Marcos Lopez shared thisExcited to be part of TechExit.io's first conference in Calgary — a chance for our community to hear stories directly from people who've built, scaled, and exited companies here. Join us for some candid conversations and behind-the-scenes experiences.Marcos Lopez shared thisSome business decisions are too important to learn through trial and error. When to raise, whether to entertain an offer, what a buyer will find when they open the books, whether an acquisition could accelerate growth, or whether it’s finally time to stop keeping every option open and choose a path. Those are the decisions shaping the TechExit.io Calgary agenda, and the room just got even stronger. We’re bringing together founders and operators who have lived through major growth and acquisition moments, including Marcos Lopez, S. Brett Durante, Bobbie Racette and Brian Heath, alongside voices like Brianna Blaney, Clayton Feick, Brendan King, Tate Hackert, Jody Conrad, MBA, Remi Schmaltz, Myles Shedden, Narbe Alexandrian and Michelle Scarborough, ICD.D. Add investors, advisors and dealmakers from across the ecosystem, plus the support of InterGen and our broader sponsor community, and October 1 becomes a room worth being in if any of these decisions could be in your future. Marcos Lopez reposted thisMarcos Lopez reposted thisWe're entering into a strategic partnership with EQ Bank, to help create one of Canada’s largest loyalty-linked banking ecosystems while offering Canadians even more benefits. The entire PC Financial team will be moving over to EQ Bank, which is a reflection of their strength and expertise in this space. Both EQ Bank and PC Financial were built on a promise to champion Canadians. As I see it, an even better experience is coming to customers. #PCFinancial #EQBank #livelifewell

Marcos Lopez reposted thisMarcos Lopez reposted thisEQ Bank | Equitable Bank’s announced agreement to acquire President's Choice Financial is a pivotal moment in our history. The transaction, which includes the PC Money Account, PC Insurance and PC Mastercard products, as well as a long-term agreement for EQ Bank to become the exclusive banking partner for Loblaw Companies Limited PC Optimum program – one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs beloved by more than 17 million people – will help us redefine what it means to be a challenger bank at scale. It’s a rare opportunity in the current banking landscape to bring two perfectly aligned product suites, teams and brands together that will undeniably create a better place to bank for today’s customers and all Canadians. And for us, it advances our growth strategy by reigniting our core franchise, puts us closer to achieving our full potential with a broader product shelf and expands our capabilities as the definitive challenger in Canadian banking. Subject to approvals, we’ll shift from digital to omnichannel, become one of Canada’s largest digital banks with EQB combined serving nearly 3.5 million customers, and we’ll build household awareness with tens of millions of Canadians with our partnership and PC Optimum. We’ll be able to integrate EQ Bank’s award-winning digital platform and unique product shelf with PC Financial’s powerful credit card portfolio and expertise in loyalty to create something no one else can offer: a challenger-powered, loyalty-linked banking ecosystem that can do more, and do it at scale. For more than 50 years, we’ve pushed to change banking for the better. We’ve proven many times over that it can be more innovative, fairer and more rewarding while still delivering powerful growth and value. This leverages the engine we’ve built over years to catapult us into a phase of acceleration entirely centred on creating more value and choice for Canadians. From a financial perspective, this combination meaningfully diversifies our business and sets a new pace for growth. It nearly doubles EQB’s annual revenue, is expected to be accretive to EPS and ROE in the first year post-close, expands our asset base and digital deposits, and extends our long-term runway for employees, customers and shareholders. And as we integrate, we see additional upside through funding efficiencies, cost synergies and cross-sell opportunities powered by our scaled customer base and the strength of PC Optimum’s loyalty ecosystem. The global banking landscape is changing, and as we look to the future, we’re confident that this will allow us to lead the banking revolution in Canada. I promise you that we’re just getting started. The future of banking in Canada is being rewritten, and we’re proud to lead that change. Marcos Lopez shared thisWell written article of CAWST and the important work it is taking on. A unique and empowering approach to helping more people with the tools and knowledge on how get access to clean water and sanitation. We can easily take for granted how important this basic need is and its impact on being able to thrive and advance.Marcos Lopez shared thisCAWST is featured in the Globe and Mail’s #PhilanthropyInCanada supplement. This annual insert promotes the importance of giving to charities in Canada through the Association of Fundraising Professionals. It was an opportunity to share more on CAWST’s model and why donors, like Marcos Lopez, have decided to come alongside our organization. We have a very ambitious goal – to reach 100 million people with better water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030. To make this goal a reality, we need the support of Canadian philanthropists to help catalyze action around the world. We know we can get there and are grateful for the support we have received to date. If this piques your interest, please read the The Globe and Mail article here and reach out to us. We’d love to connect with you. Read here: https://lnkd.in/gdYakiTz #EndTheWorldsWaterCrisis

