Avner Ronen reposted thisAvner Ronen reposted thisYou have probably heard about 4 year-old Abigail, who was released from Hamas Captivity. However, you probably didn't hear 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. Abigail's face became famous all over the world after she was kidnapped by Hamas, along with 240 other hostages. #usa president Biden followed her release, after being held in Hamas captivity for more than 50 days. Abigail's parents were murdered by Hamas during October 7 massacre. Abigail escaped her house and was taken by her neighbors, who reported that Abigail was covered in blood, not her own. Later on Abigail was kidnapped with her neighbors. Abigail siblings – Michael, 9 year-old and Amalia, 6 year-old - stayed in their house, while Hamas terrorists entered and called them to come out. The 2 children hid in a closet for 14 hours! Watch MSNBC video, which describes 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝. Dozens, maybe hundreds, of babies and children are seriously harmed by Hamas brutal attack on October 7. Dozens of children were murdered, dozens more were kidnapped, many children lost their families, and many more children were severely traumatized. It will take a long time for the extent and depth of these atrocities become clear. Avner Ronen shared thisAvner Ronen shared this💔 😢 🎼 There is something universal about music - harmony and human happiness, regardless or religion, belief, anything. Not so on Oct 7th, 2023 at the Nova festival. Among its other atrocities Hamas' attack in the will go down as the worst terror attack on any music or culture event ever. Just imagine - hundreds of young, beautiful and innocent people dancing and enjoying music. Our kind of people... Suddenly thrust into the worst kind of horror, violence and cruelty. It is literally enough to lose faith in the human race.

Avner Ronen liked thisAvner Ronen liked thisMy wife spent the last few years making a film about what this country does to mothers. This weekend, it opens in a theater in Greenwich Village. "No Country for Mothers" is Reshma's investigation into the lies American moms have been sold — that the impossible math of childcare, work, and leave is a personal failing rather than a policy choice. More than 2,500 moms and caregivers signed on as associate producers, which broke the world record for most producers ever credited on a film. Of course they did. To qualify for an Oscar, a film needs a theatrical run. So Moms First booked their own room at Cinema Village for a full week: September 18–24. I've had a front-row seat to this one — the late nights, the cuts, the arguments about what to leave in (and also, a cameo 🙈)! If you're in New York, come see it. Bring your partner, your team, your best friend, anyone who needs to see their own story on a screen. Ticket link in comments below. If you're not in NYC you can see the movie by finding or hosting a watch party in your neighborhood from the Moms First website. Congratulations, Reshma Saujani and team Moms First !!! 🎬

Avner Ronen liked thisAvner Ronen liked thisAfter more than 4 years, Bruce and I are closing our chapter at Samsung Electronics America I first joined the TV & Mobile Services Organization as a Strategic Partnerships Manager back in 2022, shortly after graduating from UCLA Anderson School of Management. Less than a year in, I stepped into a new challenge: becoming the first person to lead strategy and business operations for our VP, Maya Harris. It has been an incredible journey growing out the team and supporting such a high performing department of the company. I’ll always be grateful for the challenges that pushed me to become a stronger strategic leader, my managers and peers that supported me through late night presentation building, and being able to witness the new developments and growth of the Samsung TV & Mobile Devices (and truly seeing just what a screen can do and become!) Looking back, I feel nothing but gratitude for how this journey unfolded. I'm excited for what's next, more on that soon. 👀

Avner Ronen liked thisAvner Ronen liked thisI’m so excited to share that I’ve started my journey studying Creative Writing at Columbia University! 🦁 💙 As part of the MFA Nonfiction concentration, I will be refining my ability to research diligently and write from a place of honesty, nuance, and clarity. Here I will share a bit of how I arrived at this incredible opportunity as well as my attitude as I look towards the future. ⬇️ If you were to look at my academic and professional trajectory, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking it unfocused or eclectic. However, there is one throughline that has always informed my choices and aspirations: creativity 🎨 and problem-solving. 🧠 These two passions have always been at the forefront, from my time making quick and consequential decisions as an EMT on the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad, to the technical knowledge and creative techniques I learned studying Computer Science and Game Development at Northeastern University, to just recently being a full stack developer in the fast-paced and dynamic environment of Dimer Health. This program at Columbia is a natural extension of my most basic interests, and my excitement is only growing as I meet all of the passionate faculty and students that I will be learning alongside. Wherever I go from here, it will be from the same place of reverence for creativity and problem-solving in all its forms. After all, that pursuit has never failed me yet. Thank you to Brandon Sichling, Fox Zarow, and Jeremy Bushnell for being so generous with your time and for believing in me. Through coordinating with you all and organizing my application, I began to understand that this endeavor was real and worthwhile. 👀 If you want to read more about my transition from computer science to different creative avenues, feel free to check out my substack article here: https://lnkd.in/eGEFxvY9 Thank you again to everyone that made this possible; I’m so grateful for this next chapter.

