Pleased to announce that our article, "Structuring the Story: Teaching Narrative for UX Portfolios" by Timothy M. Ponce and Emma J. Rose, has been published in the latest issue of Communication Design Quarterly. It was a joy to work with Tim on this article that shares a framework we developed for developing narrative for UX portfolios. I've been using this framework in the Innovation and Design minor at IIGE UWTacoma for the past few years. How does a career in UX evolve over time? I’m excited to join the PhillyCHI: 2026 UX Community Conference during the DesignPhiladelphia Festival on October 8. I’ll be part of the panel, “Growing Through UX: Lessons from Different Roles, Industries, and Career Stages,” sharing what I’ve learned across nearly two decades in UX, from hands-on practitioner to design leader, hiring manager, strategist, and educator. We’ll have an honest conversation about navigating complex organizations, moving between individual contributor and leadership roles, influencing stakeholders, and making intentional choices about where you want to grow next. The conference also includes talks, hands-on workshops, networking, and perspectives from across Philadelphia’s UX community. I hope to see some familiar faces there. Details below!
