In my earlier post this morning, the center of gravity was the vision for the future of law - and the obstacles that stand in its way. This excellent piece by Ben Chiriboga focuses on how the vision becomes reality (bearing in mind many of the concerns outlined by Quentin Solt). The economist in me - buried under the multi-decade layers of my legal experience, but persistently refusing to fade to black - immediately points out that the payoff structure in the legal market is several orders of magnitude more complex than Ben’s framework allows for (long-term and short-term economic, reputational, and even emotional considerations would need to be factored in), but - directionally - I could not agree more with the analysis. P.S. apologies to my network (and especially your loved ones!) for bringing not one but two long-reads to your attention on a holiday weekend, but if you are a legal tech aficionado, you can’t help spending some of your “heart emojis” on these kinds of texts. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Bounce Imaging: "Keeping Them Safe" Lauren Baynes, Chief Growth Officer Bounce Imaging, sits down with Brown and White Ventures Fund I co-founder and Brown and White Ventures podcast host Jim Aroune to share how her company explores the intersection of defense technology, public safety, and operational scale. Bounce Imaging is transforming how law enforcement and military personnel gather intelligence in high-stakes environments through their innovative throwable tactical cameras.  Lauren shares the journey of scaling a venture-backed hardware company, discussing the critical transition from a 43North win to expanding production capacity. Highlighting the conversation is the "Pit Viper 360," a system TIME recognized for its ability to provide 360° visual and thermal sensing. Lauren explains how this technology—specifically the integration of 4G two-way audio and immersive video—is fundamentally changing the dynamics of hostage negotiations and tactical entries by removing the operator from the line of fire while maintaining total situational awareness. "If I think about the long-term vision for Bounce, it would be that every soldier, every police officer, every patrol cop has access to something to keep them safe so that they’re not putting their body in harm when entering a confined space," Baynes said. From being named one of #Buffalo’s "40 Under 40" to leading growth strategy, Lauren Baynes provides a candid look at the challenges of delivering mission-critical hardware to warfighters and first responders. The conversation concludes with a look at the future of deployable sensing systems and how Bounce Imaging continues to push the boundaries of tactical imaging to save lives and increase operational efficiency on the front lines. Watch the Brown and White Ventures podcast on the fund's youtube channel and look for it at the fund's website. #defensetech, #publicsafety #immersivevideo #VC #invest #venturecapital

Most family office principals don’t set out to become the operators of a complex institutional structure. Yet that's often what the role demands. Staffing, governance, vendor oversight, cost management—it compounds quickly. Understanding how to balance what stays in-house with what gets outsourced is foundational work, not a detail to revisit later. This article offers a look at how experienced principals are approaching that question: https://lnkd.in/eXjqWrRe

I'm looking forward to my chat with Stefanos Poulis at GAI World in Boston at the end of the month. Any startup that wants to reach real enterprise adoption needs to get serious about explainability and AI trust. We are seeing more evidence every day that explainability needs to be at the core of any critical AI workflow. Whether its due to increasingly capable and complex frontier agents or wider agentic access to sensitive data and systems, we can't build the future with black box AI.

Most deals don't fail at the table. They fail in the data room. If you're running M&A due diligence or a fundraising round, the platform at https://vdr.ai was built specifically for the pressure those processes create. Investors and acquirers move fast. They request hundreds of documents. They need instant access, version control, and a clear audit trail showing who viewed what and when. A generic file-sharing tool doesn't cut it when the stakes are this high. VDR.ai uses AI to organize and index documents automatically, so your team spends less time filing and more time closing. Deals that used to take weeks of back-and-forth can move in days. Security is where most platforms cut corners. The https://lnkd.in/gcVYs6ne page lays out exactly how VDR.ai protects sensitive documents, covering enterprise-grade encryption, granular access controls, and permission settings that let you decide precisely who sees what and for how long. That level of transparency matters when you're sharing cap tables, financial models, or IP documentation with outside parties. Some context on why this is worth paying attention to: global M&A volume exceeded $3 trillion in 2023, and the majority of those deals involved a virtual data room at some stage. The quality of that room shapes how buyers perceive your organization. A disorganized data room signals a disorganized business. If you've been through a deal process recently, what was the biggest friction point in managing documents and access for your counterparty? #MergersAndAcquisitions #DueDiligence #VirtualDataRoom #DealManagement #DocumentSecurity #MAtech

Procode is at the forefront of pairing AI with services businesses to transform legacy industries. We're incredibly excited to back Jeff Cripe, Kameron Rezzadeh, James Baez-Silva, and the whole Procode AI team. The speed with which Procode has entered the market, transformed the margin of the underlying operating company, AND created a better customer-facing product is special. As the son of a surgeon, I am grateful to the Procode team for creating a product that finally gives doctors visibility into how they're paid. Looking forward to a great journey together.