Avner Ronen liked thisAvner Ronen liked thisI predict a massive tech backlash. I don’t know a single person who isn’t utterly disgusted with the tech titans right now. How much money they’ve made. How little they’ve given back. How they carry themselves like they’re above everybody else. How they seem to control everything, thanks to the Supreme Court giving Super PACs the ability to impact our elections. How they’ve captured every scrap of our data, lied to us about what they’re actually watching and collecting, and never really answered for any of it. People are pissed. Take Instagram. It’s a genuinely useful app — for sharing family photos, design ideas, building an audience for your business, recipes, DIY projects, podcasts, interesting videos, or whatever you want to pass along. But look at what it’s actually done to us. It’s built a culture that, at its core, is vapid. Take the photo, post the photo, become an “influencer.” We rented out a boat for an afternoon with a crew so we could enjoy the experience. It didn’t take long for any of us to realize that the journey is set up around “Instagrammable” moments. We bought cheese and wine for the outing, and the next thing I know, one of the crew has taken all the goodies and built a cheeseboard that looks good in photos. Did I ask for you to cube my cheese? The crew member obviously wanted us to acknowledge it and hashtag them. Is this what people only want to do? She basically said, “Look at this beautiful cheeseboard I made for you; it is my favorite thing to do.” Really? We were lucky to see a group of dolphins leaping out of the water. The crew’s reaction was to circle in any direction so we could photograph the dolphins; literally, he said, “Take photos!” What happened to just being in the moment? What happened to actually enjoying the day instead of documenting it for an audience? And what happens to all these influencers in ten, twenty, or thirty years? This isn’t a real way to build a life or an income unless, of course, you are on OnlyFans. It’s a strange, revealing window into where peoples heads are right now, and it’s not flattering. I’m hoping more people start choosing platforms like DuckDuckGo, so we can start pulling back from the tech titans show. I am definitely making conscious decisions about which platforms I use. Does anyone really need another app? I think we’re standing at the edge of major change. Retail, technology, transportation, banking — nothing is going to come out of this “gilded era” unscathed. This has been building since the Reagan years, with those who want to pull us backward toward something that no longer exists, paired with the current holders of power. You cannot go backward. And when that collides with where we actually are, something breaks. I’m predicting massive shifts ahead. It will hit the stock market. It has already hit the cost of goods. It will touch nearly everything we’ve built our daily lives around. I can take decades to build something, and it can all change in a second.

Well, that is the past because Sonos CEO, Tom Conrad and team sure look like they did that job, and then some. Not only did they lean all the way into the joke with the best product relaunch invite ever, the team put on a master class in connected devices in the age of AI. I cannot wait to kit out my home and office with everything they showed off. (link to presentation in comments)

(I still have vivid memories of my first trip to Yosemite when I was a kid.) Today we brought a little of that home. The Samsung Electronics Art Store just launched a new collection with the National Park Foundation: 40 photographs by Jonathan Irish, shot across the National Park System. Zion, Acadia, Rocky Mountain, Yosemite's granite cliffs, the redwoods, skies full of stars. The timing means something. The National Park Service just turned 110, and this collection supports the Foundation's work to connect people with the parks and keep them protected for the next generation of family trips. Jonathan has spent years in these places and it shows. These aren't stock landscapes. They're the view you remember from the trail, now on your wall. After 15+ years working at the intersection of corporate strategy, venture capital, and innovation, I’m excited to officially launch SetSail Strategy. Innovate. Inspire. Impact. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to: - Build and lead corporate venture initiatives - Work alongside founders scaling deep-tech companies - Support over $100M in fundraising and new venture development - Bridge the gap between startups and global enterprises One thing has become clear: Innovation doesn’t fail because of ideas. It fails in execution, alignment, and strategy. That’s why I started SetSail Strategy. We partner with: - Startups looking to scale, raise capital, and navigate growth - Corporations seeking to build innovation engines and venture strategies Our focus is simple: Turn strategy into execution—and execution into measurable impact. If you're building, scaling, or rethinking your growth strategy, I’d love to connect. #SetSailStrategy #Innovation #VentureStrategy #Startups #CorporateInnovation #Leadership
