Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. We reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation through meaningful action. As part of our ongoing learning, staff will participate this week in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by Santele's Healing Circles, which explores the historical and ongoing relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Through experiences like these, we seek to deepen our understanding and strengthen our ability to contribute to reconciliation. Supporting Indigenous reconciliation is a legislated part of BOF’s mandate and a responsibility that guides our work every day. Through the Indigenous Opportunities Financing Program and projects we finance, we strive to create opportunities that support long-term community well-being and economic participation. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are important opportunities for remembrance, reflection, and learning. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires continued listening, humility, and action. #NDTR #OrangeShirtDay
About us
Building Ontario Fund (BOF) is driven by our mission to unlock enduring public benefit through the design of innovative financing solutions with public, private, and Indigenous partners. To help build a resilient province for a quickly growing population and lay a solid foundation for future generations, our work focuses on transformative projects in six priority areas: affordable housing, long-term care, energy, affordable housing, transportation, municipal and community infrastructure, and critical minerals. Spanning all BOF’s priority areas is a commitment to increase Indigenous participation in large-scale infrastructure projects. A key component of this commitment is the Indigenous Opportunities Financing Program, the longest-running program of its kind in Canada, now administered by BOF. At BOF, we live our commitment to excellence, collaboration, and innovation in public infrastructure investment. Our success reflects our shared values: to act with integrity, be empowered and accountable, collaborate with common purpose, and lead with empathy and curiosity. BOF is an arms-length, board-governed Crown agency. To learn more about our work and team, visit: www.buildingonfund.ca.

Over the past two weeks Building Ontario Fund (BOF) has participated in numerous events alongside leaders representing major infrastructure projects, investment organizations and Indigenous communities, where one central question kept emerging: How do we crowd in private capital to deliver infrastructure projects that strengthen Ontario's economy and communities? Across every conversation, the message was consistent: attracting investment, delivering critical infrastructure, and creating long-term prosperity requires innovative financing, meaningful partnerships, and projects that generate lasting value for communities. Through catalytic investments and partnership-driven solutions, BOF is helping unlock revenue-generating infrastructure projects that will power our province’s future while creating opportunities for Indigenous communities, investors, and Ontarians. Thank you to the organizers and participants at the Scotiabank Fixed Income Forum, First Nations Energy and Economic Advancement Conference, SMR Forum, and the Responsible Investment Association for advancing important conversations about infrastructure investing, economic reconciliation and growth. Our investments in long-term care (LTC) facilities across Ontario illustrate how we are helping address different challenges in the sector. For example: The four LTC homes in rural Ontario being developed by Arch will deliver 576 beds and support ~400 jobs in the communities where the homes are being built. The Rekai Centres' Cherry Place in downtown Toronto will deliver 348 beds and create a modern campus featuring dementia care, a dialysis centre, a dedicated 2SLGBTQI+ Rainbow Wing, and a partnership with George Brown College to support PSW training. Together, these projects will deliver 924 new and redeveloped long-term care beds. These LTC investments demonstrate how innovative capital solutions can help bring critical community infrastructure projects from vision to reality. Whether the challenge is financing an urban project with a non-profit LTC provider, or advancing much-needed capacity in smaller communities, BOF is committed to partnering with operators and other partners to unlock infrastructure that improves quality of life for Ontario’s aging population. #SeniorsCare #LongTermCare #LTC #HealthcareInfrastructure #AgingInPlace #OntarioInfrastructure #CommunityCare #LongTermCareHomes #BuildingOntario
Thank you to the Yee Hong Centre For Geriatric Care for the opportunity to participate in your Board Strategy Retreat, including a thoughtful discussion about the future of seniors care in Ontario. It was a privilege to share the stage with Jamie Schlegel from Schlegel Villages, John Yip, MBA, ICD.D from SE Health, and Michael Lam from Toronto Community Housing. One theme that resonated in our conversation was the importance of helping people remain connected to their family, culture, and community as they age, whether through LTC facilities, seniors housing, home and community care, or integrated campus-of-care models. The session also reinforced the importance of strong partnerships, integrated models of care, and innovative investment approaches that help bring critical projects to life. At Building Ontario Fund, we're committed to helping unlock infrastructure projects that strengthen communities and improve quality of life for Ontarians, including the needs of an aging population. Thank you to the Yee Hong team and the Burnie Group for bringing together such a diverse and insightful group of leaders. #SeniorsCare #LongTermCare #LTC #AgingInPlace #HealthcareInfrastructure #Ontario #Infrastructure #CommunityCare

