Special Agent

Role Description The Special Agent is a full-time, on-site role based in Topeka, KS, responsible for conducting criminal and administrative investigations related to fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct involving government programs and personnel. Day-to-day tasks include gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses and subjects, preparing detailed investigative reports, and coordinating with prosecutors and other law enforcement agencies. The Special Agent plans and executes investigative strategies, may participate in surveillance or field operations, and ensures all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and OIG policies. The role also involves providing testimony in court or administrative hearings when required, maintaining accurate case files, and engaging in ongoing training to stay current with investigative techniques and legal requirements.
Qualifications
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations, including evidence collection, analysis, and documentation, with strong attention to detail and adherence to legal standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting investigative reports, interviewing witnesses and subjects, and providing clear testimony in legal or administrative proceedings.
- Demonstrated analytical and critical-thinking skills to assess complex information, identify patterns of fraud or misconduct, and recommend appropriate investigative actions.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with colleagues, prosecutors, and other law enforcement agencies while maintaining professionalism, discretion, and ethical conduct.
- Proficiency with standard office software, databases, and investigative tools; ability to learn and use specialized case management or evidence-tracking systems.
- Ability to work on-site in Topeka, KS, manage multiple investigations simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Relevant experience in law enforcement, criminal investigations, compliance, auditing, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law, public administration, accounting, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and investigative experience.
- Ability to meet any required background checks, security clearances, and physical or training standards applicable to Special Agents.
