Matthew Gutermuth shared thisToday is a deeply personal one for myself and my entire family. 25 years ago my sister’s fiancée, Chris Dincuff, went to work in Tower 1 of The World Trade Center and never made it home. It was a perfect September morning, the wedding plans were coming together, and Chris and Angie were planning a wonderful life together. This day forever changed my sister’s life and impacted every member of our family. Chris was an avid sports fan and he LOVED Villanova basketball! My sister created a scholarship in Chris’ honor, and with the help of Jay Wright, his legacy carries on 25 years later. From today through the end of the month, Villanova will match every dollar that we raise up to $25,000. If you are able, I would very much appreciate your consideration. Each dollar raised helps us to keep Chris’s legacy alive. THANK YOU! Please keep my sister Angie in your prayers today. She has rebuilt a very different life than the one she dreamed of with Chris, and her grace in doing so has inspired and impacted many! #NeverForget https://lnkd.in/e6ZKBm8F

Matthew Gutermuth shared thisA great message of hope as opposed to fear,as business leaders try to navigate the Ai noise…it remains true today that in the end “it is all about your athletes”!Matthew Gutermuth shared thisLast week, a friend of mine, Dave Sparkman, released a book about transformation and culture at UnitedHealth Group. Reading it brought back memories from a very different era of transformation—one I was fortunate to help lead in the late 1990s. At the time, the healthcare industry was racing to modernize. Large insurers were spending hundreds of millions of dollars replacing core systems, consolidating platforms, and pursuing massive implementation projects. The promise sounded remarkably similar to what we hear about AI today: new technology would increase efficiency, reduce costs, and fundamentally change how work was done. Not everyone succeeded. Oxford Health Plans suffered a highly publicized systems failure that disrupted operations and damaged investor confidence. Prudential Health invested heavily in transformation efforts but ultimately exited the health insurance business altogether. Aetna struggled under the weight of multiple acquisitions. Across the industry, many organizations struggled to implement common systems because they had never first established a common way of doing the work. Inside UnitedHealth Group, we pursued a different approach. Rather than starting with technology, we started with a question: Where in the organization was the work already being done best? Our objective was to identify those best practices, validate that they produced superior results, and make them the standard across the enterprise. Technology's role was not to create the process. Its role was to scale and sustain practices that had already proven successful. My role was to lead the value realization effort behind the transformation, ensuring that operational changes delivered the financial benefits they promised. That gave me a unique vantage point. I wasn't hearing anecdotes about improvement; I was evaluating whether those improvements were showing up in the numbers. As standardized practices were implemented across the enterprise, administrative costs declined significantly. The benefits were measurable, sustained, and ultimately reflected in shareholder value. What I learned from that experience has stayed with me for almost three decades. That is why today's AI conversation feels so familiar. AI is unquestionably a powerful technology. But the organizations that create the greatest value will not necessarily be the ones that deploy the most AI. They will be the ones that can identify the best practices already operating within their business, make those practices the standard, and then use technology to scale them across the enterprise. Another friend, Jeff Gorman, together with Shweta Bhatia, recently made a similar point in their article, "Automation Is Not the Moat. Your People Are." The real competitive advantage has never been the technology itself. It comes from identifying the practices that create value and then using technology to scale them across the enterprise. The tools change. The lessons don't.

Matthew Gutermuth reposted thisMatthew Gutermuth reposted thisTalent. Many talk strategy. The Funnel Positioning. Narrative. But let’s be clear—none of it matters without the right talent. Talent is the multiplier. The difference-maker. The edge. When you find it— value it, develop it, and do everything you can to keep it. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside someone who embodies this at the highest level: Keith King A true executive leader. Proven dealmaker. Relentless operator. Exceptional President and better person. More importantly—someone who elevates everything and everyone around him. If you’re building, scaling, or transforming a business… you want Keith King in the room. PE, hospitality, enterprise—doesn’t matter. He’s the kind of leader who changes outcomes. I don’t say this lightly—much of my own success is tied to his impact. If you get the opportunity to work with him—take it. Make the call. Get Keith King on board. Onwards, Des

Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisMatthew Gutermuth reacted on thisThere are minds capable of building empires that spend their entire lives simply trying to survive. Remember that before you mistake wealth for wisdom or someone else’s struggle for a lack of capability. If success has found you, let it give you gratitude before it gives you a sense of superiority. You may have worked hard to walk through the door, but the opportunity to reach it was itself a gift. The wisest use of an open door is to hold it for someone else. Make it a great day!

Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisMatthew Gutermuth reacted on thisThe Armstead Academic Project was proud to bring another Stay Hungry Career Camp to Jacksonville in partnership with NLP Logix and KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools. The day gave students an opportunity to step inside the workplace, connect directly with professionals across AI, technology, and business, and learn about the many educational and career pathways available to them. Students participated in employee-led career discussions, explored NLP Logix’s areas of expertise, and heard from NLP Logix Co-Founder and CEO Ted Willich and AAP Co-Founder Arik Armstead as they shared their personal career journeys, lessons in leadership and perseverance, and advice for preparing for life beyond the classroom. Following the Career Camp, 96% of students said they learned about careers they didn’t previously know existed. Thank you to NLP Logix and KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools for opening doors, sharing your experiences, and helping Jacksonville students see more possibilities for their futures.

Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisMatthew Gutermuth reacted on thisSometimes all it takes is one experience, one conversation, or one person believing in you to change the way you see your future. Hosting another Armstead Academic Project Stay Hungry Career Camp in Jacksonville was a reminder of that. This time, we partnered with NLP Logix and KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools to give students the opportunity to step inside a professional workplace, explore careers in technology and business, and connect directly with people working across those industries. I also had the chance to sit down with NLP Logix Co-Founder & CEO Ted Willich to talk with students about our career journeys, leadership, perseverance, and some of the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Jacksonville has become an important community to me, and having the privilege of playing here makes it even more meaningful to invest in the young people who call this city home. One of the biggest reasons we created these Career Camps through the Armstead Academic Project is to expose students to opportunities they may not have known existed and help them see what’s possible for their own futures. Already pumped for the next one!

Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisThis is what makes our Stay Hungry Career Camps so special! When a company opens its doors, students get to see careers and workplaces they may have never been exposed to before. But what really makes the experience is the employees who take the time to share their own paths, answer questions, and talk honestly about how they got where they are. So grateful to the NLP Logix team for giving students that opportunity. If your company would like to open its doors for a future Stay Hungry Career Camp, I’d love to connect.Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisThere’s no single path to a career in tech — and sometimes the best way to discover yours is to meet the people already doing it. 💡 Our team was proud to partner with the Armstead Academic Project to host a Stay Hungry Career Camp for more than 25 students from KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools Students spent time with members of the NLP Logix team representing AI Strategy, Business & Systems Analysis, and Delivery Excellence, getting an inside look at what careers in technology can actually look like and the different skills, experiences, and perspectives that make them possible. We had such a great time answering questions, sharing our experiences, and hopefully giving these students a few new ideas about where their own futures could take them. 🙌 Jacksonville is our home, and supporting the community around us is deeply important to NLP Logix. Opportunities like this allow us to invest in the next generation, make careers in technology feel more accessible, and connect students with people working in the field today. A huge thank you to Arik Armstead and the Armstead Academic Project for the work they’re doing to create opportunities for young people, and to KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools for allowing us to spend time with such a curious group of students. And to the students who joined us: keep asking questions, stay curious, and stay hungry. The tech world needs what your generation will bring to it. 🚀 #Jacksonville #TechCareers #STEMEducation #CommunityImpact #CareerDevelopment #DataScienceIsATeamSport

