These Terms of Use apply to AncestralFindings.com and the website resources provided by Ancestral Findings, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Please read them before using our articles, Genealogy Gold Podcast resources, free lookups, Genealogy eBooks, forms, and other services. By using the site, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
Our resources and research limitations
Ancestral Findings provides educational genealogy and history content, research suggestions, and free index lookups. Records may be incomplete, mistranscribed, outdated, or attributed to the wrong person. A possible match is a research lead, not proof of identity or relationship. An unsuccessful search does not establish that a person or event is absent from all records. Compare findings with original sources and independent evidence before relying on them.
We do not guarantee a particular result, response time, available record, or uninterrupted access. Collection descriptions and individual lookup guidelines explain scope and request limits. Our content is general information and does not replace professional advice for legal, financial, medical, citizenship, inheritance, or other decisions requiring qualified advice.
Who may submit information
This is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 must not submit personal information through our forms or comments. If you are under the age of legal adulthood where you live, involve a parent or guardian before submitting information or making a transaction. Additional age, location, or eligibility requirements may appear in a specific offer or giveaway.
Acceptable use
Use the site lawfully and respect other people’s rights. Do not submit unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, deceptive, infringing, or malicious content; impersonate someone; send spam; publish private information without authority; or attempt to gain unauthorized access. Except where a resource states otherwise, you may read, listen, link to our pages, and download or print a reasonable personal, noncommercial copy of a resource offered for that purpose. Keep copyright and attribution notices intact.
A free download does not transfer copyright or authorize resale, redistribution of the complete file, republication of substantial portions, or use of protected images or recordings in another product. For broader use, ask for permission. Public-domain materials, third-party licenses, fair use, and other statutory rights remain subject to their own rules; we do not claim ownership of historical facts or public-domain records.
Your submissions and private messages
You retain ownership of material you submit and are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to provide it. Do not include sensitive information about living people unless needed for the request and you have an appropriate right to provide it. Never send passwords, payment-card details, or government identification numbers through a genealogy inquiry.
For private lookup requests, Q&A messages, and correspondence, you authorize us to process the submission as reasonably needed to answer, research, administer, and retain the request as described in our Privacy Policy. A private message does not by itself authorize public publication of your identity or private family information. Separate permission is needed before we publish an identifiable private submission.
If you deliberately submit a public comment or other content for publication, you give us a nonexclusive, royalty-free permission to host, display, reproduce, and reasonably format that content in connection with the site and its discussion. You also permit the service providers needed to carry out those activities. This permission does not transfer ownership or authorize unrelated commercial use of your identity. Contact us about removal; backups, legal retention, or copies made independently by others may limit complete removal. Additional publication uses can be covered by a separate agreement.
Privacy and email preferences
Our Privacy Policy explains collection, providers, advertising technologies, retention, and privacy choices. These terms do not replace any legally required consent. A newsletter or resource-request form explains the communications associated with that request. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails through the link provided or contact us for help. Necessary replies about a request or transaction may continue.
Advertising, affiliate links, and outside websites
The site may display advertisements and include affiliate or referral links for which we may receive compensation. Applicable disclosures should accompany paid recommendations. Advertising placement does not guarantee a product’s quality, availability, accuracy, or suitability.

Copyright concerns

Identify the copyrighted work, the exact page or material in question, your contact details, and your authority to act. A formal copyright notice should include your physical or electronic signature, a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or law, and a statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner.
We may remove or restrict disputed content and contact the contributor. If your submission is removed by mistake, contact us with the relevant details. Any statutory notice or counter-notice process remains governed by applicable law. Access may be terminated for repeat infringement in appropriate circumstances. This section does not represent that a particular statutory safe harbor automatically applies.
Service disclaimers and limits
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site and its resources are provided “as is” and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. We do not guarantee that content is complete or error-free, that every record is accurate, or that the site or downloaded material will always be secure or available.

Changes, disputes, and general provisions
We may update resources, discontinue features, or revise these terms. Revisions will be posted with an updated effective date. Significant changes will receive additional notice when required by law. Changes apply prospectively and do not remove accrued or nonwaivable rights. Continued use after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance only to the extent applicable law permits; separate consent will be sought where required.
Please contact us first to try to resolve a concern. Applicable law determines the governing law, court jurisdiction, and available remedies; these terms do not require arbitration, waive a right to a jury trial, or shorten a statutory filing deadline. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to the extent legally possible. Failure to enforce a provision once does not waive it. A separate written agreement can govern a particular service.
