Yes the old code had many bugs, where most were known. But there were
discussions to backport this to 5.3 before release but back then nobody
was around who was willing to do the maintenance for this new code with
new unknown bugs. Therefore it was left out.

Merging such major changes in a released branch like 5.3 is no option.


Yadda yadda, it's a bug fix. Just call next one 5.4 like it should be.