Yesterday’s discussion at the Canadian Apartment Investment Conference reinforced an important reality: solving Ontario's housing challenge will require innovation, partnership, and investment. BOF is focused on mobilizing capital, addressing financing barriers, and supporting projects that increase housing supply and affordability across the province. Thank you to our Chief Investment Officer, Anca Drexler, CFA, ICD.D, the conference organizers and all of the panelists for the thoughtful conversation. #HousingSupply #AffordableHousing #InfrastructureInvestment #Ontario
Thank you to Canadian Real Estate Forums at the 2026 Canadian Apartment Investment Conference for having me join the affordable housing panel this week. I appreciated the thoughtful discussion with my fellow panelists on the challenges facing rental and affordable housing, and the different roles that government, developers, lenders and investors can play. One theme that stood out is that there is no single solution to the housing challenge. Different projects face different constraints, and the opportunity is to bring the right combination of capital, policy and partnership to each situation. From BOF’s perspective, it means developing bespoke financing solutions that respond to specific project risks and economics, crowd in private capital, and help move viable housing projects forward. #CAIC #CRE #BOF #AffordableHousing #RentalHousing #HousingSupply #Investment

At Building Ontario Fund, we believe investing in people is just as important as investing in infrastructure. We were delighted to host Tanya van Biesen, CEO of VersaFi (formerly WCM), for a discussion with Alena Thouin and Anca Drexler, CFA, ICD.D on leadership, career development, and professional growth. The conversation reinforced that successful careers are often shaped by curiosity, resilience, strong relationships, and a willingness to embrace opportunities that may not fit a predetermined plan. As our speakers shared their experiences, one message stood out: growth happens when we continue learning, challenge ourselves, and remain open to new possibilities. Thank you to Tanya, Alena, and Anca for an engaging and insightful discussion with our team. #BuildingOntarioFund #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerGrowth #WorkplaceLearning #WomenInLeadership

Strong conversations and strong momentum for Ontario. At the recent Energy Frontier Summit in Park City, Utah, our CEO, Michael Fedchyshyn joined industry leaders to discuss why Ontario is attracting growing interest from infrastructure and energy investors across North America. With significant demand for new infrastructure and clean energy investment, Building Ontario Fund is working to make high-impact projects investable and help catalyze the capital needed to support the province's future growth. Thank you to CRC-IB, Canaccord Genuity Group Inc., and all participants for a thoughtful discussion on the opportunities ahead. #InvestInOntario #Infrastructure #EnergyTransition #CapitalMarkets
I recently joined industry leaders at the Energy Frontier Summit in Park City, Utah, hosted by CRC-IB & Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. With fellow panelists Thierry Nguyen, Pierre-Olivier Perras, and Colin Schmidt, CFA, we explored opportunities emerging at the intersection of Canadian infrastructure, energy, and cross-border capital. The message was clear: Ontario is one of North America's most attractive destinations for infrastructure investment and particularly in clean energy. With a growing economy, a 75% increase in energy demand by 2050, a stable regulatory and policy environment, and an investor-friendly energy procurement and contracting regime, the province is well positioned to attract global capital to help power its future growth. At Building Ontario Fund, we're helping turn that opportunity into action, partnering with public, private and Indigenous investors to make transformative projects investable and catalyzing investment in high-impact projects. Thank you to Canaccord Genuity and CRC-IB for bringing together such a strong group of industry leaders, and to my fellow panelists for an insightful discussion. Special thanks to Ayanna Nibbs for her leadership in delivering a fantastic event. #Infrastructurefinancing #CapitalMarkets #EnergyTransition #InvestinOntario

On July 2, BOF staff had the opportunity to visit the Woodland Cultural Centre to deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture and history. The visit provided valuable insights into the experiences of residential school survivors, the importance of truth and reconciliation, and meaningful ways to build respectful relationships. It also encouraged reflection on how we can work together to create a more inclusive and equitable future. As an organization, we remain committed to advancing economic reconciliation by supporting Indigenous ownership and participation in major projects that create sustainable, long-term economic opportunities for Indigenous communities.