Marcos Lopez posted thisI am excited share that I've joined the team at CreditApp. After an awesome journey building Solium into a global leader and its acquisition by Morgan Stanley, it was time to get back to my roots and build something again. I am excited to be working alongside Evan Ferguson, and an incredibly talented team, to bring a new approach to the lending and automotive finance industry. We look forward to enabling the industry through an open ecosystem that invites partners and clients to re-imagine what is possible - liberating them from the constraints that have stifled innovation and encumbered consumers. LET'S GO!

Marcos Lopez liked thisMarcos Lopez liked this“Businesses get bought, not sold.” That was Marcos Lopez’s message as he opened #TechExitCalgary this morning alongside Sandi Gilbert, CEO of InterGen. Sandi set the stage with another idea we’ll be watching throughout the day: the ecosystem flywheel created by successful exits. When founders, early employees and investors gain liquidity, that capital and experience can be recycled back into the ecosystem, funding and supporting the next generation of companies. Marcos’ own journey building Solium, which was ultimately acquired by Morgan Stanley, was anything but a straight line. There were peaks and valleys. The focus throughout was simpler: build a good business. That sets up an interesting question for the day ahead. If an exit is something you want to have available tomorrow, what decisions should you be making today to create that option? Across TechExit.io Calgary, we’re digging into exactly that: capital, acquisitions, diligence, defensibility, earn-outs and what actually happens after the deal closes. Thank you to our title sponsor InterGen, and to Sandi for helping bring TechExit.io to the Prairies.

Marcos Lopez liked thisMarcos Lopez liked thisToday, I'm thrilled to share Freddie's next chapter: PurposeMed, the company behind Freddie is joining Grindr When we started Freddie six years ago, the goal was simple: give the 2SLGBTQ+ community the sexual healthcare it deserves. Care that's affirming, judgement-free, and easy to access. Today, more than 27,000 people are on PrEP with Freddie across Canada and the US, and we're on track to prevent one case of HIV every day. But as our partners at Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., Inc. remind us, there are more than 20 million people around the world who should be on PrEP. That number stays with me. It keeps bringing me back to the same questions. How can we move faster? How can we do more? How can we reach more people? Working with Grindr over the past year as their exclusive PrEP telehealth partner started to answer those questions. The more time we spent with their team, the clearer it became that we're better together. We deliver 11/10 care, Grindr has built the world's largest LGBTQ+ community, and we share the same mission. They speak our language. To our patients: you trust us with your health, and that doesn't change. The quality of your care and the protection of your privacy stay exactly the same. None of this happens without the people who built it with me. Pete MacLeod, Amaan Banwait, and Caley Shukalek, thank you for believing in this from day one and for carrying it through every hard moment along the way. And to every PurposeMedian, thank you for bringing passion and heart to every patient interaction. This milestone is yours. I also want to thank George Arison, John North, and AJ Balance for your partnership over the last few months and in this transaction. It's been fantastic getting to know each of you and the whole Grindr team, we're excited to start building together! We're just getting started. Thank you for joining us on the journey to end the HIV epidemic. Learn more about today's announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gA2satTH

