TERRAIN & ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS
The Sculpture & Architecture Park is accessible on foot throughout all weather, all year long. If seeking to experience all of the artworks on view, one will traverse grassy fields, forested paths, hills, and footbridges. There are no paved walking paths, and occasionally the trails become muddy and sometimes even impassable. Ticks, poison ivy, mud, and other natural hazards may be present. Be prepared with sturdy footwear and appropriate attire to best enjoy your experience.
Winter weather
In the event of snow or other hazardous winter conditions, the Benenson Center will follow the closure schedule of the Chatham Central School District. The Sculpture & Architecture Park will remain open. If conditions allow, cross country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted in the park with your own equipment. No rental equipment is available. Trails are not groomed.
Accessibility
The Benenson Visitors Center, Newmark Gallery, and restrooms are accessible to wheelchairs.
For visitors seeking a mobility friendly way to experience the Sculpture & Architecture Park, we offer Golf Cart Accessibility Loops from April through October. We are unable to offer Accessibility Loops in our Off-Peak Season as golf carts are unable to traverse muddy or icy terrain. This free option is a roughly 45-minute loop with a six-person golf cart, which can accommodate five visitors, driven by a trained Art Omi Staff member. In order to ensure staff and golf cart availability, we please ask that requests for Golf Cart Accessibility Loops be made at least two weeks in advance. Please call (518) 392-4747 for more information about scheduling an accessibility loop.
Kindly note, if you arrive without registering in advance we will do our best to accommodate requests for Golf Cart Accessibility Loops, but may be limited by our resources available on the day. For more information, please email info@artomi.org.
Cafe
Art Omi offers pastries and beverages on Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays year-round from 10 AM–4 PM inside the Benenson Visitors Center. From May through September, Art Omi is also partnering with Chatham Provisions on weekends to offer salads and sandwiches during opening hours. Visit our Cafe for a tasty treat or hearty sandwich to accompany your visit!
CLOSURES AND UPDATES
The Benenson Visitors Center, which houses the Newmark Gallery, the Visitors Services Desk, and restrooms closes periodically for staff development, Art Omi: Education Programming, inclement weather, or other events. The Sculpture & Architecture Park will always remain open daily from dawn until dusk for all 365 days a year. Please see our list of scheduled closures, which will also be notated on our registration page.
