Ashley Fieglein Johnson shared thisWhen I joined Planet, so many threads of my life converged into my dream job. From my roots in international policy, to doing meaningful work for the planet, then being the financial partner to a team of bright innovators, everything came together to create the ideal opportunity for me. Six and a half years later, I’m even more fulfilled than I could ever have imagined. I am working with a global team of smart, talented and driven Planeteers, and we’re using space and technology to tackle critical challenges, from managing peace accords to addressing climate change and beyond, while building an enduring, profitable business. https://lnkd.in/gPK4dfwDThe story behind the spreadsheet - San Francisco Business TimesThe story behind the spreadsheet - San Francisco Business Times

Ashley Fieglein Johnson shared thisIt’s amazing to see the power of Planet data in the hands of passionate, brilliant people who are working to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The work referenced below for the Amazon.IA initiative is some of the most comprehensive work to measure and track biodiversity at scale in support of the people on the ground actively preserving and restoring it. I’m so proud that we are a part of this program, using space to help life on earth!Ashley Fieglein Johnson shared thisToday was a milestone for #biodiversity assessment and #conservation, and Planet's ongoing journey to use space to help life on Earth. After several years of quiet, persistent development, we finally publicly unveiled our work on Amazon.IA, a moonshot effort that will use advanced sensing and analytics to comprehensively track Amazon #biodiversity in real time. The initiative brings together a network of renowned technical and scientific organizations from across the Amazon and around the world — biological field research stations, technical specialists in #acoustic, video, #eDNA, and satellite sensing, and scientific #AI specialists — who will work together to produce insights about every hectare of the living biome of the Amazon. Work is already underway, and the results will be turned into a #digitalpublicgood designed to help frontline frontline communities, local governments, and conservation actors steward the Amazon more effectively. It is, quite simply, the most ambitious and comprehensive #biodiversity assessment initiative underway anywhere on Earth, and we hope it will serve as a model for how we assess #nature in other biomes around the world. You can evaluate an initiative by who it convenes, and the list of partners is incredible. They include (in alphabetical order) the Andes Amazon Fund, Arizona State University (Asner Lab), Associação de Levantamento Florestal do Amazonas(ALFA), Bezos Earth Fund, Conservación Amazónica - ACCA, Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Cornell University (Davis Lab), George Mason University (Luther Lab), Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia / MCTI, Instituto De Desenvolvimento Sustentavel Mamiraua, Instituto Humboldt, International Barcode of Life Consortium (iBOL), Limelight Rainforest, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Beery Lab), Microsoft AI for Good Lab, National Museum of Natural History, Bolivia, Planet, Smithsonian Institution ForestGEO, Tiputini Biodiversity Station, Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Rivas Torres Lab), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, University of Guelph Centre for Biodiversity Genomics, Wildlife Conservation Society - Bolivia, Wildlife Insights, WildMon, World Resources Institute, and WWF. Note the balance of institutions and geographies -- it's a model of South-North collaboration at scale. Congratulations to everyone involved. It's truly a great day for the Amazon. Ashley Fieglein Johnson shared thisIt’s important to step away from the computer, get out into the field, and remember why we do what we do. So last Friday, I took a field trip! I spent an inspiring afternoon out at the Sonoma Mountain Institute with Byron Palmer and Natalie McCullough to explore what we might accomplish if we pair high-frequency satellite data with a decade of boots-on-the-ground rangeland monitoring. A big thanks to Wendy Millet from TomKat Ranch for connecting us to talk through a shared challenge: how to turn massive amounts of field data, weather patterns, and satellite imagery into simple, actionable, tools for land managers. If we’re successful, we can uncover patterns across complex ecosystems and calculate the ROI of regenerative agriculture at scale. The opportunity to drive this kind of impact is why Planet exists, and I’m excited to work with innovators like Byron to explore the art of the possible.

Ashley Fieglein Johnson reacted on thisAshley Fieglein Johnson reacted on thisLast weekend, my friend Ashley Fieglein Johnson hosted a fundraiser for OPERATION ENCORE a small nonprofit that helps veteran and active duty musicians develop, record and share their music. We heard several of them perform in her living room. Their songs were powerful, beautifully written, and some were difficult to hear, especially for me as the mum of a 16-year-old who wants to join the military one day. With funding being cut across the board, small organizations doing good work need more of us to notice them. We’re all busy with work, family and life, but I’m grateful to have been included in this small gathering, since I might never have otherwise heard these amazing musicians. If an organization strikes a chord with you (pun very much intended! 😁), support it if you can and tell someone else about it. I’ve written more about the evening, with links to the artists and their music: https://lnkd.in/gx6Q3be7 #Veterans #VeteranMusicians #Nonprofits

Ashley Fieglein Johnson reacted on thisAshley Fieglein Johnson reacted on thisI had an extraordinary week in NYC for the United Nations General Assembly and NY Climate Week. First, a sincere thank you to the men and women of the NYPD and NYFD for their service during #UNGA. The scale and complexity of keeping NYC safe during one of the world’s largest gatherings of global leaders is enormous. Every year, I call my childhood friend, Lieutenant Steve Van Soest, to thank him for his service during UNGA. This year, I was fortunate to run into Steve in person. It was a special moment between lifelong friends and a reminder that behind the enormous operation of UNGA are individuals working long hours and making sacrifices. Climate Week brought an equally intense and inspiring set of conversations about our planet’s future. I loved Blue Forest and Generation Asset Management’s discussion on financing forest resilience in an era of wildfires, and Climate Capital Reset and Carbon Collective’s conversation on “The Great Refactoring.” I was also grateful to spend time learning more about Health In Harmony and its work protecting tropical rainforests while supporting the communities that depend on them. Perhaps my most important reflection was personal. This was my first NYC Climate Week in years without Jane Goodall. I hadn't fully appreciated how much Jane’s presence and perspective had shaped my experience of these gatherings. Without her, I found myself noticing a missing voice in many conversations: Jane’s voice for nature itself. That made The Jane Goodall Institute gathering especially meaningful. Our team, including Anna Rathmann, Mary Ford, Alice Macharia, Lilian Pintea, Daniel Kemp, Erin Griffin, Rachel Strittmatter, CPA, Oona Spaeth and others, brought me back to something that can get lost in the broader climate conversation: nature is not simply a collection of assets or resources. It's a living, interconnected system with value in its own right. That means listening, especially to Indigenous peoples, whose knowledge, leadership and lived experience are essential to protecting biodiverse ecosystems and our planet’s future. Jane’s voice has always connected science with compassion, action with responsibility, and the challenges we face with something we desperately need: HOPE. Not passive optimism, but hope as a reason to keep showing up. To keep listening. And, for me, deep gratitude in having the opportunity to build leadership teams for the next generation of high-impact organizations focused on meaningful, positive societal impact. Ultimately, NYClimateWeek is about our shared home. I left NY grateful for the conversations, inspired by the people and reminded of why we can be part of realizing a world where people and planet thrive together in our lifetime @Anisa Kamadoli Costa Brett Jenks Suzanne DiBianca Charlotte Kaiser Bill Tarr Will Coleman Malaika Vaz Andrew Mayock Lila Preston Eduardo Silveira Mufarej John Morton Ashley Fieglein Johnson, Reece Pacheco Taryn Goodman Gallery Zach KnightZach Knight Luciana Antonini RibeiroLuciana Antonini Ribeiro
