Mohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكMohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكSaudi Arabia’s auto manufacturing startup CEER unveiled its first cars, two luxury electric vehicles that will go on sale early next year as the kingdom doubles down on a bet that the industry can help drive its economic diversification. The futuristic Exobot sedan and SUV have gull-wing doors and sweeping windscreens that stretch into the roof, a design that was personally picked by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Prices were not revealed, but CEER executives say the first models will target high-end buyers. Five more models at lower price points are planned by 2030. The cars will be built at a new production plant on the kingdom’s west coast, north of Jeddah, capable of producing 240,000 vehicles. CEER was launched by the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund in 2022 and its plant at King Abdullah Economic City is part of an emerging autos cluster that Saudi Arabia is developing in the hope of creating jobs, diversifying its economy, and boosting non-oil exports. Production will begin in early 2027 and the first deliveries to customers are expected in March, chief executive Jim DeLuca told Semafor in an interview on the sidelines of the launch event. #saudiarabia #EV #cars #autos #saudivision2030 #pif #ceerSaudi’s Ceer unveils first EVs in push to become autos hubSaudi’s Ceer unveils first EVs in push to become autos hub

Mohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكMohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكSaudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund is set to meet some of Wall Street’s biggest firms in New York this week as it seeks foreign backing for its spending plans amid cash constraints at home. Public Investment Fund’s senior management — along with representatives of some of its biggest companies including AI firm HUMAIN, Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District, and luxury hotel developer Red Sea Global — will be in New York later this week, according to people familiar with the matter. They are expected to meet with investors including Apollo, Blackstone, Brookfield, Carlyle, KKR, and Stonepeak, as well as the US Export-Import Bank. The Saudi delegation is not fundraising for a specific project from the event, which is being arranged by US investment bank Lazard. The meetings are intended to familiarize investors with PIF and its portfolio, laying the groundwork for future debt or equity fundraising from global investors, the people said. Mohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكMohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكThree Saudi companies have scrapped plans for initial public offerings that were scheduled over the next month because of expectations of weak investor demand as the Iran war weighs on sentiment, according to people familiar with the matter. The decision suggests the companies believe that foreign investors remain wary of putting new money into the kingdom’s stock exchange, and will likely put off other firms planning IPOs in the short term. That will be a blow to the owners of companies that were considering going public, including Public Investment Fund. The three companies — bottled drinks company Berain Water, lubricants and automobile servicing business Petrolube, and Facilities Management Company — have made the decision in recent days in coordination with the Capital Market Authority (CMA), the regulator, the people said. Mohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكMohammed Sergie أعاد نشر ذلكI wrote for TIME about my fourth trip to Syria since the fall of the regime. In July I stood in al-Hatab Square in Aleppo, a front line from 2013 to 2016 where people died crossing between the two sides, and watched a group of boys play soccer. That kind of ordinary scene was everywhere this trip. Crowded streets in old Damascus, cafes full through the night, fireworks over the Aleppo citadel that made me flinch before I remembered they weren't bombs. None of it is settled. Two bombings hit Damascus in a single week in July, and Alawite and Druze families on the coast and in the south are grieving losses that are new. Normalcy cannot mean some people dance while others grieve in silence. But children are playing soccer on an old battlefield. I think that's progress. https://lnkd.in/gkmiESAq

Mohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكMohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكAtlantic Council: President Al-Sharaa on Syria's Future One of the more striking moments of UNGA week for me. Earlier in the week, I had a chance to meet with Frederick Kempe, President & CEO of the Atlantic Council — a valuable exchange on how think tanks and the private sector can work together on regional economic engagement. That set the stage for something I won't forget: sitting in on the Atlantic Council Front Page conversation with H.E. President Ahmed Al-Sharaa of Syria, in conversation with Fred Kempe and Brett McGurk, on Syria's future, reconstruction, and regional role. Hearing President Al-Sharaa speak directly to Syria's economic recovery, institutional reform, and its widening reintegration into the region was a genuinely historic moment to witness in person. Reconstruction on this scale isn't just a policy conversation — it's one of the more consequential investment and development opportunities in the region for the next decade, and it was clear from the room that the world is watching closely. Proud to have been there representing Power International Holding's ongoing interest in the region's rebuild. #Syria #SyriaReconstruction #AtlanticCouncil #ACFrontPage #UNGA2026 #UNGA81 #AhmedAlSharaa #MiddleEast #MENA #Reconstruction #EconomicRecovery #InstitutionalReform #Diplomacy #Geopolitics #PowerInternationalHolding #NewYork #RegionalStability #InvestmentOpportunities #ForeignPolicy #Leadership

Mohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكMohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكA SEMAFOR story I’ve been working on with colleagues for months was finally published today. The piece (which is also why I've posted here far less than usual recently) looks at how South Africa is using its position as the world’s top platinum producer to pitch commercial opportunities to US investors. Platinum-group metals (PGMs) are prized for withstanding extreme heat, conducting electricity, and resisting corrosion. South Africa is a geological anomaly: it holds about 80% of the world’s known platinum reserves. The story explores how mineral resources, trade and geopolitics are inextricably linked in South Africa’s relationship with the US and China — a dynamic that also shapes many other African countries’ ties with the world’s two superpowers. My colleagues and I looked at Pretoria’s bet that trade and access to mineral resources are vital to the White House. The US needs PGMs for everything from its automotive industry to data-centre hardware and defence equipment — and, crucially, more than 40% of its supply comes from South Africa. We also examined the very different approach China has taken with Pretoria. Beijing needs PGMs for its data-centre buildout and to develop green hydrogen. While the Trump administration has criticised South African policies aimed at redressing inequalities tied to apartheid’s legacy, and most recently imposed 30% tariffs on imports from the country, China has lifted tariffs. Learning about behind-the-scenes trade talks and the geological forces that created the Bushveld Igneous Complex (a geological treasure trove) reminds me why I love journalism. Reporting began with conversations at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town at the start of the year. I later returned to South Africa to visit Mogalakwena, the world’s largest open-pit platinum mine, operated by Valterra Platinum, to deepen my understanding. I had the pleasure of working with Tiisetso Motsoeneng and sam mkokeli ZA, as well as photographer Oupa Nkosi. As ever, I’m immensely grateful to Prashant Rao for his astute editing. The story is about South Africa, but in reporting it I was struck by how much of this is relevant to countries across the continent. If you’re even slightly curious about any of the above, and can spare a few minutes, check out the story. https://lnkd.in/eCbc_pmz

Mohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكMohammed Sergie أضاف إعجابًا إلى ذلكSaudi Aramco says its investments in artificial intelligence and other technologies are already paying off by cutting costs, boosting efficiency, and enhancing its response to disruptions from the regional war. At Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran this week, Semafor saw how the company is deploying technology across its operations, and was given a glimpse of the quantum computer it plans to use for more complex tasks in the future. The state-controlled oil producer’s “realized value” from technology, its measure of the financial impact of its tech investments, exceeded $5 billion last year. That surpassed Aramco’s targets and should grow further in coming years, senior vice president of digital and information technology Sami Al Ajmi said in an interview. Aramco is using historical data, digital twins, and network monitoring across its facilities to identify problems and speed up recovery times, Al Ajmi said. Technology has helped the producer deal with disruptions to global shipping and restore operations at facilities struck by Iran and its proxies, he added, declining to comment on specific incidents. #aramco #oil #energymarkets #AI #tech #iranwarAramco says technology delivered $5 billion in value last yearAramco says technology delivered $5 billion in value last year
