🍁 Canada has taken an important step toward opening its carbon removal industry to international buyers. The government is exploring how carbon removal projects in Canada could generate credits that companies and countries around the world can purchase. For Climeworks, this sends an encouraging signal of the country's ambition in high-quality carbon removal. Read more in Carbon Herald: https://lnkd.in/dQhmWGTQ

🎥 And that’s a wrap! 5 days. 7 co-hosted events. +160 climate and business leaders. And conversations that went far beyond carbon removal. Across the week, one question was at the heart of our conversations: where can carbon removal make a difference? From complementing deep emissions reductions on the path to net zero, to supporting the responsible growth of AI, one thing became clear: carbon removal is no longer a topic confined to climate circles. It is increasingly becoming part of the conversation wherever long-term resilience is being shaped, at the intersection of climate, technology, public health, business, and society. We were honored to welcome an outstanding group of speakers and partners, including Tansy Stobart (BMO), Stacy Kauk, P.Eng. (Isometric), Masa Takanashi (SMBC Group), Elias Habbar-Baylac (Cisco), Rae Hegarty (Sustainable Markets Initiative), and Adrian Siegrist (Climeworks). A special thank you to our co-hosts and partners, including WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, NTT DATA, National Academy of Medicine, Sustainable Markets Initiative, and Isometric, for the support in making these conversations possible. Here are a few highlights from the week 👇 #ClimateWeekNYC #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #Climeworks

As climate risks move from sustainability reports to boardroom agendas, we're keen to hear how business leaders are turning climate ambition into business action. Looking forward to hearing insights from Antje Kanngiesser, Helmut Ruhl, Roger Basler, and our Co-Founder & Co-CEO Jan Wurzbacher, moderated by Ursula Finsterwald. Alongside the leadership discussion, we'll also share a behind-the-scenes look at the technology behind climate action through a tour of our DAC Innovation Center, guided by our colleague Christian Sutter, Head of Partnerships Switzerland. We're delighted to host this ESG4Boards gathering and welcome attendees together with Saskia Günther. See you next week!
🔥 40°C+ outside. A 30-year strategy inside. The climate is heating up and so is the conversation around who’s responsible for steering through it... On 29 September, we’re heading inside Climeworks’ Direct Air Capture Innovation Center in Zurich for a rare chance to step into one of the world's most groundbreaking climate technology sites. But beyond the technology, we’ll explore a fundamental question: Will the climate transition succeed because of the Board OR because of the CEO? Following this #summer #heatwave, climate change stopped feeling like a future scenario. The 2026 heatwave brought it straight onto the corporate agenda: raising urgent questions about resilience, competitiveness, infrastructure, and ownership of responsibility. We can't wait to welcome our community for an evening that promises to generate real heat in the only right ways, featuring a keynote from Cyril Brunner, leading climate scientist at ETH Zürich and a fireside debate with some of Switzerland's most respected CEOs: • Jan Wurzbacher, Co-Founder & Co-CEO, Climeworks • Antje Kanngiesser, CEO, Alpiq Group • Helmut Ruhl, CEO, AMAG Group • Roger Basler, CEO, Meier Tobler Moderated by Ursula Finsterwald, Head of Group Sustainability Management, LGT Private Banking and Board Member, ESG4Boards. Thank you to the powerhouses organising our Autumn Meet 2026: Saskia Günther, Christoph Sutter & our Managing Board.

Today, Climeworks and Japan Airlines announce a landmark agreement to help advance the role of carbon removal in aviation, with the procurement of a carbon removal portfolio designed to meet ICAO CORSIA requirements. As aviation works toward net-zero emissions, carbon removal will play an increasingly important role in addressing residual emissions. Through this agreement, Japan Airlines is helping explore how high-integrity carbon removals can complement broader decarbonization efforts across the sector. The portfolio sourced by Climeworks Solutions will include multiple carbon removal pathways that meet CORSIA requirements, alongside Direct Air Capture credits that support the long-term scale-up of durable carbon removal. An important moment for aviation, compliance markets, and the future scale-up of carbon removal. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/exVwsDc9

From Iceland to Saudi Arabia... and now Canada! 🍁 One of the biggest challenges in Direct Air Capture is that every location is different. Temperature, humidity, wind, and air composition all affect how systems perform. That's why we built our Mobile Test Facility: a first-of-its-kind containerized DAC testing unit that can travel wherever we need to learn. Over the past two years, it has supported testing campaigns across very different climates, helping our teams validate performance, accelerate learning, and improve future system designs. After a pit stop in Zurich for maintenance and upgrades, the facility is now on its way to Canada for its next testing campaign. Because breakthrough technologies don't scale by staying in the lab only. They scale by learning in the real world. More updates from Canada soon. 🌎 A big thank you to everyone involved in getting the facility ready for the next adventure. Climate Week NYC kicks off next week amid growing momentum for carbon removal. Our teams across the US and Canada have had a front-row seat to a market that is rapidly maturing. More companies across industries are entering the market, while standards are crystallizing and organizations are paying closer attention to securing high-quality removals, often years in advance. As we head to New York next week, we're excited to be part of the conversations shaping what is next. Our latest report explores the trends shaping the carbon removal market across North America, covering buyers, project developers, and the policy frameworks influencing market development. We hope it provides useful context for the discussions ahead. Access the report here: https://lnkd.in/eecyyGTW #ClimateWeekNY

Breakthrough technologies mature through real world operation. Over the past 18 months, we've achieved significant progress at Mammoth. Improvements to our technology and operations have more than doubled CO₂ capture performance in upgraded collector containers, achieving their intended design run rates under real-world conditions, and reducing operating costs by more than 50%. In a new op-ed, Jan Wurzbacher, co-founder and co-CEO of Climeworks, shares what we've learned from operating Mammoth and how these insights are helping improve performance, reduce costs, and accelerate the next generation of direct air capture technology.
