Hello Curry Pvt. Ltd. was an Indian food delivery and Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) company headquartered in Hyderabad, India.[1][2][3] Founded in early 2014, it was one of the early food technology startups to gain prominence in the Hyderabad market, focusing on delivering Indian curry-based meals in a fast-food format with attractive packaging. By November 2015 they had 32 outlets for its food delivery operations.[4][5]
History
[edit]Hello Curry was founded in early 2014 by Raju Bhupathi and Sandeep Penumatsa. The core idea was to address the lack of reliable and quick delivery options for Indian cuisine by offering standardized, quick-service Indian food, focusing on taste, quality, and innovative packaging. They delivered fast food prepared at partner restaurants.[6][7] The company quickly gained traction, becoming a popular food-tech startup in Hyderabad.
By November 2015, the company had expanded its operations to 32 outlets. It also expanded its physical presence by opening its first dine-in QSR restaurant, also named "Hello Curry", in Hyderabad in January 2015.[8] Hello Curry also started a new product line called Hello Paratha in September 2015, which purveyed stuffed parathas, often utilizing a "Kitchen in Commercial Kitchen (KICK)" model where they partnered with existing restaurants for food preparation and delivery logistics, while Hello Curry handles expenses for food and packaging.[6].
The company was financially backed, having raised a seed funding round from Sri Capital in March 2014.[9]
Acquisitions
[edit]As part of its strategy for rapid expansion and menu diversification, Hello Curry acquired several Hyderabad-based food-tech startups.
Paratha Post
[edit]Hello Curry acquired the Paratha Post, an Indian fast-food chain specializing in parathas, in April 2015. The acquisition was a cash and stock deal, aimed at expanding Hello Curry's offerings and was later re-branded into "Hello Paratha."[6]
Fire42
[edit]In June 2015, Hello Curry acquired a technology firm, Fire42, to strengthen their in-house technology team and support its national expansion plans.
TheFirstMeal
[edit]Hello Curry acquired TheFirstMeal, an Indian FoodTech Startup, in April 2016, in a cash and stock deal, for them to enter breakfast and meal-box delivery section, and strengthen their operations in Hyderabad.[2] TheFirstMeal was founded in 2015 by Yuv Raj Poosarla, Suraj Prakash Subedi and Saswata Shankar De.[10][11][12] TheFirstMeal delivered breakfast as a subscription service to users who subscribed through its website and Android, iOS and Windows apps. They collaborated with private kitchens to prepare the food and handled the packaging and delivery themselves. They were serving around 10,000 boxes a month, with 89% customer retention rate by early 2016.[13]
