Rajiv Prabhakar reacted on thisRajiv Prabhakar reacted on thisToday at Handshake AI Research, we help establish that AI is as good as expert human tutors for immediate GRE learning gains (p=.015, 2,383 students). This work is the culmination of thousands of hours spent by of researchers, operators, and student fellows. One hour with an expert GRE tutor: $75. One equivalent hour with an AI tutor: about 7 cents. 918x cheaper, equivalent learning (p=.044). In 5 of 7 GRE topics, the top AI tutor beat the expert human tutors on average. Does this mean AI should replace teachers? Strongly no. The emotional and retention benefits of learning with teachers and peers cannot be overstated. And our study has several limitations: we focus on immediate learning gains and do not measure effects over the long-term. We also only measure one-time improvement (perhaps the third time around, AI isn't as helpful, we don't know yet). Getting into a good college changed my life. Rajiv Prabhakar reacted on thisRajiv Prabhakar reacted on thisWe audited thousands of agent rollouts in DeepSWE-1.1. Over 80% contained reasoning about an imagined grader. Yet no grader/verifier is mentioned in prompts nor accessible to the agents. Agents reasoned things like: "Let me look at the problem from the grader's perspective" and referred to "hidden tests", "test authors", and "the checker". We found this behavior across all six frontier models we analyzed, including recent models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Z.ai, and Kimi. In 10–25% of cases, such reasoning pulled the agent's work away from the user's original specification (yet it often still earned full reward on the DeepSWE task). We call this speculative reward hacking where the agent's reasoning focuses on imagining a grader rather than what the user wants. Better evaluations that penalize such reward hacking, and better model training that does not give rise to this grader obsession -- so that models focus instead on accomplishing what users actually want.

Rajiv Prabhakar liked thisRajiv Prabhakar liked thisThere is a recruiting secret among YC founders called the “high-agency email" It is probably the fastest way to get hired by a startup, yet most people never even consider doing it. Every now and then, an email lands in your inbox from someone who wants to join your company. They didn't apply through the official job posting. Instead, they identified a problem that matters to you, tried to solve it, recorded a demo, and sent it over. Nobody asked them to do it. That is just how high-agency people apply for jobs. I have hired almost every single person who has done this, and I have talked to enough YC founders now to know I am not alone. A few weeks ago, we were hiring for our marketing team. One candidate sent us a Notion doc outlining gaps in our strategy and built a demo over the weekend using the Crustdata (YC F24) API. He is now part of our team. If you are applying somewhere right now, this is what I would do: 1) Figure out what the company is trying to do 2) Find one thing you would fix or improve 3) Build something that tries to solve that problem 4) Send it directly to the founders (not the hiring managers) I have a soft spot for hiring high-agency people, and so do most of the founders I speak with. I can almost guarantee that if you do this, you will have a better chance of getting the job than almost anyone else applying.

Rajiv Prabhakar liked thisRajiv Prabhakar liked thisAlmost every YC founder I’m speaking with is trying to hire the person who can do this with AI: - Map out the entire ICP and TAM - Set up the mail infra - Build signal-based lists - Enrich accounts and contacts - Run outbound and auto route qualified leads to reps - Build the inbound system end to end: enrichment, scoring, meeting prep - Analyze sales calls and create feedback loops for all reps - Own the CRM architecture and reporting In many startups, this is no longer split across SDRs, RevOps, and growth. It is owned by only one person. Many are calling this role the “GTM Engineer”. And it is becoming one of the highest-paid roles in tech right now. You need to: 1) Understand the full sales cycle from prospecting to close 2) Be technical, or at least highly technical in how you think (goes far beyond building Clay tables) 3) Use AI efficiently enough to operate what used to require an entire team If you are this person - reach out. After my last post , many people are messaging me about the Intuit interview process for the role Software developer backend , I thought I’d share what I can. I can’t disclose exact questions, but here’s a clear overview of my experience. 🔹 Coding Challenge (OA) Mostly medium-level problem solving. Structure: • 1 DSA question • 1 SQL question • 1 Bash scripting task After completing the coding challenge, the next round was available for scheduling on the portal within a few hours. For me it was 1 hr. 🔹 1:1 Recruiter Round Biggest advice: Know your resume inside out. Also, be clear about how you use AI in your daily workflow. Some discussion areas were: • What makes you passionate about technology? • A time when you had to learn quickly • Your top strengths • Solving problems in unconventional ways • Defining success in your career • Projects where you used AI • How you use AI coding assistants effectively • Staying updated with latest technologies • Joining availability & work authorization It was more conversational than stressful. Within 1–2 days, the next stage (Build Challenge) was available to schedule. For me , it took a day. 🔹 Build Challenge You’re given a Git repository and asked to complete a small project within a limited time. It typically involves: • Backend logic • API calls • Small functional implementation • Clean structure and submission via Git After submission, the next round is scheduled. 🔹 1:1 Technical Round This round focuses heavily on: • Your submitted project • Edge cases • Unit testing • Design decisions • Live coding (sometimes) • Resume-based technical discussion 🔹 Final Interview The final round includes: • Resume-based discussion • DSA • System design • Overall experience discussion Sometimes this round is virtual, sometimes in person and it depends on the interviewer. This all rounds are taken by Uptime Crew but the final round will be taken by intuit team. There are roles for both USA and India, and the overall process is quite similar. Overall, the process felt structured, practical, and well-designed. Since many are searching for this ,there was a small Telegram discussion group where candidates can connect and discuss the process and there were more than 400 people in the group so it will be helpful : " https://t.me/intuitdiscuss " Also, there are multiple discussion threads on Reddit, Inc. where candidates have shared their experiences. It’s worth exploring those to understand different perspectives and preparation strategies.