Marcos Lopez liked thisMarcos Lopez liked thisWhat if the next shopper at your dealership was already flagged as a fraud risk somewhere else? That’s exactly what happened here. One dealership caught a fraudulent shopper and reported them to the CreditApp Registry. Six weeks later, the same shopper tried again at another dealership 40 km away. This time, the warning was already there. The two dealerships had never even spoken to each other. But a report from one gave the other the heads up they needed. The CreditApp Registry checks your shoppers against suspicious shopper reports and recently funded loans from dealers and lenders across Canada, so your team can get warned when a shopper has already raised red flags somewhere else. Marcos Lopez liked thisMarcos Lopez liked thisHere’s a $100K reason why your fraud protection needs more than IDV. A Bronco Raptor almost left the lot on a fraudulent deal. The ID was real. The lender had approved the loan. But DealFlow Pro’s phone verification came back with high risk signals: a burner phone, multiple numbers and a mule account. The team at Super Dave’s Auto Group dug deeper, asked more questions and requested a second piece of ID. The buyer’s story fell apart, and the Bronco Raptor stayed on the lot. We know you’re not going to catch every type of fraud with IDV alone. That’s why DealFlow Pro gives your team more to go on with ID verification, phone verification and a CreditApp Registry check on every deal. Marcos Lopez liked thisMarcos Lopez liked this25 years ago today, I was on my way to write my Series 7 exam, one of the U.S. licences required to work in finance. Hard to believe it’s been that long. The majority of my group was writing it in Midtown, but due to a small mixup, I was writing it downtown. I got there on time. I was extremely nervous. I got through about three questions when the adjudicator came over the loudspeaker and said that there had been a bomb at the World Trade Centre. Everything was under control and we could keep writing the test. Two minutes later, we heard a police car in the streets a few levels below, yelling at everybody to get out of the way. At this point, everybody got their stuff and started to leave as fast as they could. We were only a few level levels up so we headed for the stairs. When we got to the ground floor, we heard the noise from the second plane hitting the tower and we started to run. We weren’t far from the office where I had been a summer student the year before and I had just started working full-time, so I headed there. I remember running into a fellow Canadian named Jon Dorfman and we kept moving from 1 NY Plaza, to FDR Drive. Everyone was helping people along the way. Everyone was covered in dust and debris. As we moved up the highway, past the Brooklyn Bridge, we got a clear view of the towers and what remained. I’ll never forget that moment. Because of what was lost. And because of how little we realized the world would change from that moment on. My thoughts are with everyone who lost someone that day. I got to walk home that day. I write this for everyone who didn’t. Never forget. **** I bought the attached framed photo when I was a summer student in New York in 2000. It’s been with me everywhere I’ve lived ever since.

Canada is in dire need of energy creation for major projects. We have forecasted this for a robust economy and a boost to our GDP. The clearest examples of course is #AI development. This was at the centre of a conversation I had this week with Pamela Hamblin, who has spent 28 years in energy, microgrids, and data-centre power infrastructure. Boardy connected us, and within a few minutes we were deep into a thought-provoking and profound conversation. Hyperscale AI data centres ask an enormous amount of the grid, and we don't have that capacity sitting around. There is a real education moment here, helping the public understand what these projects need, and what closed-loop systems and microgrids can actually offer. Indigenous nations are not on the sidelines of this. We hold the land, the relationships, and the environmental view these projects depend on. Indigenous support for sustainable solutions and energy efficiency is paramount for the developers bringing them to life. Grateful for the conversation, Pamela. We have much more to explore. I greatly value your insights, expertise and relationships. #indigenous #keepgoing #energy #grid #capacity #partnerships #unity #iifc #majorprojects https://lnkd.in/gM45pCUB

Canada's banking landscape is transforming rapidly! With firm regulatory deadlines for the Real-Time Rail (RTR) rollout and Open Banking Write Access (mid-2027), immediate, API-driven core capabilities are no longer optional. For Financial Institutions relying on highly stable but fundamentally batch-based core systems, a full "rip-and-replace" is often too risky and slow. The solution is the Digital Twin (DTW) architecture. It provides a modern, real-time layer that mirrors your core ledger, allowing you to: 💠Launch RTR & Open Banking: Deliver compliant, instant services without core disruption. 💠Ensure Stability: Preserve your mainframe for back-office tasks while the DTW handles all real-time transaction demands. Don't wait until 2026 to begin the implementation necessary to meet the mid-2027 deadline. The time for defining your modernization path is now.
