Brendan Smith liked thisBrendan Smith liked thisAfter 12+ years at VerticalScope, a very meaningful chapter of my career has come to a close. I never would’ve guessed I’d spend over a decade helping grow the Powersports side of the business, working with amazing brands, agencies, OEMs, and a lot of great people along the way. What I’ll remember most are the relationships that came out of it. Many clients became long-term partners, and a lot of those partnerships turned into genuine friendships over the years. I learned a lot—not just about the business, but about myself, how I work, and the kinds of relationships and teams I value most. Right now, I’m taking some time to think about what’s next, reconnect with people, and stay open to new conversations and opportunities. And to everyone I worked with over the years: thank you. I appreciated the collaboration, partnerships, and trust more than you know.

Brendan Smith liked thisBrendan Smith liked thisThis Friday was my last day at Sugar Foods. I want to thank the leadership and the R&D team there for giving me the opportunity to be successful and trusting me with a wide variety of projects. We made many products that everyone enjoys at their favorite restaurants, and seeing the fruits of our R&D labors was extremely rewarding for me. I enjoyed working with everyone there and wish them all the success! My wife and I made the decision to pick up and move our lives to her home country of Sweden! After selling everything we own and ensuring our (grown) kids are settled into their new lives, we will be landing at Stockholm Arlanda airport mid-June. To say we are excited in this new chapter is an understatement! I am seeking out opportunities to lead in brewery operations or food/beverage R&D. With over 14 years of leadership experience and masters of science degree on biology, I approach challenges analytically and provide structure to teams to help us all reach our goals together. Brendan Smith liked thisBrendan Smith liked thisJust wrapped up an incredible few days at the Association of National Advertisers Brand Masters Conference in Los Angeles, and I'm leaving more inspired than ever. Here are my three biggest takeaways: 1️⃣ The power of connection is your greatest asset. Not just the relationships you build in the room — though those matter enormously — but the deep, genuine connection you forge with your consumer. The brands winning right now are the ones who truly understand who they're talking to and make them feel seen. 2️⃣ Your personal taste is not your target audience. Just because a piece of creative doesn't resonate with you doesn't mean it isn't landing perfectly with the people it's meant for. The most effective marketers know the difference — and trust the consumer over their own instincts. 3️⃣ Think big — and then think bigger. How do you take a cultural moment like the Super Bowl and let it fuel your entire creative strategy for the year? How do you mine a comment section on social media and turn it into your next product innovation? The best brands aren't just reacting to culture — they're building systems to harness it. And the best surprise of the week? Running into my friend and USD classmate Molly Perlich! A great reminder that sometimes the best part of a conference happens in the hallway. Grateful for the perspectives, the conversations, and the inspiration. Now it's time to put it all to work. 💪 #ANABrandMasters #Marketing #BrandLeadership #ConsumerInsights #MarketingStrategy

Brendan Smith liked thisBrendan Smith liked thisProud moments for the Cann team as we continue building momentum across the country. Very thankful to be part of the Sprouts Farmers Market sets with our 2MG and 5MG offerings in Texas and Florida with a gondola feature currently running in Florida. Our expansion into Spec's Liquor led by Brian Woodard is already showing strong results thanks to our #Texas team’s display execution and sampling efforts. Our Total Wine & More partnership keeps accelerating — with an end‑cap program in #Louisiana and upcoming July–September features across three additional states. Meanwhile, Circle K continues to deliver in #Florida, #SouthCarolina, and #NorthCarolina, and our expansion into #Illinois and #Indiana has been exciting to bring to life. Stop into a Lowes Foods in the Carolinas and you’ll see us on display thanks to the great work by Alexa Rape and Joe Assencoa. We also officially launched in Rouses Markets in #Louisiana with our partner at Mexcor International and expanding into Tom Thumb Stores in the FL Panhandle led by the great work of Dina Floyd. All of these chain wins come with a lot of hard work and a true partnership mentality and cross functional work. Very thankful for the collaboration between Stephan Jannuzzo, Rob Bair, Sarah Haney, MBA, Dan Marmor and Danielle Nicoll in bringing solutions to our chain partners and of course we appreciate each and every category manager for your support of the category & CANN - the best is yet to come and many more wins to share as we accelerate into the key selling season! Lastly, a huge shoutout to our newly hired Market Manager team — Talya Shalev (TX), Aja Baliker (FL), Bobby Lopez (IL), Neal Glazner (TX), Andy Boterman (MN), Maxwell Bittner (GA), and Stephanie Griffin (TX) — who have hit the ground running and are making a meaningful impact across their markets through chain execution, new door growth, and display activation. With very high double‑digit retail sales growth YTD and nearly doubling our door and POD growth YoY, we’re energized by the work ahead and grateful for the partnership of our distributor network nationwide. On a personal note, I really enjoyed seeing a ton of industry legends at The Beverage Forum including the team at LA Libations and meeting several colleagues in the hemp beverage space; thank you for your time and pleasure connecting with you! Thank you: Nick Fasano Robert Peck Jake Bullock for believing and supporting the game plan. LFG! #cpg #hempbeverages #beverage #retail #partnerships #distribution #chain

Q1 results underline two structural wins of KO vs PEP. 1. Pepsi’s food business (Frito-Lay, Quaker) has been under more consumer pressure, while Coke is a pure-play beverage company benefiting from strong global demand for its brands. 2. Coke essentially sold off its bottling burden and collects high-margin concentrate/royalty revenue. Pepsi still carries the capital-heavy, lower-margin bottling operations on its own balance sheet which is a key reason Coke’s 35% operating margin towers over Pepsi’s 16.5%. Pepsi reaffirmed guidance but didn’t raise it; Coke did. Post earnings release, since start of May until today bulls went with KO, pushing stock price +2%, bears with PEP, pulling it down -5%. Cause and effect in action..

