How You Can Help

Thank you for your interest in the Organization for Transformative Works! There are many ways that you can support the OTW.

Contribute to our projects!

  • Publish, read, and kudos fanworks on the Archive of Our Own (AO3). If you’re familiar with coding, you can also contribute to AO3’s open-source code yourself through our GitHub.
  • Write about your fandom and its history on Fanlore, or read about other fandoms and fannish history. Check out Fanlore’s new visitor portal to get started.
  • Keep informed about legal issues affecting fans by following our Legal Advocacy news, and contact our Legal committee if you have questions or are concerned about how a law could impact fandom and the OTW.
  • Refer endangered archives to Open Doors for preservation, or contact them if you’ve ever published a fanzine that you’d like to have preserved.
  • Read articles about transformative works and fan communities in our academic journal, Transformative Works and Cultures, or submit an article you’ve written that fits their mission.

Volunteer!
Interested in supporting one of our projects behind the scenes? We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and from all over the world. Check out our Volunteering FAQ for answers to some common questions!

Donate!
The OTW is a member-supported US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All our services are free and we do not have ads. We can’t do this without your help! Any donation of US$10 or more can confer membership rights to vote in OTW Board elections, and donations of over US$40 can qualify you for a membership gift (find our current selection on the donation page). You can also donate by mail. Even a little bit goes a long way!

Spread the word!
Tell people in your fandoms about the OTW and our projects. Boost our social media posts, download flyers to share at an upcoming convention or event, or use our icons and banners on your website or journal.
