The 3 Best & 3 Worst Red-Carpet Outfits Of 2025 (So Far)

Although we may have big ceremonies like the Oscars and the Grammys already behind us, we still have many more red-carpet moments to go in 2025. For example, one of the most exciting nights for haute couture, the Met Gala, is less than a month away, and this year's theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," will make for some interesting looks.

But from what we've seen so far, it's already been an exciting year for fashion, and many people took style risks that paid off. Of course, it's hard to ignore some of the worst-dressed attendees at the 2025 Oscars, but for the most part, celebrities brought their A-game to each ceremony. Demi Moore, especially, took every award show as another opportunity to not only confront aging with confidence, but prove some of us do get better and more stylish with each decade.

If you missed award season or you just love a throwback, here are the three best and worst red-carpet outfits of 2025 so far. Those who came up short in their attire choices earlier this year still have time to turn it around. And, let's hope for the sake of fashion history, some of them do.

Best: Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton at the 97th Academy Awards

Watching Cynthia Erivo's stunning style transformation has been an absolute thrill. Erivo has very much come into her own, something she's proven throughout the promotion of her film "Wicked." So, it only made sense that she would continue with that energy, showing up to the 97th Academy Awards in a dark green velvet gown by Louis Vuitton, clearly an ode to her "Wicked" character, Elphaba. With its high collar and puffed sleeves, the gown isn't just gorgeous but speaks to the personal eclectic style of Erivo, as well as the creativity of the film. This also wasn't the first time Erivo turned to LV to create a green look this past year. For the L.A. premiere of "Wicked," Erivo rocked green vinyl, of all things, by the legendary brand.

"My stylist Jason had an idea about asking Louis Vuitton about vinyl, which normally isn't the first go-to when it comes to a carpet," Erivo told Vogue in November 2024. "I thought the fabric choice was strong and divine, which is how I see my character. We've also worked with LV on a vinyl look before that created a wow factor, so I guess we wanted to try our hand at that again and see what the reaction would be this time."

Best: Demi Moore in Giorgio Armani Privé at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards

Everything Demi Moore wore during the 2025 awards season was stunning. Not only was she raking in award after award, until the Oscars rolled around, but every look was a lesson in how to be flawless. While Moore's stunning style transformation may be partially of her own doing, as she's the one rocking these gowns after all, her stylist Brad Goreski deserves the credit. When talking about the Giorgio Armani Privé gown that Moore wore to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, Goreski told Who What Wear that he was obsessed with the fabric because of the way it moved and looked due to being made of silk and metal, and that no other color but that luscious gold would suffice.

"Because I just felt like she was just so golden," Goreski said of Moore in his WWW interview, adding that the entire dress came together over the 2024 holiday season. "It was also the story of the dress being off-balance. I didn't want to do another strapless dress. One of the big things in 'The Substance' is respecting the balance, and the balance was off. The middle of the gown was Elisabeth Sparkle coming through, and the two sides represented Sue and Elisabeth." It also helped that when Moore won the Globe, it matched her gown perfectly.

Best: Doechii in Thom Browne at the 2025 Grammy Awards

Not only did Doechii become the third woman in the history of the Grammy Awards to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album for "Alligator Bites Never Heal," but she did so while wearing Thom Browne. Doechii arrived in a Thom Browne pinstripe, body-hugging gown with exaggerated hips, a perfectly tailored white button-down shirt underneath, and a tie that pulled the whole look together. "I think that this is sleek and simple and to the point," Doechii told Vogue in February 2025. "It tells a story and it's direct." It's also a gown that commands you not only look in her direction, but actually notice every inch of its spectacular design.

Doechii stuck to the Thom Brown theme all night by wearing a different dress by the designer when she accepted her award for Best Rap Album. She also performed in head-to-toe Thom Browne, then partied in a custom-made bubble dress by the designer after the awards show. Every look immediately became iconic.

Worst: Mikey Madison in Christian Dior at the 97th Academy Awards

To get straight to the point, it's not the Christian Dior dress that's the problem here, but the person wearing it and the event for which it's being worn. As Mikey Madison proved in "Anora," she's a talented actress who is very much deserving of accolades. But the issue here is that this was Madison's first Oscar nomination, and she chose to play it both safe and boring.

Yes, strong Audrey Hepburn vibes are radiating from this coquette black and pink gown, but when you're attending the Academy Awards and you're nominated in the Best Actress category, you don't want to be remembered for wearing something cutesy if you win. You want that memory to be full of glitz and glamour. Even if you believe in your heart you're going to lose to Demi Moore, which may have gone through Madison's head, you still want to know you brought the frills and drama to the Oscars. Let's hope that if Madison attends the Met Gala, she takes the opportunity to remedy this fashion error.

Worst: Zoe Saldaña in Saint Laurent at the 97th Academy Awards

It's easy to get wrapped up in Zoe Saldaña's Saint Laurent gown that she wore to the 2025 Oscars. With the luscious burgundy billowy tiers, rhinestone top, and black sheer gloves, it screams art deco, and that's a good thing. This also means that if Saldaña were going to the Met Gala and the theme was somehow related to the 1920s, this dress would have knocked it out of the park. But she's at the Academy Awards, and we're in the 2020s.

Not only did Saldaña win almost every award she was nominated for this year, including the Oscar for her role in "Emilia Pérez," but she also relied on Saint Laurent to dress her for the events. While her gowns for the BAFTAs, SAG Awards, and Golden Globes were all beautiful and appropriate for the occasion, it almost feels like when the Oscars rolled around, Saldaña decided she wanted to flip the script on the looks that were working for her and step outside the box. While no one can blame her for wanting to spice things up after playing it fairly safe with her other gowns, this particular design just feels out of place.

Worst: Taylor Swift in Vivienne Westwood at the 2025 Grammy Awards

Taylor Swift may be one of the wealthiest, most well-known pop stars on the planet, but that doesn't stop her from continuously wearing outfits that just don't work and sporting outdated trends over and over again. So, it's no big surprise that Swift attended the 2025 Grammy Awards in a one-shoulder, sparkly red mini-dress by Vivienne Westwood, and looked like she was going to crash a cocktail party hosted by her ex, ready to make a scene. It didn't say Grammy Awards.

Not only is the dress a total miss for the occasion, but Swift also has the letter "T" dangling on her thigh, which we know is Swift's way of making sure the attention is on her. Known for driving the Swifties crazy with Easter eggs, the "T" quickly had people wondering what it could possibly mean. Was the "T" for her or her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce? Was it a reference to her song "Guilty As Sin" from her album The Tortured Poet's Department? It would be nice if Swift could, for a change, try not to make the internet flip on its head with her obvious manipulations.

The methodology behind this ranking

When determining the three best and worst dressed red-carpet outfits of 2025, it wasn't just about the dresses and whether or not they looked good. Instead, we considered the specific event these celebrities were attending, the thought that was put into the color, style, texture, and design of the dress regarding the reason for the choice, and whether the whole look came together flawlessly, not needing a single note.

It goes without saying that most celebrities have hits and misses if their career is long enough, but what Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, and Demi Moore brought to the red carpet in 2025 has been absolutely breathtaking. Although Doechii didn't attend as many events as Moore and Erivo, she certainly made up for it on Grammy night alone, showing the world how to surpass fashionista and reach fashion icon. As for the three worst dressed, it doesn't suggest anything negative about them, but just proves that some of the most talented people in the world don't always slay.