🔥 BBQ sauces… now merchandised next to bourbon? That’s not a hypothetical. Heritage Distilling Co. partnered with JT’s Original Louisiana Bar-B-Que Sauce to create a bourbon-infused BBQ sauce — sold in tasting rooms and online alongside their spirits. 📉 With U.S. liquor volumes softening and category growth under pressure, brands need to evolve their RGM playbook. Traditional levers like price and promo aren’t enough. Enter: brand as a platform. 🥃 This isn’t just a side hustle condiment. It’s a case study in: • Extending brand equity into high-frequency occasions like grilling • Premiumizing the portfolio with low-risk, high-margin extensions • Meeting the shopper at a different moment, but with the same emotional connection 🔍 Why it works: ✅ Uses the actual bourbon as an ingredient — authenticity matters ✅ Sold in a liquor channel — reinforcing halo and brand stature ✅ Adds value without cannibalizing core product 💡 What U.S. RGM teams should ask: • Where can our brand credibly stretch beyond the shelf it started on? • How can we link pack, price, and place around occasion, not just category? • What cross-category partnerships will help us buffer against volume headwinds? In this era of shifting behaviors and blurred category lines, the brands that win are the ones that move from product-first to platform-minded. 📣 Tagging all CPG and beverage RGM leaders: Your next growth lever might not be on your P&L yet. It could be in your pantry. #RGM #RevenueGrowthManagement #BrandStrategy #AlcoholIndustry #PlatformThinking #OccasionMarketing #FoodAndBeverage #InnovationInCPG #ShopperInsights #CrossCategoryGrowth

There’s been an ongoing conversation in tequila about what 100 percent Blue Weber agave actually communicates to consumers. Under CRT standards, tequila labeled 100 percent agave may contain up to one percent additives by volume. As people learn more about the category, they’re starting to look past the front label and ask how a flavor actually gets there. We sweeten our tequila with a very small amount of natural avocado blossom honey from an apiary in Amatitán, the same region our agave grows in, and we choose to talk about it openly. Avocado trees flower for a short window each year and depend heavily on bee pollination to set fruit. While bees work the orchards they collect nectar that becomes avocado blossom honey. No pollination means no avocados and no honey harvest. In the same valley, agave depends on nocturnal pollinators to reproduce naturally. So both ingredients in the glass come from the same ecosystem. Day pollination and night pollination supporting the same agricultural cycle. The goal is simple. Rather than pretending flavor appears on its own, we prefer to be transparent about where it comes from. As tequila matures, people are asking better questions than what it tastes like. They are asking how it got there.

Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) is at a pivotal moment in the beverage industry, showcasing how strategic mergers can reshape market dynamics. Formed from a significant merger in 2018, KDP has diversified its portfolio to include over 125 brands across various drink categories, positioning itself as a leader in the nonalcoholic sector. Tim Cofer, who recently took the helm as CEO, embodies a fresh and disruptive vision. His approach emphasizes agility and a challenger mindset aimed at invigorating KDP’s operations and product offerings. Cofer's recent $1.65 billion acquisition of the energy drink brand Ghost signifies a bold strategy to keep pace with emerging competitors and consumer trends. Despite reporting $15.4 billion in net sales for fiscal year 2024—a 3.6% increase—KDP still faces challenges in enhancing profitability and rejuvenating its coffee segment. Cofer's background in consumer goods equips him with the necessary tools to navigate these complexities. Looking ahead, KDP is set to expand into high-growth categories, including new energy and sports-hydration drinks. This focus on innovation reflects a commitment to meeting the needs of health-conscious consumers while remaining competitive. As the beverage landscape evolves, Cofer's leadership could redefine KDP's market position and set new standards for the industry. Reyes Beverage Group is widening its RNDC acquisition—while dropping Illinois from the deal. 🗺️📦 The distributor will now purchase RNDC’s operations in Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, adding to previously announced markets including Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Four of the added states mark entirely new territory for Reyes, as the company targets closing the transaction as early as the end of May. Illinois, once part of the agreement, is no longer included. To cap off a wild week of beer and alc bev distribution news, Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits is making another major acquisition. It will buy Eagle Rock's Colorado biz, a 13-mil-case nearly statewide AB house that also sells Sazerac and many other brands. Eagle Rock entered CO just 5.5 yrs ago when it acquired AB's branch, and proceeded to invest a lot of money building a new warehouse, revamping an existing one and building out its portfolio. But after AB sent an intensive market evaluation team to CO last Jun, 9 months later, this sale to SGWS is the ultimate result. This is the 2nd AB distrib deal announced for SGWS to buy an AB distrib just this week, following its deal for Long Island, NY-based Clare Rose. Between those two and AB's former NYC branch purchased last fall, Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits will have bought about 22 mil cases from 3 AB distribs in short order. https://lnkd.in/epd8_M5z
