Globe Theatre - Design, Architecture, Playhouse: The design of the original Theatre responded to a mix of traditions. Its name, which up to then had been used for atlases (such as Mercator’s) rather than for playhouses, drew attention to the Roman theatre tradition. Its circular shape, though, reflected not the D-shape of a Roman amphitheatre but the gatherings of crowds in a circle around the actors in town marketplaces, where all the players of 1576 got their training. The concept of…

Shakespeare’s Globe (England). 'Few London experiences can beat a Bard’s eye view of the stage at the recreated Globe and it’s even more fun to get a ticket to stand (Elizabethan style). But if you want a more comfortable perspective on Shakespeare, pay a bit more and grab one of the seats in the galleries. The theatre is a triumph of authenticity, right down to the nail-less construction.' http://www.lonelyplanet.com/england/london/sights/historic-theatre/shakespeares-globe

Shakespeare’s original Globe theatre (known as ‘The Globe’) first opened in London in the year 1599. The open-air theatre staged some of Shakespeare’s most famous plays over the next 14 years. However in 1613, during a performance of Henry VIII, the entire theatre burnt down after a prop malfunctioned and set the thatched roof on fire. The second Globe was built within a year and operated until 1642 when it was closed by parliamentary decree. Today’s Globe Theatre is a reconstruction that…

However (and this is the part where you probably won’t like me), seeing another Shakespearean play performed is not on my list. That’s the reason...

an outdoor theater with people sitting on the seats and in the middle of the stage

This little theatre nerd has been wanting to go to Shakespeare’s Globe since she read Romeo and Juliet for the first time in fifth grade. Seeing Antony and Cleopatra at the Globe was one of the highlights of London for me - not only was the venue a super fun check off the bucket list, but the production was amazing - and bilingual! Half the actors spoke British Sign Language, which added another rich layer to the production. Thoroughly enjoyed the show! #shakespearesglobe #shakespeare…

Ever heard of this guy? He wrote plays or something like that? Now, this is not the original theater, but it is a fully operational new version of it, located right beside the Thames in Central London. I was lucky enough to get a private tour of the facility and it was really cool, as you can see. Everything appears to be pretty authentic, from the thatched roof to the multiple view levels. In fact, it's exactly how I remember it from Civilization. The guy that was showing us around said…

Attention! Diamond jubilee fever is officially over after reaching its ultimate peak with the Queen’s birthday yesterday.
