Applying the Scientific Method to AI-Driven K–12 Education: The transformation of K–12 education through artificial intelligence can be systematically developed using a structured research approach. Which is Observe -- Question -- Hypothesis -- Experiment -- Test -- Share results To start with, observation in which educators recognize persistent challenges in traditional classrooms—such as one-size-fits-all instruction, limited personalization, and gaps in student understanding. These limitations highlight the need for a more responsive system that adapts to individual learners. AI-based platforms already demonstrate that learning can be continuously adjusted based on student performance, engagement, and progress, offering a more tailored experience. The next step is to question how teaching can evolve: Can learning be personalized for every student? Can teachers receive real-time insights into student weaknesses? Can curriculum delivery be both scalable and adaptive? These questions lead to a hypothesis—that an AI-driven learning environment, built on adaptive lessons, predictive analytics, and continuous feedback, can significantly improve student outcomes by identifying gaps and adjusting instruction dynamically. Such systems rely on algorithms that analyze student responses and modify content, pacing, and difficulty in real time. To validate this, educators experiment by implementing AI-powered lessons that integrate multiple learning modalities—structured content aligned with curriculum standards, interactive explanations, multimedia resources, and automated question generation based on historical exam patterns. These systems can also provide predictive assessments and personalized study paths, allowing students to focus on their specific areas of weakness while progressing at their own pace. The testing phase involves measuring outcomes such as student mastery, engagement levels, and performance improvements. AI systems enable detailed analytics, offering teachers dashboards that highlight learning gaps, track progress, and recommend targeted interventions. This shifts the teacher’s role from content delivery to strategic facilitation, where instruction is guided by data rather than assumptions. Finally, the process concludes by sharing results, where insights, performance data, and case studies are communicated to educators, policymakers, and stakeholders. This dissemination not only validates the effectiveness of AI-driven teaching models but also supports broader adoption and continuous refinement. In essence, applying the scientific method to AI in education creates a feedback-driven ecosystem where teaching is no longer static but continuously evolving—ensuring that every student receives personalized, adaptive, and outcome-focused learning experiences.

Language Learning & Technology https://lnkd.in/dx9eB4H Latest article: A protocol for evaluating AI chatbots’ capabilities for low-resource language teachers Nicholas Swinehart, University of Chicago Phuong Nguyen, University of Chicago Ellen Yeh, Independent Researcher Abstract One constraint on the potential of generative AI (genAI) in language teaching is the variability in performance across languages. Large language models (LLMs) typically perform better in higherresource languages in which they have received more training data (Godwin-Jones, 2025; Kern, 2024), but it is difficult to know how well an LLM performs in a given language. Since most users interact with an LLM through a chatbot, this paper presents a protocol that language instructors can use to evaluate a genAI chatbot’s ability to generate and analyze their target language in ways related to language teaching, along with results from piloting this protocol with 46 instructors across 26 languages. Within this protocol, instructors submitted a series of language teaching-related prompts to Microsoft Copilot and evaluated output in terms of linguistic quality, task completion, and usefulness for their teaching using a four-point Likert scale. Analyses of responses to Likert-scale items and open-ended questions indicated that while performance was perceived to be better in higher-resource languages, instructors of low- and extremely low-resource languages generally found the output to be potentially useful. The paper concludes with implications for evaluating genAI chatbots in language teaching and recommendations for categorizing languages based on availability of resources.

The future of K-12 EdTech is shifting, and the latest SETDA report reveals some critical trends! For the first time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has surpassed cybersecurity as the top state edtech priority and initiative.  This aligns with the broader market trend of AI being central to personalized learning, with the global EdTech market projected to reach over $400 billion by 2025. Here are the key findings from the 2025 report: AI is everywhere. States are taking action by developing policies, providing professional development, and investing in new tools. States like Utah, North Carolina, and Wyoming are leading the way by hiring specialists, creating classroom guidelines, and launching educator networks to build capacity. (Ironically, some SEAs aren't embracing AI themselves when it comes to leveraging AI for efficiency, efficiency and transparency.) Funding is the top unmet need. With federal relief funds now expired, states are grappling with tightening budgets and uncertainty about sustained funding. This has led to a major market trend: the new "prove it" standard, where districts are prioritizing solutions that can demonstrate a clear, measurable impact on student outcomes to justify their investment. Device bans are on the rise. Three out of four states have either adopted or are considering device bans to support student mental health and reduce distractions. However, many are also focusing on teaching responsible use through digital citizenship. Professional learning is a key focus. While a priority for state leaders, professional learning for educators remains an unmet need. Cybersecurity remains a critical challenge. Threats are escalating, and states are continuing to focus on infrastructure investments to address these risks. These trends highlight a moment of both challenge and opportunity for state education agencies as they chart a path forward. The report emphasizes that leaders are rising to meet the moment with creativity and pragmatism to support students and empower educators.