Matthew Gutermuth reacted on thisMatthew Gutermuth reacted on thisLive Well. Do Good. We only get one trip on earth. And sometimes, in the middle of the daily grind, we forget just how powerful that fact is. We don’t get another yesterday. We’re living a live show. No rewind. No pause. No fast-forward. Just today. And then tomorrow- if we are lucky. So maybe we should stop every once in a while and ask ourselves: What really matters? Is getting frustrated over the little things going to make our lives better? Probably not. Is being intentionally disagreeable going to make the world around us better? I’d say no. For me, a full life comes down to four simple words: Live Well. Do Good. Build your business. Pursue excellence. Create opportunity. Take care of yourself and the people around you. Live well. And then use what you build — your time, resources, relationships and influence — to make a difference. Do good. That’s the thinking behind something we’re incredibly excited about at Potandon Produce L.L.C. | Green Giant Fresh Potatoes & Onions and Rä Foods LLC. We’re launching our Sprout Cares program with Read Ahead, an organization dedicated to providing educational services and support to children in the New York City area. We’ve committed to an initial one-year partnership, but our hope is that this becomes something much bigger and longer lasting. Because doing good shouldn’t be a one-time event. It should be part of how we live and how we lead. I’d encourage everyone in my network to check out Read Ahead. If it aligns with your values and you’re in a position to help, consider making them part of your giving. If we all do a little, we can accomplish a lot. My hope for all of us is simple: Live well. Do good. Make the most of the one life we get. Live the Wild Giant Life. Onwards! Another entry into the #nonalcoholicbeer category launched by the guys that brought us Casamigos Tequila. It's a definite sign of the times as low and no booze alcohol alternatives continue to grow. Just seven years ago, non-alcoholic beer accounted for .3% of total American beer sales, but that number has jumped to upwards of 5% of total beer sales as reported by San Diego Beer News last month. The premium cigar landscape is evolving, and cigar lounges across the country are feeling the impact. Once dominated by legacy brands and large distributors, the market is now being reshaped by boutique cigar companies that bring authenticity, exclusivity, and stronger profit potential to retail partners. For lounge owners focused on growth and retention, boutique cigars are no longer optional. They are essential. Today’s cigar consumer is more informed and adventurous than ever. Aficionados seek unique blends, compelling brand stories, and limited production cigars that offer an experience beyond the ordinary. Boutique brands meet this demand through small batch craftsmanship, innovative flavor profiles, and a sense of discovery that keeps customers engaged. Unlike mass produced cigars, boutique offerings create conversation. Customers ask for them by name, return to purchase again, and bring friends to try them. This behavior increases foot traffic and repeat visits, the lifeblood of a successful lounge. Higher Margins and Faster Turnover Boutique cigars often provide stronger margins than large corporate brands. Without heavy marketing overhead, boutique companies can offer competitive wholesale pricing while maintaining premium retail value. This creates a powerful revenue dynamic. Lounges earn more per stick while benefiting from faster turnover. When customers perceive a cigar as exclusive or hard to find, they are more likely to purchase immediately, improving sales velocity and humidor performance. The Power of Brand Story One of the greatest advantages boutique brands bring to lounges is story driven marketing. Customers do not just buy cigars. They buy into the narrative behind them. Drunk Chicken Cigars exemplifies this advantage. As a woman owned boutique brand founded by Desiree Sylver, the company stands out in a traditionally male dominated industry. Its bold identity, memorable name, and commitment to quality create a strong emotional connection with consumers. Lounge owners benefit from this built in conversation starter, encouraging engagement and loyalty. Demand That Starts Before the Lounge Boutique brands like Drunk Chicken Cigars generate consumer demand before customers enter the lounge. Through social media, influencer partnerships, and owner led messaging, the brand encourages smokers to request Drunk Chicken Cigars at their local lounges. The lounges that thrive today are those that embrace change. Boutique cigars represent a shift toward experiential retail, higher margins, and customer driven demand. By partnering with brands like Drunk Chicken Cigars, lounge owners gain access to products customers seek, stories that spark engagement, and revenue opportunities that extend beyond the humidor. In a competitive market, differentiation is everything. Boutique cigars deliver that differentiation and are proving to be the key to sustained growth and profitability.

Searching for growth? General Mills has announced plans to boldly go after the over 55s in their quest to increase volumes. While much of CPG chases 18-45s or the latest wellness fad, General Mills is placing its bets on three under-the-radar, high-leverage consumer groups: - Adults aged 55 +, who account for nearly half of U.S. households and have enormous spending power. - Consumers using GLP-1 medications (up to 12%+ of U.S. adults), who’re eating less but seeking more protein, more functional nutrients, smaller portions. - Hispanic shoppers, where General Mills plans to ramp up innovation and engagement by ~40% in FY26. This move takes product renovation in new directions - redesigning products and formats to match how people now live, eat and feel. They’re innovating for smaller households (smaller pack sizes), higher-protein need states, functional nutrition and not just indulgence. And this isn’t an isolated move. It’s part of a broader CPG reboot as the absence of growth looms.
