Climate Week may be over, but one question is still with us: What will it take to sustain the women leading this work? The answer starts with how we support them. Funding. Access to networks. A seat at the table. And spaces where women can connect across generations, share what they’re building, and be honest about what they need to keep going. That was at the heart of Shifting Power: Young Women in Climate, hosted by Black Girl Environmentalist and EmpoderaClima at DVF (Diane von Furstenberg) Studios. Women.NYC was proud to support a morning that brought together young women leaders, funders, and advocates to move beyond celebrating women’s leadership in climate and talk about what it actually takes to resource, sustain, and grow it. Led by Wawa Gatheru and Renata Koch Alvarenga and moderated by Shamah Bulangis, the discussion explored gender and climate, intergenerational power-sharing, and the funding challenges facing women- and youth-led organizations. And it didn’t stop at the panel. Attendees shared the ideas and solutions they’re working on, what they need to move them forward, and what they can offer one another. Because sustaining the women leading climate work is how we build a more sustainable future. Thank you to Black Girl Environmentalist, EmpoderaClima, DVF Studios, and everyone who joined us for such a meaningful morning, and to Alexandra Martinez for leading this partnership for Women.NYC💜 #WomenNYC #ClimateWeekNYC #WomenInClimate #GreenEconomy #ClimateLeadership New York City Economic Development Corporation | Diana Franco| Alexandra Martinez | ShehilaRae Stephens
