Brad Lightcap reposted thisBrad Lightcap reposted thisOpenAI was named an Emerging Leader in the 2025 Gartner® Innovation Guide for Generative AI Model Providers. It’s a nice milestone – and another sign of something we’re seeing every day: AI becoming core infrastructure for how work gets done. More than 1M businesses now use OpenAI, and they’re moving from experiments to deployment faster than ever – shipping agents, multi-modal workflows, and intelligent apps that drive real ROI. Grateful for the recognition, but honestly even more energized by what our customers are building. Thanks to everyone pushing the boundaries with us. More thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/gHe_Sue2

Brad Lightcap reposted thisBrad Lightcap reposted thisSince our founding in 2021, our team at Synapticure Inc. has worked to translate the specialized neurodegenerative disease care found at top academic centers into a virtual clinic model. Now on a daily basis, we bring world-class care into patients’ homes across the United States--covered by insurance, and accessible within days of sign-up. We’ve assembled a team of exceptional sub-specialized neurologists who provide round-the-clock support and bring deep expertise on the latest therapies, clinical trials, and symptomatic treatments. Our care navigation team works in lockstep with them, taking the burden off families to navigate the challenges these diseases present, from insurance coverage to prior authorizations and finding local resources. While this comprehensive care model has been game-changing for families and their quality of life, our patients have consistently voiced another need: mental health support. The majority of our patients and caregivers had never been offered the chance to talk with a therapist or a psychiatrist--and those who had faced long wait times, patchy insurance coverage, and therapists who often had little to no experience with their specific disease. Our patients and their families deserve more, which is why we launched our Collaborative Care program for mental health, ensuring every patient is offered this support from the outset. I’m incredibly proud of what our team is building and the impact we’re having, and am so excited to bring this to more families. If you know someone battling Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, Parkinson’s, ALS, PLS, Parkinson’s, or Huntington’s, feel free to reach out to me or have them connect with our team directly at https://lnkd.in/gsdEy-WK.

We covered a lot of ground, ranging from what we learned from Sora, to how creators (including non-technical ones) can leverage Chat and Codex, to what moat creators have in a world where everyone is using AI. I believe that creators are small businesses (and, hopefully, eventually large ones!). And at the core of any successful creator is an ability to create content that engages, educates, or inspires people. That's what they want to spend their time on. It's a rare skill and something that truly differentiates them. I think AI can help with everything that supports that skill, leaving humans to focus on what humans are great at. Someone in the audience asked me directly what I think creators should be building with AI. I told them that I'd never have the exact right answer for that question, but that they would. Start with what you want to accomplish and go from there. I guarantee that if you just start talking to Chat and Codex, your question or idea will accelerate into something meaningful. And I literally mean talk to Chat / Codex! Voice mode has been a massive unlock for me because it's so much more natural than typing. The ambitions of creators are broad, and increasingly they have access to tools like ChatGPT and Codex that can help them move faster across many parts of their work, whether it's figuring out how to run an effective marketing campaign, redesigning and building a website, optimizing a script and thumbnails to maximize audience engagement and viewership, or better understanding their audience and how to optimize their content for engagement. I'm so energized by helping creative people and media companies of all sizes and shapes figure out how to use this technology in practical ways. If you have great examples of creators using AI, I would love to listen and learn more. (Also huge thanks to the events team for making sure there was a giant screen behind me with my face on it during our chat - this might have to be a standard part of my rider moving forward)

The highlight was hearing directly from our customers about the impact they’re already seeing, and how they’re thinking about scaling it even further across their organizations. A huge thank you to Jonathan at Deutsche Telekom, Deepti at Publicis Groupe, Anja at Novo Nordisk, and Alvaro Morón at Inditex for taking the stage. The conversation has moved beyond whether AI can create value. Leaders are now focused on how to make it practical, trusted, and embedded in the workflows that run their businesses. Grateful to everyone who joined us in London. Excited for what we’ll build together next. #SamaImageGen2PhotoBooth

Brad Lightcap reacted on thisToday I shared some personal news with my team at OpenAI, and now I want to share it with you. Earlier this year—just weeks into my dream job—I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. We moved to SF on days’ notice for treatment, arriving Super Bowl Sunday. For the past five months, I’ve been undergoing chemo at UCSF while leading our marketing team. It’s been the hardest season of life—for me, my husband, and our two young kids. And yet, I’ve learned something I’ll carry forever: no one fights alone. Silicon Valley can be sharp-edged—fast, competitive, transactional. But getting sick revealed something deeper. I’ve seen up close the generosity and humanity that still connect us. We’re not cogs in the same machine—we’re waves from the same sea. People showed up. They found us a home, a school, the best doctors. They walked our dog, made dinner, prayed for us, sent care packages, took on more at work. Family, friends, colleagues, strangers—I was wrapped in love before I even knew how much I needed it. I’m grateful to say my prognosis is excellent, and I’m expected to make a full recovery. I’ve never been prouder of my team—they are among the most creative and capable marketers I’ve worked with. Now, it’s time to focus fully on healing. Starting today, I’m taking a 3-month medical leave. To ensure continuity, my longtime mentor and former Meta CMO, Gary Briggs will step in as interim head of marketing. Gary is the most generous, principled leader I know. He taught me so much—especially on kindness—and I’m beyond grateful. The team will thrive under him. Huge thanks to OpenAI and LoveFrom—especially Brad Lightcap, Sam Altman, Jony Ive, Fidji Simo, Sarah Russell, Amanda Spitz, and Austin MacPhee. The humanity in this company is real—and a core part of what makes us different. Thank you to the ChatGPT and research teams. I’ve leaned on our tools at every step—from explaining cancer to my kids, to managing chemo side effects and creating meditations for many scary times. UCSF researchers are using our models to improve care. Experiencing our work as a patient has made OpenAI’s mission feel more personal and important. Thank you to Claire McDonnell and Molly Graham, my best friends. To Caryn Marooney, Katia Verresen, Eric Antonow, Ron Conway, Elliot Schrage, Chris Lehane, and many others who carried us. 7 years ago an executive I admire shared openly that she was fighting breast cancer. She was my first call and connected me to the doctor that is saving my life. Stories matter. If not today, in time. 1 in 8 American women will get invasive breast cancer. 42,000 die every year. Rates are rising for young women. I’m sharing my story (and bald head) to get their attention and encourage them to prioritize their health over the demands of families and jobs. A routine exam saved my life. It could save yours too. I’ll be back soon. –Kate P.S. I won’t respond to messages until I return. It’s time to rest. Thank you for understanding.

