Worked on a Claude skill so that one could ask "set up Bref" in any PHP project. It _looked_ awesome: Claude would analyze the project, ask questions, etc. But it's a fail. As usual, Claude just invents options, doesn't follow the script reliably, uses its outdated knowledge... I don't think this experiment means that AI can't help at all, but I need to find another place or format. For onboarding new projects, I'll double down on improving the existing way.

Have you advice clients "You SHOULDN'T use Magento"? The real question is When should you recommend AGAINST it? Not every business is built for Magento, and Magento isn't built for every business. I've learned that matching the right platform to the right business is more important than winning any single project. And sometimes, saying “Magento isn’t for you” is the most honest and strategic thing you can do For the client, and for your long-term reputation. Most people think CAM programming is about knowing the software buttons. But here’s the truth: the small tweaks you master inside PowerMill are what separate an average toolpath from a great one. After years of experimenting, I’ve found that there are a few little habits I return to every single week. They’ve saved me hours of rework, improved my finishes, and made my setups far more predictable. Here’s a peek into my process 👇 The first is about controlling stock engagement. Instead of letting PowerMill “decide” how much material each pass takes, I fine-tune engagement limits. It’s a 2-minute setup that prevents tool overload and gives me consistent cutting conditions. Result? My cutters last longer, and my cycle times shrink. The second habit is custom macros for repetitive setups. I don’t waste time re-entering the same parameters. I’ve built a library of macros that apply feeds, speeds, and clearances automatically. It’s like having a “personal assistant” inside PowerMill that remembers exactly how I like things done. And the third one? Smoothing toolpaths for the machine, not just the screen. On the computer, a sharp corner looks harmless. On the machine, it means a sudden deceleration that kills both surface finish and time. By smoothing arcs and transitions, I let the machine move the way it wants to, fluid, fast, and efficient. Individually, these tricks might look small. But together? They’re the difference between “just another toolpath” and a program that runs cleaner, faster, and safer.
