A great question that made me reflect on some points that I want to share: 💪 Have Courage: Engaging in courageous conversations often requires stepping out of your comfort zone. Your willingness to address the issue is a strength. It shows your commitment to fostering a healthy dialogue. 🎯 Focus on your intentions: Your goal is to communicate openly and honestly. While you cannot control the other person's response, you can control your approach. Stay focused on your intentions to resolve the tension rather than the outcome. 😌 Practice Vulnerability: Sharing your thoughts and feelings authentically can create a safe space for dialogue. By being vulnerable, you invite the other person to do the same, which can lead to a more productive conversation. 🖐 Set Boundaries: If the other person is unwilling to engage, it’s essential to set boundaries for your own well-being. You can express your desire to resolve the issue while acknowledging that you cannot force collaboration. 🤓 Reflect and Learn: Every conversation is an opportunity for growth. Take time to reflect on what you learned from the experience, regardless of the outcome. This reflection can strengthen your skills for future discussions. You are not responsible for how others react, but you are responsible for how you choose to engage. Stay positive, stay professional, and keep the lines of communication open!

It reminded me why sharing our own stories matters so much, and why Laura and I were so excited to have the conversation we did with Julie. We shared our own truths - the mirror moments that woke us up, the real questions we had to ask ourselves, and some of the things that were honestly a little scary at first to say out loud. Because the reality is, you never know what someone else might need to hear. Maybe it's to know she's absolutely not alone. Maybe it's to feel permission to say that thing out loud that feels scary. If you’ve come across brands like Panadol, Centrum and Sensodyne, then you’ve come across some of the brands she’s nurtured! Our recent catch-up was all too brief… but we still managed to cover a wealth of topics: from the ever-expanding breadth of what great marketing and growth leaders focus on, the art of predicting consumer behaviours, to women’s health and our lifelong passion for sports. One thread that really resonated with me was HOW Tamara has been able to drive REAL change with her brands. She has consistently focused on one of the most important, and often misunderstood (and at times, deprioritized) elements of marketing and growth transformations… change management. She shared some of the secrets of her success for how to embed true change: 1. Ensure Marketing shapes the broader growth agenda: focus on rewiring marketing roles to create more “joined up thinking” across the business, while ensuring other functions are aligned to shared goals. 2. Be bold and co-create what marketing excellence looks like: challenge traditional operating models to orient around the consumer – integrating demand led growth, digital commerce, modern measurement and working with leaders across the business to articulate what it means for them. 3. Embed brand-building as “a lifeblood capability”... and not just in marketing: lift the abilities of everyone in the company to unlock returns - start by authoring the “unified growth philosophy” that puts consumers at the centre of every growth choice, and weave that into every end-to-end process. Watching him walk into that room and pitch what he's built is a moment I will never forget. Friedrich joined Bayer in 2021 and previously served as Vice President, Global Head of Cardiovascular Strategy, Portfolio & Digital Innovation in Berlin before becoming Country President and General Manager of Pharmaceuticals in Canada in 2023. In her new role, she will oversee Bayer Inc.’s corporate governance across its Canadian Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health, Radiology and supporting functions.

CFIA Fines Loblaw for Misleading Canadian Origin Claims Amid Ongoing Sobeys Investigation. A marketer's view and how honesty impacts brand trust. Honesty is the first value consumers expect from brands — it’s the foundation of trust. That’s why I’m a big fan of Loblaw Companies Limited as a retailer. Their commitment to quality and service has earned my loyalty over the years. However, recent news of Loblaw stores being fined for misrepresenting imported products as Canadian-made is disappointing. Misusing the “Canadian Made” label is not just a regulatory issue — it’s a breach of the honesty consumers expect from trusted brands. Honesty builds trust; misrepresentation breaks it. If we want to support Canadian businesses genuinely, brands must reflect that honesty in every detail. I hope Loblaw—and all retailers—take this seriously and uphold the first value every consumer looks for: honesty. Misleading claims won’t win anyone’s trust or loyalty. Here are the highlights of the article that prompted my reflection. (The full article can be found below) Canada’s food regulator, the CFIA, is intensifying enforcement against grocery stores that falsely promote imported food products as Canadian-made. Loblaw has already faced two $10,000 fines for such violations, and Sobeys is under investigation for similar practices. This crackdown follows widespread consumer demand for honest labeling in support of the Buy Canadian movement. 1️⃣ CFIA Enforcement Increases: Loblaw stores were fined $10,000 each for misrepresenting imported products (French cheese and American broccoli slaw) as Canadian, signaling an end to previous leniency on country-of-origin labeling violations. 2️⃣ Sobeys Under Investigation: The CFIA is investigating Sobeys after discovering imported products with misleading Canadian symbols and claims, such as Compliments avocado oil and other house-brand items falsely branded as “made in Canada.” 3️⃣ Consumer Expectations and Regulatory Response: The CFIA emphasizes that food product labels and signage must be accurate and not misleading. With 78 violations identified since late 2024, the agency is now imposing fines and considering stricter penalties, reflecting consumer demand for honest representation of product origins.