I'm wrapping up my time at OpenAI and joining Thrive Capital to partner on all things marketing with the startups and founders across their incredible portfolio. Joining OpenAI as its first marketer was nothing short of an extraordinary experience—I had the privilege of building the marketing foundations and an amazing team across our B2B, B2C, and B2D motions. We designed brand-new experiences and programs for developers, startups, and enterprises. We launched some massive model and product updates. We defined the self-serve journey with our first big website overhaul, and charted the very unique flavor of what GTM means at OpenAI. And so much more. It was equal parts jam-packed and exciting, but also one of the most creative segments of my career, with an opportunity to think from first principles on so many aspects of marketing. As for what’s next, returning to my startup roots feels like a homecoming, but much more so with the team at Thrive. I've gotten to know the team as an operator at both Stripe and OpenAI, and what really distinguishes them is how hands-on they get and how they feel like just an extension of the in-house team. They are masters of their discipline and craft. In my role, I’ll be spending my time with founders and operators to help them maximize the impact marketing can have on their businesses. I’m excited to share some of my learnings from building and scaling marketing orgs at Stripe, Retool, and OpenAI—but perhaps more importantly, to support them in tackling novel and unique challenges that no one else has had to figure out before. If you’re in the Thrive portfolio, please reach out! Thanks again to the stellar team at OpenAI, I’ll miss you and will always be wildly cheering you on! And to the team at Thrive, thank you for the warm welcome! 🚀

Brad Lightcap reacted on thisBrad Lightcap reacted on thisA personal announcement: I want to share the exciting news that this week I am moving into a newly-created role here at OpenAI: VP of Global Impact. In this new role, I will be leading our efforts to design and drive forward new flagship partnerships and other high-impact global initiatives that advance our mission to benefit all of humanity and ensure more people around the world access the benefits of AI, as well as leading OpenAI’s broader global advocacy for these goals. I have been at OpenAI for 3 years now, and even though I have technically had the same position this entire time, in reality I have had a dozen different jobs as we launched ChatGPT, engaged global policymakers, and grew the global affairs team from one (me!) to 50 incredible colleagues around the world. As the company, my team, and the complexity of the global regulatory environment have scaled, I’ve had less bandwidth personally for the type of global engagement and impact-focused work that originally drew me to OpenAI. In this new role, I am excited for the opportunity to return to doing more of this work directly, to think and aim even bigger around what we can achieve with our partners, and to create new models of community participation. I am so grateful to Sam, Jason K., Chris Lehane, and my incredible team for supporting me in taking on this next challenge and excited to keep working alongside them in this new capacity. As the impact of this technology has grown, it’s more important than ever for us to concretely answer the question of how these tools are going to benefit humanity…My hope is that this team can be part of our answer! The fact that I’m fully supported to take on a role like this one is what makes OpenAI so unique and what makes me so excited to be here. Thanks for your partnership so far, and please reach out with your boldest ideas going forward! Let’s build a better future together 💪🏾🦾

Founder-centric investment approaches are reshaping how enduring companies are built. Traditional investment often focuses on short-term gains or quick exits. But lasting success demands active partnership with founders, aligned on long-term vision and operational support. At Mandalore Partners, we prioritize this founder-centric model, blending strategic capital with hands-on guidance. This approach has empowered startups to navigate complex markets, scale sustainably, and create real value beyond initial funding rounds. For example, in the insurtech sector, startups benefiting from this model have seen accelerated growth by integrating expert advice on governance and go-to-market strategies, not just receiving capital. This results in stronger businesses capable of adapting and thriving through market shifts. For founders, this means having a partner who understands your vision, supports execution, and shares your commitment to building a resilient company. Are you ready to explore how a founder-centric investment approach can change your company's growth trajectory? #VentureCapital #VentureCapitalAsAService #VCaaS

One takeaway from GoVCLab’s piece on emerging VC deal sourcing: strong dealflow isn’t luck it’s built. In NYC, the best pre-seed opportunities don’t come from cold inbound. They come from being in the rooms, building real relationships, and being clear about your thesis. As I focus on founders in early stage tech , I’m realizing sourcing is really about trust. The more value you add and the more consistent you are, the more the right deals find you. Curious what’s worked for others building early-stage pipelines in NYC. https://lnkd.in/eNCEjXqx
