Francisco L. Scannone liked thisFrancisco L. Scannone liked thisIt's time to tell the story behind our name. Marlo is named after my mom, Janet Marlowe Nix. For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to start my own company. I also knew that, if I ever did, I wanted it to stand for something bigger than just business. When Gabriel Cebrian 👨🏻💻 and I first started talking about the idea that would eventually become MarloAI, we kept coming back to one theme: memory for marketing. We wanted to give marketing teams a living memory of their brand, so knowledge compounds over time and shapes every future decision, message, and experience. Once we realized that memory was at the heart of what we were creating, the name felt obvious. Six years ago, my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She developed it in her early sixties, which unfortunately is not uncommon in our family. My mom has three siblings, and of the four of them, three are living with this terrible disease. I'm incredibly lucky to still have my mom in my life. In fact, she still pops up on LinkedIn sometimes, which always makes me laugh. But the looming threat of Alzheimer's hangs over her and our family every day. It's one of those diseases that progresses slowly, taking everyone it touches on an emotional rollercoaster of hope, heartbreak, grief, and gratitude. And despite all the advances in medicine, there is still no cure. What makes it especially hard is knowing who my mom has always been. She has been a ray of sunshine in my life and in the lives of everyone around her. Growing up, she wasn't just my mom. She was "Mama Nix" to all of my friends. She had an incredible gift for making people feel like family. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. That's also why we're committed to making Marlo part of something bigger. Gabe and I have pledged to donate a portion of our revenue every year to organizations supporting Alzheimer's research and education. If I ever need motivation to keep building, it's knowing that every step forward helps push that research a little closer to a cure. That's a legacy that would make my mom proud. Our first step is happening on Saturday, October 3, when my family will participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Raleigh at Halifax Mall. We've created a team in honor of my mom and her siblings, Team Nix / Dawson / Cartwright. Marlo will match every dollar donated to the team, up to $2,500. That means your $50 donation becomes $100, with every dollar going directly to the Alzheimer's Association. You can support the team here: https://lnkd.in/emrv9uvP 🔗 I've shared this story with many people over the years, and I'll end with the same message I always do: share your stories and look out for the people around you. Chances are someone you know is carrying a burden you can't see. And if Alzheimers has touched your family too, please reach out. I'd love to hear your story. You're not alone.

Francisco L. Scannone liked thisFrancisco L. Scannone liked thisI’ve had a few meaningful transitions in my career. I stand at another crossroad this week as I wrap up a chapter at The Wendy's Company. Reflecting on the three years, I am grateful for the countless opportunities to create business value, to create platforms for our teams to thrive and to be an authentic leader. I learnt to hone my art of possible, navigate complex stakeholder maps and stay persuadable as data showed up. Personally too, there was so much that was different. This job was my first corporate one as a parent and that just changed the game on intentionality with my time, priorities and most importantly, empathy. I got to experience the joys of building teams with a spectrum of strengths and opportunities. I’ll miss the energy of the Wendy’s kind of people - always proud of Dave’s vision and values and tireless to uphold that! We have a truly special set of people, across the franchise community as well as the support center, who care - and the brand is lucky to have these guardians. And to all those who helped me make this chapter so meaningful - you know who you are ♥️ Until we cross paths again!

Francisco L. Scannone liked thisFrancisco L. Scannone liked thisA few weeks ago I wrapped up 13.5 years at RBI. That's a long time anywhere, and I'm grateful for every bit of it. To the people I worked for, the people I worked alongside, and the people who worked for me: thank you. I learned something from all of you, and a lot of what I'm about to do started in those conversations. As of today, my business partner Samantha Trapasso and I are officially Burger King franchisees in the Greensboro Triad and surrounding North Carolina markets under our new company, BASE Hospitality LLC. Getting here took a lot of help. The team at Burger King corporate guided us through every step of the deal, answered more questions than I can count, and made a complicated process feel doable. The same goes for our attorneys, accountants, lender and everyone else who put in time on our behalf, plus the friends and family who cheered us on along the way. We didn't get here on our own, and we won't forget it. A few years ago I got to be part of the team working on the Reclaim the Flame plan. Back then it was a plan on paper. Now I get to help bring it to life from the other side of the counter, in our restaurants, with our teams, for our guests. That's a pretty cool full-circle moment. Most of all, Sam and I are excited to get to work with our new team. The people in these restaurants are the ones who make it all happen every day, and we're looking forward to getting to know them, supporting them, and building something great together. There's a lot of work ahead, and we're ready to get after it. If you're in the Greensboro area, come see us.

Francisco L. Scannone liked thisFrancisco L. Scannone liked thisCatching up with the GOAT Elisabeth Eljuri. We met yesterday and it made me reflect on my time at Norton Rose Fulbright. I’m so grateful for Elisabeth, she shaped my early career. She was incredibly clear in her guidance when giving you an assignment, always inclusive, and taught me the value of taking ownership and dealing with tight deadlines. Thank you for being such a powerful role model back then, and I’m truly glad we’ve stayed in touch all these years! And yes, we’re aging backwards🤪

Francisco L. Scannone liked thisFrancisco L. Scannone liked thisThere's a new No. 2 in town. Wendy's system sales in the second quarter declined 8.2%, thanks to closures and a 7% decrease in same-store sales. Burger King, whose system sales increased 8.2% in the second quarter, is back to its position as the country's second-largest fast-food burger chain, based on system sales. Wendy's was $2.9B. BK was $3.2B. That's rather insane, and shows how fleeting success in this business really is. Wendy's was thriving for a while, and added breakfast, but its sales have really slowed over the past two years. It has been closing locations. And today the company reduced its dividend and suspended its earnings guidance to invest back in the business. Burger King, which just a few years ago was closing large numbers of stores and watching big operators file for bankruptcy, has steadied its ship and accelerated growth. Its same-store sales last quarter outpaced McDonald's by 770bp and Wendy's by 1,550bp. Just an insane reversal of fortune.

I am pleased to have co-authored the Dominican Republic chapter of the M&A Outlook for the Americas 2026 published by Latin Counsel, together with my colleague and Senior Counsel, Lourdes Medina. It was a privilege to contribute to this regional publication alongside leading firms across the Americas and to share our perspective on the Dominican market. Thank you to Latin Counsel for the invitation and to all contributors for an excellent comparative effort.
