Home » Make it with Mango » Mango Cutting Techniques
History suggests that mangos originated in Southeast Asia and India, where references to the fruit are documented in Hindu writings that date back to 4,000 B.C. Mango seeds traveled with humans to areas in the world with the tropical climates necessary for the mango tree to thrive, beginning around 300 or 400 A.D.
When receiving fresh mangos check that the ripeness level matches your intended use. Mangos can be used across the ripeness spectrum from unripe “green” mangos with a crisp texture and tart flavor to juicy, sweet fully ripe mangos.
Step 1 – Locate the flat seed in the center of the mango.
Step 2 – Cut a sliver off the stem end to steady the mango.
Step 3 – Use a knife or peeler to remove the skin.
Step 4 – Cut the cheeks away from the flat side of the seed.
Step 5 – Cut the cheeks for the intended use, and trim the remaining fruit from around the seed.
