I'm doing a project where I pick a specific theme within the LEGO Shop and find what I could add to the catalog.

I have decided to recreate the Helios head bust used in Vektroids' vaporwave album: "Macintosh Plus".

I have tried building the statue in real life with LEGO bricks just to get an idea of what it could look like, but right now it does not seem to be going well (by that I mean I have taken apart the bust into its original pieces because I wanted to see what other people have to say about building a head bust because I really do not wanna mess this project up).

Another thing to mention is that I will be trying to go into other details, like the mouth, eyes, that are supposed to go onto the sculpture.

Still, I am worried that those details may look proportionally out of place without pretty much exact measurements. Anyone got tips? (Sixth grader here by the way)

PS: For a reference, this is what im going for: Marble bust of statue

For additional info, here is the exact statue I am building for my project. Helios head bust

Here is a Reddit link that might help for additional information.

Here's my progress so far:

Not enough for a full answer, but most people design such complex MOCs using digital tools first, that allow them to experiment regardless of parts availability and physical constraints. If you can build your idea in a digital design tool, the translation to real bricks would be a lot simpler - and the design process can also be quicker (swapping out different submodules with a few clicks and keeping track of revisions is a game-changer). Independent from the method, you can just take the example model and tweak it to remove facial hair, soften edges using curves, etc. until you're satisfied. Commented Mar 19, 2025 at 13:47

Yeah good point. I was actually thinking of taking the actually head bust, which I have here at home, scanning it and then translating the scan to bricks. Of course, I could use other applications, but, to me thats probably most efficient. Unless there is a better solution, of course. Commented Mar 19, 2025 at 15:01

I was actually wondering if I can use a digital lego designer thingy (like studio or something) to construct the bust, would it be a good idea or not? Commented Mar 25, 2025 at 1:32

It is hard to beat the visceral experience of building with real pieces, but no one has all of the pieces in the digital LEGO CAD tools. Having the full part library available in every color is really powerful. Commented Mar 25, 2025 at 3:14
