The health of any community is directly related to healthy children and their families. SVYSA has provided the soccer experience for children for over 25 years. During my years on the Board of Directors, the organization grew to become streamlined and inclusive of the whole community, reaching out to all cultures, including a scholarship program which enabled families to become part of the organization as volunteers. Registrations increased to 1,200 children, ages 4-18, in a small town population of only 9,000. Annual budget of approx. 200K. As a member of the Finance and leader of the Outreach, Communications, and Scholarship committees, I oversaw all aspects of the league, from supply purchases to Opening Day coordination and year-round operations. This ongoing local event has raised millions of dollars over the course of it's growing popularity in the Napa Valley, benefitting local AIDS/HIV organizations who reach out to the community with financial and other means of support. In 2013, this organization marks 25 years of annual fundraising events, centered around the live telecast of the Academy Awards (aka Oscars), throwing parties which started in the home of two friends, and grew to thousands of attendees at area venues large enough… Show more

This ongoing local event has raised millions of dollars over the course of it's growing popularity in the Napa Valley, benefitting local AIDS/HIV organizations who reach out to the community with financial and other means of support. In 2013, this organization marks 25 years of annual fundraising events, centered around the live telecast of the Academy Awards (aka Oscars), throwing parties which started in the home of two friends, and grew to thousands of attendees at area venues large enough to accommodate them. I wore many hats, including procurement of goods and services for live and silent auctions, as well as wine and food pairings from local purveyors. I created, led, and implemented organizational systems to track and report on results each year. I recruited and trained and oversaw hundreds of volunteers, and then passed the gauntlet to one of them when I left the area. This was truly a labor of love. Show less

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxNapaValley, where x = independently organized TED event.
