In the room with @AlisonPreiss at #SocialNextToronto. Re: Your team might be your best marketing channel. Employee-driven storytelling, real voices, personality up front and services quietly along for the ride. Platforms are already picking winners here. Instagram favours real/raw perspectives over polished. And in Canada, nobody wants to feel like they're being sold to anyway. 46% of Gen Z and 35% of Millennials prefer social search. They are looking for themselves in the content, not a logo. Ties back to a lot of what I have been writing about around social trust. It's playing out in real time. #SocialNextToronto #Marketing #Authenticity #EmployeeAdvocacy

Building Ontario Fund

Andrew Cole has always had a way with words, using his storytelling skills to make an impact. As a senior communications specialist at Building Ontario Fund (BOF), Andrew supports project announcements, media outreach, stakeholder communications, and social media campaigns. He helps tell the story of how Ontario is building for the future and investing in critical infrastructure that contributes to its economy and supports communities around the province. “Our team makes public financing relevant and engaging, talking about the partnerships we develop and sharing the public benefits our investments create,” he shared. One of the first announcements Andrew supported was the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP), in which BOF is investing up to $1 billion to help finance the G7’s first grid-scale Small Modular Reactor (SMR). “It was incredible to support an event where both the Premier and Prime Minister spoke about the importance of this project for the province and the country. The best part was that it was the culmination of a lot of teamwork within and outside BOF.” Before work, Andrew gets up at the crack of dawn to run or take part in high-intensity interval training at Orange Theory. “I love staying active by working out, running, doing yoga and Pilates, really anything to keep me moving. When the weather allows, I like to putter in my garden and go on hikes with my family,” he shared. “I’d say I’m happiest when I’m cooking for my family and friends, or checking out a concert or stand-up comedy show.” He’s also a world traveller, having lived in or visited almost 30 countries, and loves connecting through food. “I’m originally from South Africa where braais (i.e. BBQ) and rugby go hand-in-hand. If I can join mates for some lamb chops and a coil of boerewors (sausage), while watching the back-to-back world champion Springboks (South Africa’s national rugby team) play, that’s perfection,” he said. BOF’s collaborative and forward-thinking workplace culture is what Andrew enjoys most about working here. “Everyone is committed to making a tangible impact, and there’s a strong sense of purpose in the work we do. It’s motivating to be part of a team that values communications and is open to innovative ideas as we share our high-impact investments,” he shared. “I’ve had opportunities to collaborate with experts across sectors, which has broadened my perspective on how government functions, as well as how we are working with Indigenous partners to accomplish economic reconciliation in the province.”

Stop trying to sell products. Start selling stories that understand them. For too long, brands just pushed promises of perfection and convenience. But the power has shifted. Women aren't listening to what brands say anymore. One important thing that transforms attention into true connection is empathy. Brands like Laurier, Wardah, and Lovepink proved it. When you get her struggles, she stops just buying. She starts belonging. So, do you wanna turn your sales into a real connection? Swipe to learn how these brands win!

Ontario’s World Series ad didn’t go viral because of money. It worked because it hit the sweet spot of timing, tone, and context. A single, emotional message during a major cultural event sparked headlines and conversation worldwide. For small businesses and nonprofits, the lesson’s clear: ✅ Don’t chase every trend. ✅ Anchor your story to moments people already care about. ✅ Lead with emotion, not algorithms. When the timing is right, your message doesn’t just reach - it resonates. #MarketingStrategy #BrandStorytelling #NonprofitMarketing #SmallBusinessGrowth #CakewalkSocial
