It's the execution that makes this game so damn good. The stellar visuals, amazing audio, and incredible attention to detail draw you into another world.
The graphics are amazing (mind you, even on a mediocre system), the sound is amazing (if you don’t have a 5.1 system yet, consider it), and the game is downright scary.
One of the greatest action horror games to this day - all thanks to a unique twist on a beloved franchise. The twist being a horror focus that frightens the player through creepy yet beautiful environments, creating an atmosphere few games can replicate (the game also builds its atmosphere through genius sound design and memorable world building in its intro). Not only is this a unique way to scare the player, but it doesn't take away from the action that more 'in your face' horror tropes do - in a way it can even enhance the action and this is how Doom 3 separates itself from other action horror games.
Contrary to popular belief, Doom 3's gameplay is just as good as the earlier titles. While it may take a while to get going, Doom 3's core gameplay mechanics are identical to its praised predecessors. If you played Doom before - you know what to expect.
While obviously not a focus, the story still holds its own and is perfect for the type of game Doom 3 aims to be. The game has many tiny issues, which people blow up in proportion just because they dislike the horror focus the franchise took. In reality, these problems are easy to ignore and are outshined by the games highlights. It's more of a 9.5, but since I can't choose that option I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. 10/10. Highly recommend though not for everybody - if you're a Doom fan or enjoy action horror: I see no reason why you wont love this game as much as I do.
One fantastic thing about Doom 3 is that the game gets better the more you play it, and the further you get, the better the weapons, the bigger the monsters, the more diverse the environments, and the greater the thrills.
While the visual depiction of the demons is easily Doom 3's strong point, the A.I. driving them is perhaps its weakest -- and the one thing that keeps the game from becoming a true masterpiece. In short, these guys are dumb.
Possibly the least original shooter released this year. The enemy AI is standard but effective, the guns are big and beefy and it's basically a case of running around and pulling the trigger.
The Animation and the Environment is very Good, However The GamePlay Declines Quite In Front of Other Similar Games, The GamePlay Is Excessively Slow To My Liking, WHY?
1 The character has a slow step, which takes away a lot of adrenaline
2 There are many things to solve, which makes us have to go and return for the same places over and over again, which takes action, takes away the adrenaline, makes it boring and exhausted
3 too dark and you must be recharging the flashlight and turning it on every time, which, more of the same, boring.
4 Although the game complies with provoking some terror (more than all that it causes is anxiety for slowness), the environment is basically very technological, which is fine for those who like that, I prefer a more mechanical and monstrous environment.
Good game that terror increases a little but the action lowers a lot, for such, I do not have the patience to play it completely
The great return of a terrific incomplete saga. I see that many people enjoyed it. Unfortunately it is not my case. Obviously it was a big leap for id Software to leave this old-school range to propose a brand new content to players around the world.
Graphics are bad to me. Not terrible but wow bad : poor textures, no colours, terrible effects, and everything is dark. Like boys, it's too much. We can't see a thing from beginning to end here ! Cinematics are a nightmare. Sound design and effects are okay. Weapons are unimpressive and particularly uneffective even against basic opponents. Interacting with codes and PDAs is really intuitive and well thought out. In general, the gameplay is really boring. You only have to follow long and empty halls and corridors. Progressing through levels is a pain in the neck, especially for the five first hours. Five hours : do you realize how long it is ? Enemies sometimes pop here and there but we are miles away from the intensity I knew for DOOM the 1st and II. Multiplayer is a big mess. AI is awful. The story is dull.
Nothing to dream about for sure. Don't waste your time here.
What? This? You call this game comparable to Half life 2? No, it's not, its just "that" game in great game series which is weird and doesn't feet. Actually when this game arrived, there was not so many good games in that time, that's why it got this score but no no no, it didn't aged well at all, unlike half life 1 and 2, gameplay is boring and linear, story is non existing, guns are all the same. I didn't enjoy it when it came out, and i know that no one said that this is the best game ever, and now i see that fake reviews existed long time ago. I didn't remember anything epic from this game. This game aged like dead body - its skeleton now.
