Metro’s Office of Sustainability Policy was thrilled to host Coro’s Fellows Program in Public Affairs for Transportation Focus Week — an energizing 1.5 days where emerging leaders from a competitive national pool of post graduates got a front‑row seat to how Metro transportation policy, planning, and innovation come together to move a region. Metro welcomed 12 talented Fellows into a learning arena designed to cultivate cross‑sector perspectives in governance and policy. We focused on core pillars that included policy, infrastructure & planning, and innovation, technology & sustainability — with an added framework of LA28’s mobility goals. Highlights included: - A behind‑the‑scenes tour of Union Station, exploring multimodal connectivity and passenger experience. - A deep dive at Division 13 Zero Emissions Bus Depot to see fleet electrification, charging infrastructure, and operations in action. - A walkthrough of the LAX Metro Transit Center to examine airport mobility, first/last mile challenges, and transit integration. These site visits sparked meaningful dialogue about the practical tradeoffs and opportunities in Los Angeles — from equitable access and funding models to tech solutions that reduce emissions and improve rider experience. Fellows left with a nuanced understanding of regional transportation challenges and the collaborative leadership needed to make durable change. Big thanks to CORO and the Fellows for bringing curiosity, bold questions, and fresh perspectives. Desa Berdaya NTB: Empowering Villages, Building Independence Today, we proudly shared Desa Berdaya NTB — one of the flagship programs of the Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) during our recent press conference. This initiative is designed to strengthen self-reliance from the village level, through two strategic pillars: 🔹 Desa Berdaya Transformatif – targeting 15,858 poor households in 106 extreme poverty villages through the Graduation Approach (social protection, livelihood, empowerment, and financial inclusion). 🔸 Desa Berdaya Tematik – empowering 336 absolute poverty villages and 724 others by developing local potential and increasing the Village Independence Index (IDM). Resetting the Nation Starts with Strengthening the Public Service The public service is more than a delivery mechanism — it is the foundation of stable, effective governance. Yet across ministries, agencies, SOEs, and local government, technical capacity is under strain. Increased partisanship, weakened oversight, and diminished institutional memory are eroding the professionalism needed to deliver on national development goals. This is not a problem of individuals — it’s systemic. To build a public service that can meet today’s challenges, we must: • Reinforce merit-based recruitment and promotion • Invest in ongoing skills development and leadership pipelines • Modernize governance frameworks and performance systems • Reaffirm the independence and constitutional role of the Public Services Commission A technically competent, ethical, and non-partisan public service is essential for long-term progress. Strengthening it is not just a reform priority — it’s a national imperative. Somalia and the IMF have successfully reached a staff-level agreement on the fourth review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program.
