ICYMI: Yellow Card has expanded its presence into North America with the launch of Alkepay, its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary. Alkepay is registered with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as a Money Services Business, and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider under the Retail Payments Activities Act. Through it, Yellow Card now offers foreign exchange dealing and cross-border funds transfers to Canadian clients. CEO and co-founder Chris Maurice credited the company's existing relationships with global payments firms, including Visa, Mastercard, Western Union, Thunes, and MoneyGram, as the groundwork for the move. According to Maurice, Yellow Card's infrastructure has processed over $10 billion in stablecoin transactions since inception, with a presence spanning Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Whether local or USD-backed, stablecoins can make money more mainstream.”

The report covers the period from July 2025 to June 2026. However, on the metrics that capture everyday use, Nigeria leads the world. It ranked 1st globally in both domestic peer-to-peer (P2P) activity and cross-border flows, ahead of every other country measured. Chainalysis defines P2P as the value transferred directly between personal wallets within a country, while cross-border flows track transfers moving beyond a country's borders. The broader overall ranking factors in additional measures, including total transaction flows and on-chain wallet balances. Nigeria and South Africa are the only two African countries in the top 20, with South Africa ranking 9th overall, 4th in P2P activity, and 3rd in cross-border flows.
