnership with Space Systems Command, has approved the operational acceptance of a major upgrade to the Ground-Based Optical Sensor System (GBOSS). This leap in Space Domain Awareness enhances our ability to detect, track, and respond to objects in deep space—strengthening the space kill chain and supporting joint warfighters.
