Here’s what I didn’t expect about hardware interviews - they’re somewhat all over the place. For SWE roles at big tech, there are tons of guides, mock interviews, and shared experiences. For hardware roles outside that bubble, no standard process. Every company does it differently. Some want you to walk through your projects for an hour and drill into every design decision. Others throw you a whiteboard problem about debouncing a button or designing drivers from scratch. One company wanted me to walk through a year long project in 5 minutes. Another just wanted to know why I picked one component over another in an old project. The pattern I’ve noticed for most non technical rounds: they care way more about why you made decisions than what you actually built. Can you explain the trade-offs? What broke and how did you fix it? What would you do differently now? Also learned that “here’s how I’d approach the problem” is way better than jumping straight to conclusions. For those who’ve been through this - what surprised you most about hardware interviews? Any advice for someone still in the thick of it? And if you’re job hunting too, feel free to reach out. Always down to compare notes or just talk about process in general. #JobSearch #OpenToWork

My colleague David Crespo and I were recently on the Oxide and Friends podcast, where we talked about some of the ways we've been able to use LLMs like Claude Opus 4.5 to achieve a higher level of rigor and robustness than possible with humans alone. If you're a systems engineer who is despondent at how the dominant narrative is slop and shipping as much code as possible, quality be damned, then please give the episode a listen! LLMs have a lot to offer to detail-oriented infrastructure engineers. YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gAcrpQNb Transistor: https://lnkd.in/gzhsEFuQ

Excited to share what I’ve been working on: Reliant, an IDE for engineers who want more control over how coding agents work. LLMs are great at writing code, but shipping production-ready features still takes a lot of handholding. Things like Claude.md files and reusing prompt patterns (Ralph-Wiggum loops, etc.) help a ton — but they’re annoying to maintain, and the results still aren’t very deterministic. So we built Reliant to fix that. Reliant lets you create custom AI workflows that match how you actually work. Think Cursor meets n8n. You can combine multiple agents, add conditional routing, and have them behave the same way every time. Some benefits: - Define workflows for different development styles (TDD, test-first, refactors, etc.) - Replace prompt files with a drag-and-drop playground - Test and deploy workflows directly from the IDE If you’re already using LLMs to ship features, check it out and let me know what you think!
