Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Chief Financial Officer. Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer and the Board, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the most senior finance professional in the organization and is responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization.
The CFO manages assigned associates and provides financial leadership to support decision-making and improve the operating performance of the Company. This individual has broad financial management responsibilities including all day-to-day accounting, reporting and analysis, budgeting, credit and collections, audit, taxes, treasury, human resources, and risk management.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a Business Partner to the Company’s Board, President and the Executive Leadership Team and helps create and drive business strategy throughout the Company.
- Prepares reports that detail the Company’s metrics, operational and GAAP compliant financial results compared to prior periods, budget and the Company’s long-term strategy and provide explanations for significant or unusual items.
- Leads the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related analysis for the Company’s operations. Supports requests for special reports and analysis.
- Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial, operational, and cost management information to the President and other Company managers.
- Makes timely, actionable recommendations for both strategy and operations.
- Creates, coordinates, and directs the preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasts, and long-term strategic plans.
- Works with managers across the organization to collect data and instill accountability in all departments.
- Oversees long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the Company’s strategic plan.
- Manages daily accounting functions, related procedures, and controls.
- Mentors and develops the finance team, manages work allocation, trains employees, resolves problems, performs evaluations, and builds effective team dynamics.
- Ensures policies and procedures are effective and adequately documented.
- Implements and maintains adequate internal controls.
- Coordinates cash and debt management. Manages relationship with banks, short-term loan, and cash investments programs, and ensures compliance with all covenants.
- Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that ensures the Company has adequate cash to meet operating needs.
- Manages daily cash flow and forecasting.
- Develops a robust and actionable credit and collections policy and establishes culture of accountability in credit and collections.
- Optimizes the management of banking relationships and initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
- Manages relationships and execution for all regulatory, audit and tax requirements, including:
- External audits, including company, bank, and tax agency audits.
- Tax return preparation, including federal and state income, sales, property, and franchise; and
- Payroll tax reporting, including federal and state payroll, and unemployment taxes.
- Drives continuous improvement through business change initiatives, automation, and cost savings projects.
- Manages all aspects of the Company’s information technology.
- Manages the conversion of business operations and accounting from Peachtree Accounting to an ERP system.
- Manages documentation and implementation of new business processes required to implement an ERP system in the Company.
- Ensures the appropriate policies and procedures for safeguarding assets and managing risk.
- Ensures adequate insurance coverage is in place to protect the organization, its officers, and employees.
- Manages and oversees human resource function and ensures that adequate policies and procedures are in place for all employment functions and activities.
- Performs product cost analysis, develops standard product costs, and bills of material and performs various other cost accounting and analysis functions.
- Manages fixed asset and capital expenditure reporting for the Company.
- Prepares a variety of ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required to support the President and other Company managers.
- Performs special projects and other duties at the direction of the President and the Board.
Requirements
- Training in fields of business administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, computer science and similar vocations generally obtained through either an advanced degree, usually resulting in a master’s degree, or a CPA certification.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible related experience including at least 5+ years as a CFO and/or controller of a manufacturing company.
- Recent experience as a CFO in a private-equity owned manufacturing company with sales of at least $25 million and no more than $100 million. CPA designation required.
- Knowledge of various financial management areas including accounting principles, plan development, productivity, and profitability analysis.
- Understanding of general corporate policies, philosophy, goals, and objectives to affect appropriate financial oversight to protect the company’s assets.
- Knowledge of information and data systems used by a medium-size manufacturing company.
- Experience using and managing an ERP system in a medium-sized manufacturing company is required
- Experience converting a company from Peachtree accounting to an ERP system is highly desired.
- Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Ability to be tactically hands-on while thinking strategically.

- Experience using ERP and MRP systems is required.
