This is an important piece. The optical industry should not wait for smart eyewear to be defined by Big Tech. Learn it now. Understand the technology. Understand the new business models. Understand what happens when eyewear becomes connected. My view remains the same: most eyewear will eventually become smart in some form. The question is who owns that transition.

The Sensor Driven Transformation of MedTech: Danaher’s $10 Billion Strategic Integration of Masimo https://lnkd.in/eMZtBV9x The announcement on February 17, 2026, that Danaher Corporation has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Masimo Corporation for approximately $10 Billion represents a watershed moment in the evolution of medical technology. This transaction, valuing Masimo at $180 per share in an all-cash deal, signals a fundamental realignment in the medtech industry, where the value proposition is shifting from hardware-centric monitoring to high-margin, sensor-based data analytics. By folding the global leader in pulse oximetry into its Diagnostics segment, Danaher has telegraphed that real-time physiological data is no longer a peripheral utility but a core diagnostic pillar. The $10 Billion acquisition of Masimo by Danaher Corporation marks the end of an era for standalone medical monitoring and the beginning of a data-integrated future. For Danaher, the deal is a masterstroke of strategic timing: acquiring a world-class asset at a reasonable multiple following an activist-driven turnaround and a major legal victory against the world’s largest tech company. As the global population ages and healthcare systems shift toward decentralized, home-based models, the value of high-fidelity, noninvasive physiological data will only increase. By owning the sensors, the connectivity platforms, and the diagnostic data, Danaher is not just selling medical devices; it is selling the intelligence required to manage human health in an increasingly complex environment. The integration of Masimo into the Danaher portfolio will likely serve as a blueprint for "Big Medtech" in the years to come: a relentless focus on high-margin, sensor-derived data, the aggressive application of operational excellence to technological moats, and the seamless convergence of diagnostics and monitoring into a single, continuous clinical workflow. For professional peers in the industry, the message is clear: the hardware is the beginning; the data is the destination.

Danaher’s acquisition of Masimo isn’t just validation of sensor-driven MedTech. It’s validation of a deeper structural shift. Across the ventures I’m working with — continuous hormone monitoring, radiotheranostics, robotic surgery platforms — the same pattern is emerging: Medicine is becoming intelligence-based. Sensors are gateways. Biology is the signal. Robotics is precision execution. Data architecture is the moat. Enterprise value compounds when signal, interpretation, workflow, and regulatory architecture are integrated into a platform. The future of MedTech isn’t standalone devices. It’s intelligent clinical systems. For founders and investors, the question isn’t: “Is the technology impressive?” It’s: “Does it scale into a defensible intelligence platform?” That’s where the next decade of value creation lives.

The hardest questions in medtech today are no longer about the device. In the last few months, I’ve spent significant time with medical device teams across orthopedics, neuromodulation, and cardiovascular care. What’s striking is how rarely the conversation centers on hardware performance anymore. Instead, the focus has shifted to what happens after. After implantation. After discharge. After the rep leaves. After the trial closes. Because device performance is now table stakes. The real pressure is elsewhere: • Are patients actually recovering? • Are they more independent six months later? • Does function improve or plateau? • Can we prove durability beyond the procedure? These are not device questions. They are functional questions. Across the ecosystem, I’m seeing growing demand for continuous visibility into how people move in real life, not just how they perform in clinic. Episodic endpoints are no longer enough. Post-market differentiation is shifting toward real-world functional evidence. The next wave of medtech advantage will not come from smarter hardware alone. It will come from connecting devices to real-world functional truth. The companies that solve that layer will shape: • Evidence strategy • Clinical adoption • Commercial messaging • Long-term value If you’re thinking about how your device story extends beyond the moment of use, that conversation is already happening. Let's connect. OneStep
