With the rising buzz of partying and musical evenings, the city comes alive in all its colours for celebrating New Year. Revellers look for a wide variety of ways to ring out 2009 and ring in 2010. Hotels, shopping malls, bar and restaurants and all minor and major businesses houses have geared up to grab their slice of the patronage from the happy shopping crowds.
Come New Year, Vijayawadians have their favourite haunts to enjoy their quality time with family and friends. Gateway, DV Manor, Fortune Murali Park, Minerva, Lotus Food City, Manorama, Ilapuram and a whole lot of hotels are decked up colourfully for the celebrations. They have come up with a number of attractive packages to meet the needs of revellers.
Bakeries made hectic business with the culture of cake-cutting with near and dear ones gripping the city. Bakers Inn, Bawarchi and other bakers came out with cute and novel designs to satiate the festive zeal of enthusiasts. No cake rolled out from these stores that have no words “Happy New Year” sculpted in bright colours on them.
Big Bazaar, Spencer’s, Modern Market and such shopping malls marked heavy crowds walking in to pick up all sorts of necessities to make the celebrations really enjoyable and memorable. People wearing glittering clothes exchanged greetings for the New Year in a reflection of celebratory mood everywhere. “A very Happy New Year. It is never too early to say such greetings,” says L.S. Shankar Das, a young man working in an insurance company. He would like to make it very special by arranging a family together with far and near ones sharing the joy of the celebrations.
Illuminated environs
Illuminated environs, matchless ambience and fine decorations brought a bridal look to many hotels, where they lined up musical evenings and a lot of such entertainment activities for families and revellers to enjoy the night. Hotels competed with one another to make their events most prestigious. Noted music bands, well-known singers and magic show experts thrilled the crowds no end. The celebratory mood catches on among all sections, as eating out with friends and families or going to a cinema became the order of the day. The hotels, restaurants and cinema halls are spruced up for giving the right kind of ambience to revellers. At some places, apartments and individual buildings got decked up with the residents coming together to share the joy of the occasion. The city people have left behind the inconvenience that they faced because of the recent agitations against the bifurcation of the State. There is still uncertainty on the whole issue, but that is no reason to dampen the spirits around this all important time.
