  • Over the past year, Longo’s has supercharged battery recycling through our partnership with Call2Recycle / Appel à Recycler Canada, and the impact is real! We were proud to receive the Leaders in Sustainability Award, recognizing our strong performance in battery collection and recycling. With Smart Recycling Containers now in 100% of our stores, Guests can easily recycle batteries while they shop.   In Q4 alone, we collected 1,926 kg of batteries, keeping nearly two tons of hazardous waste out of landfills and avoiding up to 4,000 kg of CO₂ emissions. Our annual total reached 7,693 kg, delivering an environmental impact equivalent to removing several cars from the road or growing over 200 trees for a decade!   Thanks to the collective efforts of our Team Members and Guests, Longo’s is making recycling easier, more accessible, and more impactful in the communities we serve.

This Earth Day, Longo's partnered with the U of T Trash Team to support a shoreline cleanup focused on microplastics. Despite cold and rainy conditions, 30 Team Members came together to make a meaningful impact. Working in teams across nine areas of the shoreline, volunteers collected 1,674 pieces of microplastics, helping protect local ecosystems and deepen their understanding of where this pollution comes from and why it matters. Beyond the cleanup itself, the day included hands‑on learning and conversations about microplastics and their environmental impact, making the experience both educational and rewarding. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your commitment to our communities and the environment truly made the day special.

70 years. One incredible journey. From our very first store in 1956 at 2497 Yonge St. in Toronto to our newest location at 1055 The Queensway in Etobicoke in 2026, the transition below tells a powerful story. What began 70 years ago as a family vision has grown into something truly special, while staying rooted in the same values that started it all: fresh produce, care, and a love for food and people. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re grateful to the Team Members, Guests, and communities who have been part of the Longo’s story, then and now.  Here’s to honouring our past, celebrating our present, and looking forward to what’s next.
