Andrew B. liked thisA new chapter for Norrøna – almost 100 years in the making. For decades, the mountains, fjords, coastlines and weather of Northern Norway have inspired our product development, challenged our gear through Extreme User Testing, and provided the backdrop for some of our most memorable storytelling. Now, we want to bring our community even closer to the source. In summer 2027, we will welcome the first guests to Andørja Lodge, our new adventure lodge on one of Northern Norway’s most extraordinary islands: a place where 20 peaks rise more than 1,000 meters straight from the surrounding fjords. “The opening of Andørja Lodge is not only a milestone in our nearly 100-year history. It is also a doorway into an entirely new world for our community.”— Jørgen Jørgensen, Fourth Generation Owner and Leader Andørja Lodge also marks the first lodge in Norrøna Arctic Voyage – our vision for a growing collection of remote adventure lodges in Northern Norway, connected by the sea and our S/Y Varg. For us, this is about bringing two parts of Norrøna even closer together: the products we create and the adventures they are created for. The landscape inspires the gear. The gear enables the adventure. The adventure inspires what we create next. After almost a century of equipping people to experience nature, we are opening the door to the places that have shaped us. Andrew B. liked thisAndrew B. liked thisBig news at Huckberry! We’re thrilled to announce that outdoor and retail industry veteran Todd Spaletto is officially joining Huckberry’s Board of Directors and stepping into an active advisory role as Senior Vice President of Strategy. Todd brings extensive brand-building experience having previously served as Global President of The North Face and most recently as President of Public Lands / SVP at DICK’S Sporting Goods. After working directly with us on our strategic roadmap over the past few months, he will now be embedded alongside our leadership team to help drive our omni-channel expansion, scale our go-to-market engine, and power our next chapter of growth. "Todd’s track record of scaling iconic outdoor and retail brands speaks for itself, but just as importantly, he understands what has made Huckberry special. He brings the exact mix of operational rigor, brand-building wisdom, and grounded perspective we need as we navigate our next chapter of growth." — Richard Greiner and Andrew Forch, Huckberry Co-Founders / Co-CEOs. Welcome to the team, Todd - all ways forward.

My colleague Bryan Eshelman recently spoke with NPR on the challenges in the sneaker market these days. As consumers pull back spending, clearly differentiated products and services become a retailer’s lifeline. If your competitive moat isn’t aligned with customer expectations, it may be time to re-think your approach for the future.

“DICK’S Sporting Goods shares fell more than 30% after the company lowered its full-year outlook.” “Foot Locker comparable sales declined 3.6%, while the core DICK’S business grew comps 4.9%.” “Ed Stack described the athletic footwear market as being in a ‘hangover,’ with too much legacy product and not enough successful newness.” (WWD) Implications: This is a really interesting contrast. DICK’S is growing, while Foot Locker is struggling in essentially the same footwear market. To me, this goes back to assortment diversification. DICK’S can win across running, team sports, outdoor, licensed product and emerging brands, while Foot Locker is much more dependent on athletic footwear and the traditional sneaker cycle. The consumer isn’t necessarily done spending. They’re just not responding to the same product they’ve seen for years. Retailers need newness and energy, and brands need to give them something worth getting excited about. When the product lacks energy, promotions can only do so much. https://lnkd.in/eJNP_TAn

Foot Locker’s turnaround is proving to be a significant challenge for Dick’s Sporting Goods. Following its $2.4 billion acquisition of Foot Locker, Dick’s is reviewing underperforming locations, optimizing inventory and closing stores that no longer align with its long-term strategy. The company is also expanding its promising “Fast Break” remodel concept, which features a more focused assortment and an improved in-store experience. The broader retail lesson? Footprint optimization isn’t simply about closing stores—it’s about investing in the right locations, products and customer experiences. Can store remodels and a tighter assortment restore Foot Locker’s momentum, or is the athletic footwear market undergoing a more fundamental shift?
