“I was impressed with Shellie from our first meeting at our incentive trip in Curacao. I saw it as a listening tour of all the Presidents. She listened. Not only did she listen, she put it into action. Our international conference was a total remake and a template for all to follow. Shellie pulled together the best our company has to offer from Presidents that shared knowledge and skills to inspirational personal success stories plus an outside resource to enhance our personal growth. The best part is it continues. Shellie set up a Consultant training fb page where what she began at conference is now shared with the entire field. Shellie is a game changer and I am forever grateful for her contribution to our business. Cheri Doughterty, President, Aloette of Kansas City”

This article is absolutely spot-on with point #1. Most leaders think uncertainty is what paralyzes an organization… but more often it’s shrinking their ambition to match the chaos around them. In my work with CEOs, the biggest growth stalls don’t come from market conditions—they come from incremental thinking disguised as “realism.” When leaders narrow their horizon to the next quarter, teams immediately feel the shift. Innovation slows and the tolerance for risk drops. And suddenly the whole organization is managing and reacting to —not creating—the future. The firms that break through plateaus are the ones where leadership keeps the long-term vision non-negotiable, even when the short-term feels uncomfortable. That clarity pulls people forward, gives them conviction, and raises the standard of performance across the business. Are you playing it safe? Or playing to win? The organization will always follow the leader’s mindset. Great post #vistage.
