Monday I arrived at the NSC headquarters in Itasca, IL, focused on an exciting new safety solutions initiative. I'm heading back to Michigan✋ with something else, too: my First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
While I can't share much about the initiative just yet, I can share how valuable it was to spend an extra day away from home refreshing life-saving skills that I hadn't formally practiced since I was 12 and preparing to be a superstar babysitter. Anyone else? Needless to say, a refresher was long overdue.
After completing the newly updated NSC Workplace First Aid, CPR and AED eLearning course, I joined several coworkers for a hands-on skills assessment led by one of our incredible local instructors, Don. The course featured realistic workplace scenarios, practical decision-making, and training designed to build confidence under pressure.
As I'm sure you know, most emergencies don't come with a warning! It's easy to panic in the moment, but I'd rather have the knowledge and confidence to take action than stand by and wonder what to do. When in doubt, call 911. Even better, get certified.
If certification isn't on your to-do list right now, I highly recommend downloading the FREE NSC First Aid app. Heck, even if you're certified, you should still download the app! Having quick access to trusted first aid guidance (including situations as specific as jellyfish stings! 🪼⚡Yikes!) can make all the difference when every second counts. I'll drop the link in the comments below.
Whether it's in the workplace, in your community, or, in my case, while navigating the daily adventures of raising 3 kids 🩷💙💙, you never know when these skills may be needed.
I'm grateful to be part of an organization committed to helping people stay safe, prevent injuries, and save lives. Safety is something we can all relate to, and it's a skill worth investing in.
Oh, and if you're still reading and curious about the safety solutions initiative I mentioned, make sure you're following the
