US retail giant Target has appointed Michael Fiddelke, the company’s chief operating officer, as its next CEO, effective February 1, 2026. Fiddelke, a 20-year company veteran, will succeed Brian Cornell, marking a return to the retailer’s tradition of promoting from within. The leadership change comes amid declining sales, share price stagnation, and growing competition from Amazon and Walmart. Fiddelke emphasized accelerating growth, enhancing product quality, and embedding more technology in operations. Shares fell over 6% following the announcement, with analysts noting mixed investor reactions to an internal appointment. #leadership #target #Markedium

Yeah, it's pretty sad news for luxury retail fans like me myself. Saks Global (the parent company behind Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman) just announced it's closing nine full-line stores as part of its ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. Saks CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck framed it as a necessary step to cut unprofitable locations, focus on the strongest/most profitable spots, invest in better product assortments, personalization, and a stronger multi-channel (online + in-store) luxury experience. But yeah, seeing an iconic brand like Saks shrink its physical footprint like this feels like another sign of how tough the luxury department store sector has become—high debt from acquisitions (like Neiman Marcus), shifting shopping habits, and economic pressures all piling up. The famous flagship on Fifth Avenue in NYC isn't affected, and they'll keep the core Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman locations running. Still, it's a bummer for the cities and malls losing these stores. AI may play important role. Talk more.

🔍 This is a must-read for anyone who cares about the future of physical retail—especially independents. Peter, you articulate something many retailers are feeling but struggle to name: retail isn’t disappearing, but the middle is. Relevance today isn’t inherited, it’s earned through clarity, discipline, and intentional execution. 📊 From working closely with independent jewelers and analyzing aggregated sell-through data, the “middle lane” you describe is very real and increasingly unforgiving. Confused positioning quietly erodes margin, trust, and longevity. 🧠 Your focus on the human, sensory, and psychological advantages of physical retail is exactly right. Those advantages still exist but only for retailers willing to choose a lane and execute with conviction. ⚠️ The uncomfortable question every retailer should be asking isn’t “Will physical retail survive?” but “Have we earned our place in it?” 👏 Thank you for continuing to elevate the conversation in our industry. #PhysicalRetail #RetailStrategy #JewelryIndustry #IndependentRetail #RetailLeadership #CustomerExperience #FutureOfRetail

# Macy's Defies Retail Headwinds: Same-Store Sales Growth Propels Share Price The retail landscape continues to present challenges, yet Macy's latest quarterly report has sparked significant investor interest with shares jumping on unexpected comparable sales growth. This 1.9% increase in same-store sales offers compelling evidence of Macy's operational resilience and strategic effectiveness. Despite closing 64 underperforming locations and experiencing a 2.5% year-on-year sales decline, Macy's "GoForward" businesses delivered an impressive 2.2% rise in comparable sales. This strategic pruning of the store portfolio demonstrates a disciplined approach to capital allocation that's already yielding results. The luxury segments remain particularly strong performers, with both Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury continuing their positive comparable sales trajectory. These premium operations have become increasingly vital to the group's overall performance during this transition period. Macy's "Bold New Chapter" plan appears to be gaining meaningful traction. The Reimagine 125 stores programme shows particular promise, recording 1.4% growth on an owned-plus-licensed basis. This targeted approach to store investment prioritises quality over quantity, focusing resources where they generate the strongest returns. Management's decision to raise full-year sales and margin guidance reflects growing confidence in their strategic direction, despite acknowledging potential tariff-related headwinds that could impact future earnings per share. For investors, this performance suggests Macy's turnaround is gathering momentum. The combination of improving comparable sales, disciplined cost management, and strength in luxury segments presents a compelling case for earnings durability. What strategic retail transformations have you observed that successfully balance footprint reduction with improved performance in remaining locations? #RetailStrategy #ComparableSales #RetailTransformation #LuxuryRetail #BusinessPerformance

This is Big! Anthropologie’s Q3 results aren’t just a strong quarter. They’re a masterclass in what happens when a brand refuses to age, fade, or get lazy. 19 (yes you read that right almost 5 years) consecutive quarters of positive comps is the retail equivalent of running a marathon in heels and never losing pace. What stands out most is that this performance isn’t fueled by discount theatrics or chasing trends with whiplash speed. It’s the power of brand stewardship. Owning your aesthetic. Knowing your customer. And refreshing your assortment with intention instead of panic. Anthropologie's brands have always sold more than product. It sells a feeling. A mood board. A lifestyle. And that emotional currency is paying dividends. The cross channel strength is the loudest signal. Digital and stores moving in lockstep. Apparel, accessories, weddings, and now a home category picking up speed. That kind of balanced growth doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from a tight read on the customer and an even tighter grip on execution. Brand equity is strongest when it’s expressed with clarity. It’s a bet on focus. And early numbers say the bet is paying off. Same story with store expansion. While everyone else is debating the future of physical retail, Anthropologie is simply building it. What URBN is showing the industry is this. Growth doesn’t come from being everywhere....growth comes from being unforgettable where it matters. It comes from creative content that actually inspires. From experiences that feel inviting instead of overwhelming. From assortments that evolve without losing their soul. Anthropologie’s momentum says something bigger about the state of retail heading into 2026. Intelligence plus identity wins. Vision plus execution wins. Customer understanding plus creative bravery wins. This is what we deliver Zeta Global. From identity to intelligence to precise, scalable execution. And right now, Anthropologie is playing that game better than most.
