What is my why? Reflecting on Chartered Teacher Status through the lens of middle leadership

What is my why? Reflecting on Chartered Teacher Status through the lens of middle leadership

One of the opportunities that comes with middle leadership is the chance to look at familiar elements of teaching and learning through a different lens. While we continue to ask questions about our own classroom practice, our leadership responsibilities can encourage us to think more broadly. For instance, we may start to consider how different approaches work in different contexts, how the choices we make shape the curriculum, or what impact our more strategic decisions have on students, both in our own classrooms and beyond. Looking at our practice through these different perspectives can lead us to question things we might not have considered as classroom teachers, creating new opportunities to explore, reflect and learn. This can be a powerful starting point for meaningful professional learning.

I have worked in education for 20 years. I have been a teacher, a senior leader and a deputy headteacher. I have spent much of my career telling young people that they have the power to make a difference I never imagined that one day I would be asking schools to help me make a difference in memory of my husband.

An international, multi-disciplinary team has come together to produce research-informed songs that bring foundational mathematical concepts to life for children aged 3–6. This pioneering approach, drawing on co-design and knowledge brokering, offers educators, families, and early childhood settings a fresh, evidence-based way to encourage mathematical thinking through music.
