  • Indonesia is setting ambitious targets for its coffee export sector, aiming to increase value from Rp 40 trillion to Rp 100 trillion ($5.5 billion) over the long term. To achieve this ambitious goal, the government is focusing on enhancing on-farm productivity through high-yield seedling adoption and strategic industry support at the grassroots level. A particular emphasis is placed on Aceh's Gayo region, known for its esteemed coffee quality, where initiatives include a significant investment in coffee seedling distribution and farmland development. The recent surge in coffee prices offers a promising opportunity to enhance farmer incomes, demonstrating the real benefits of investing in productivity. Furthermore, Indonesia is overhauling its marketing and export systems to ensure more value retention for growers, aiming to strengthen its position in global coffee markets. As we seek to elevate Indonesia's status as a leading coffee producer, it's clear that the focus is on creating a sustainable, equitable future for our farmers. #coffee #Indonesia #sustainableagriculture Full Article: https://lnkd.in/ecG-SPmy

  • As the implementation date for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) approaches, Vietnamese coffee exporters are navigating a landscape of urgency and uncertainty. Large companies have just five months to align with compliance requirements, while smaller enterprises have a bit more time, around eleven months. The call for full traceability is clear: every coffee plot must be mapped with GPS coordinates, and proof must be provided that no deforestation has occurred since December 31, 2020. Industry leaders such as Simexco Daklak have invested over 15 years in building robust networks for traceability across 60,000 farming households. However, significant capital is required for technology, certifications, and data management systems to ensure compliance and maintain market access. Moreover, EUDR is only the beginning, with additional EU regulations on sustainability and climate emissions further shaping the landscape. Our community calls for unified guidance from Vietnamese authorities to systematically address these compliance challenges, ensuring the future of Vietnamese coffee in the EU market remains secure. #coffee #Vietnam #EUDR Full Article: https://lnkd.in/e5AQzgmW

  • 🌍 As domestic coffee prices in Vietnam see an upward trend, farmers in the Central Highlands report prices reaching 97,200 to 98,000 dong per kg - the highest levels in months. 📈 Despite this surge, trading activity remains subdued, with many traders hesitant to engage amid weak demand and rising costs. The market is contending with supply tightness that persists, even as certified stocks in London show some recovery. Additionally, while fresh Indonesian supplies are anticipated, their arrival has yet to significantly impact the regional availability. As senior buyers, it’s crucial to closely monitor these dynamics, as they will directly influence robusta availability for global roasters in the near term. #coffee #Vietnam #supplychain Full Article: https://lnkd.in/eFEiv3_f

  • Brazil's coffee exports for the 2025/26 crop year have seen a significant setback, declining by 15.7% to 38.5 million bags—the lowest figures since 2022/23. Despite export earnings being nearly on par with the previous year at $14.6 billion, the decline in green coffee shipments was driven by adverse weather conditions and logistical bottlenecks at key ports. While June exhibited a positive turnaround with a 16.9% year-over-year export increase, the first half of the year remained challenging, particularly regarding shipments to the U.S. and Germany. The rise in exports to Italy and Colombia indicates shifting trade dynamics, showcasing the resilience of Brazil’s coffee market amidst global challenges. As we look ahead, attention is focused on the quality of the upcoming Arabica harvest, which could be pivotal for Brazil's coffee export performance. #coffee #Brazil #agriculture Full Article: https://lnkd.in/e6rGH9R6

  • 🚨 Exciting news for the coffee sector! The U.S. Trade Representative has granted a tariff exemption for Brazilian coffee, including unflavored instant varieties. This crucial decision safeguards approximately $2–$2.5 billion in Brazilian coffee exports to the U.S., ensuring that this staple remains competitively priced and accessible for consumers. With two-thirds of American adults consuming coffee daily, this exemption plays a vital role in maintaining supply flow and stabilizing prices. As Brazil stands as a leading exporter of instant coffee, the decision not only preserves market dynamics but also mitigates the threat of cost increases for U.S. buyers. The implications extend beyond just economics; they signal the importance of our trade relationship with Brazil in meeting U.S. coffee demands effectively. This strategic exemption contributes significantly to job creation and economic stability within the coffee industry. #coffee #Brazil #TradeRelations Full Article: https://lnkd.in/e7znTjxF

  • Brazil's coffee export forecast for the 2026/27 crop year anticipates a significant recovery, with an expected 45 million 60-kg bags shipped. This marks a 17% increase from the previous year, reflecting the resilience of the world's largest coffee producer. However, challenges loom, particularly from adverse weather conditions affecting production quality and logistics issues that have historically constrained shipments. Notably, Brazil's once top export market, the U.S., has ceded its position to Germany, a shift largely prompted by geopolitical fluctuations and trade tariffs. Despite these challenges, the sector shows promise with projections for stable exports in 2026. The balance of quality concerns and logistics will be crucial as we navigate this evolving landscape. #coffee #Brazil #exports Full Article: https://lnkd.in/eCCCmeq3

  • 🚨 Exciting news for the coffee industry! Brazil’s instant coffee has been granted an exemption from the recently imposed 25% U.S. tariff on imports, a change that is anticipated to significantly benefit trade relations between Brazil and the United States. The removal of these tariffs safeguards between $2 billion and $2.5 billion in annual coffee exports to the U.S., a crucial market for Brazilian soluble coffee. This decision alleviates margin pressures for exporters and stabilizes prices for U.S. buyers, setting the stage for a potential rebound in shipments after recent declines. Kudos to the dedicated efforts of Cecafe and the U.S. National Coffee Association for their collaboration in securing this valuable exemption. #coffee #Brazil #trade Full Article: https://lnkd.in/e-CukGXU

  • 🚨 Important Update for Coffee Industry Stakeholders 🚨 The European Commission has officially included soluble coffee under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), effectively closing a significant gap in the regulations established earlier this year. This move addresses the previously fragmented approach to regulating coffee products and aims to mitigate deforestation linked to robusta cultivation. With this addition, companies engaged in the sourcing, trading, and processing of soluble coffee—predominantly produced from robusta beans—must now ensure compliance with the same due diligence standards that apply to green and roasted coffee. As we approach the staggered rollout of EUDR, starting in December 2026, the pressure on robusta supply chains to enhance traceability and sustainability will intensify. This initiative not only harmonizes market conditions but also underscores the importance of operational adaptations for traders and roasters handling instant coffee products. The alignment of compliance measures across coffee categories provides clarity and reinforces the collective responsibility to preserve our forests. #coffee #EUDR #Vietnam Full Article: https://lnkd.in/etBB6AzG

  • A recent review from the University of Naples Parthenope and the University of Tuscia examines the evolving landscape of the coffee supply chain, analyzing 137 peer-reviewed articles from 2000 to 2024. The insights reveal significant trends and persistent gaps that senior buyers in the industry should consider. Key findings highlight the geographic imbalance in research, emphasizing the dominance of studies from the U.S. and Brazil, while coffee-producing regions in Central America, East Africa, and Southeast Asia remain underrepresented. The last few years have seen accelerated publications driven by climate concerns, consumer demand for ethical products, and the integration of digital tools such as blockchain and IoT. Despite a tight connection among stakeholders, fragmentation in academia hampers cohesive, data-driven strategies. There's a substantial opportunity in repurposing coffee waste, with over 90% currently ending up in landfills. Consumer preferences are shifting towards certified and traceable products, raising costs and potential inequities for smallholders if support does not match this demand. As we navigate these complexities, leveraging technology and fostering collaboration across the supply chain will be crucial to meet the evolving expectations of informed consumers. #coffee #sustainability #Italy Full Article: https://lnkd.in/e3cVgNk5
