Jessica Burman shared thisI can’t fully express how grateful I am that my husband is still here today. It was nothing short of a miracle that Dylan Clarke — our CPR hero — happened to be passing by just as Lane collapsed in cardiac arrest. He kept him alive until paramedics arrived and restored his heartbeat with a defibrillator. At St. Mary’s Hospital, Lane received an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device that has saved his life multiple times since. What we later learned was life-changing: this was a genetic condition. Lane’s father, Dave, tragically passed away at 30 when Lane was only five, and at the time the cause wasn’t understood. Thanks to the knowledge and care of Lane’s medical team, our family was able to get tested and share that information. His sister — who carries the same gene — received her own ICD a few years ago, a step that ultimately saved her life as well. We are incredibly fortunate to live in a region with such skilled first responders, medical professionals, and access to advanced cardiac care. Their expertise, quick action, and commitment don’t just save one life — they change the future of entire families. Endlessly thankful. When time stood still – and life began again: Lane’s storyWhen time stood still – and life began again: Lane’s story

Jessica Burman posted thisLet’s talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention—how hard it is for Canadian women to access business financing. Even though women-led businesses are just as successful (if not more), the numbers are brutal. Less than 10% of venture capital and business loans go to women. The rest? You guessed it—men. And it’s not just banks and investors—women often face hesitation even from family and friends when asking for financial backing. It wasn’t until the 1970s that women could even get business loans without a male co-signer. That’s not ancient history—that’s our mothers and grandmothers. What’s wild is that women-led businesses have a higher success rate than those led by men. We do more with less. So why are we still scraping for crumbs when it comes to funding? Imagine the possibilities if we actually had equal access to capital. It’s time the financial world caught up. #WomenInBusiness #FundingGap #CanadianEntrepreneurs #EquityInFinance #SupportWomenFounders

Jessica Burman posted thisImporters. Can we talk about CARM? Are we really supposed to voluntarily log in through a sign in partner then a passcode sent to our emails to find out how much we owe every month but have no invoices to reference. Do I just add this task to my calendar? The only documents I could find on the portal are statements of account. I am searching for a transaction that I can't seem to locate. Are there other documents hiding somewhere?

Jessica Burman liked thisJessica Burman liked thisYesterday I had the privilege of speaking at Space Canada Horizons 2026 at the Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne headquarters in Longueuil. Thank you to Brian Gallant and the entire Space Canada | Espace Canada team for pulling together such a substantive day. And to Lisa Campbell and the CSA for hosting us — your leadership and commitment to Canadian space capacity was evident in every room. The core of my remarks: Canada has crossed the NATO 2% threshold for the first time since the Berlin Wall fell. But 2% is the floor, not the ceiling. The Hague Pledge sets a trajectory toward 5% by 2035 — and the 1.5% "security-related" basket covering cyber, AI, critical infrastructure, and space is where the real opportunity lies for Canadian industry. The Defence Industrial Strategy released earlier this year names Space Domain Awareness as a sovereign capability and establishes a Build–Partner–Buy hierarchy. That is a procurement signal. The companies that position themselves on the Build leg — rather than waiting to compete against U.S. primes on price — will be the ones that win in this window. The window is real. Let's not be the ones who watched it from outside. Grateful to the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) for the research foundation that informs this work — CIGI's ongoing focus on the intersection of technology, security, and governance is exactly what is needed to think clearly about how space fits into Canada's broader defence and digital posture. These conversations do not happen in a vacuum, and the policy analysis coming out of CIGI continues to shape how decision-makers understand the stakes. #SpaceCanada #CanadianSpace #Horizons2026 #Defence #SpacePolicy #CIGI #CanadaSpace

Jessica Burman liked thisJessica Burman liked thisJust another waste pick up day in Downtown Kitchener and it couldn’t look cleaner on a spring day. This clean urban streetscape is due to a cordinated and collaborate effort between multiple teams at the City of Kitchener, the waste management team at the Region of Waterloo, and our partners at the DTKBIA. Together we worked behind the scenes for months to ensure that a new waste management program was “rolled out” with care, thoughtfulness and foresight. I’m incredibly proud to have been able to be part of this project with so many dedicated people working towards a smooth transition and clear end goal. Together we have created a cleaner, more vibrant welcoming space for residents and visitors to enjoy and for our small businesses to thrive. Thank you to everyone who played a part in keeping our downtown looking its best. Even Oscar the Grouch would be proud.

Jessica Burman liked thisWhat a joy it is for me to see The Truth Beauty Company continue to be a destination for all things clean beauty. When I began the brand in 2010, I had no idea what I was building... Here we are 16 years later, so many founders I now call friends, so many industry contacts who share wisdom and guidance, employees who have become like family (Vivian Mirani looking at you!)... and a community that still adores what I set out to build. I am humbled with joy when I see Vivian be mentioned in such an incredible local publication to continue to raise awareness about the fabulous work that TBC does. Fun Fact: Toque Ltd. and I actually also go way back.... if you want a chuckle, just imagine me raving with its founder Chris Tiessen circa 1995. lol There is a wonderful thread through all this - it's connection. Open doors for yourself, but be sure to hold it for others too... you will be surprised by where everyone ends up and by the fabulous company you will surround yourself with. Way to go Viv and TBC team <3Jessica Burman liked thisWe’re proud to be featured in TOQUE Magazine. At The Truth Beauty Company, our focus has always been clear: intentional curation, deep product knowledge, and helping clients navigate the often overwhelming world of clean beauty with confidence. As the industry continues to grow, clarity and trust matter more than ever. Our role is not just to offer products, but to act as a guide — connecting clients with brands and formulations that truly align with their needs and values. We’re grateful to the TOQUE team for highlighting our approach, and for supporting local, independent businesses. Read the full feature here: https://lnkd.in/eRq_UjQy

Jessica Burman liked thisJessica Burman liked thisPleased to share that my piece on the growing legal scrutiny of social media platform design was published today in the San Francisco Chronicle and has now also been reprinted by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). In it, I argue that the recent verdicts involving Meta and YouTube may mark a turning point in how courts assess platform accountability, shifting the focus from what users post to what digital systems are designed to produce. Jessica Burman reacted on thisAnother attempted attack on a synagogue, including my hometown one in the last week. I don’t wear my Star of David jewellery any more because I am far too terrified of being attacked. It just continues, along with all other hate that continues to rise. As always, there no words but solidarity with all groups fighting the rise in rascism, misogyny, abuse, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism or any other kind of discrimination.
