Maggie Lockwood From Chicago Med Is Gorgeous In Real Life
The NBC series "Chicago Med" wouldn't be complete without Gaffney Medical Center's head charge nurse of the emergency department, Maggie Lockwood. Played by Marlyne Barrett, Lockwood is known for remaining cool and level-headed during medical crises, and looking gorgeous while doing it. In January 2024, Barrett showed an Instagram reel of her in the makeup chair getting into character, with her in Lockwood's signature long wavy hair, which is a super flattering style for women in their 30s. "You look beautiful QUEEN," a fan commented.
Lockwood is just as gorgeous in real life, but the actor has revealed that her tresses are much different than her character's. "My natural hair is more of a curly dropped afro, and it represents me well. Maggie Lockwood on 'Chicago Med' has it straight with some waves this season, and I really enjoy this look as well," she told Women Fitness in 2019. On how she keeps her flawless face looking like cloud skin, Lockwood revealed, "I love to exfoliate my skin. I go to a dermatologist once every [three to four] months. We do have great products they provide for us on set. I enjoy natural products." In 2022, Barrett shared an Instagram pic of herself with a shaved head, and while she still looked as stunning as ever, the "Chicago Med" star revealed the heartbreaking reason for her new look.
Marlyne Barrett embraced her cropped 'do after her cancer diagnosis
During Season 5 of "Chicago Med," Maggie Lockwood underwent chemotherapy for breast cancer, and sadly, Marlyne Barrett revealed her own diagnosis in September 2022. "I had this accumulation of fluid [in my abdomen] that I couldn't shake. I looked like I was nine months pregnant," she told People. It turned out that she had ovarian and uterine cancer, and the doctors told her that the best course was chemotherapy, followed by a hysterectomy. Knowing that she'd experience hair loss, Barrett took matters into her own hands. "I didn't want to give the power to chemo. My hair has always been an essence of beauty. But I took my own razor, and I shaved my head," she shared.
After bravely sharing her story, Barrett posted a picture of herself grinning while flaunting her shaved head. "I am Blown away at the support and love that I've received. Thank you for the encouragement. It means a lot to me and my family at this time," she wrote. In May 2022, Barrett showed off her celebrity pixie cut that just might inspire your next super short haircut. A fan commented, "Absolutely stunning."
