Hi Rose Abrams,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:World map of opinions on Xinjiang camps.svg is out of date. “In January 2020, the Bahrain Council of Representatives called on the international community to protect Uyghur Muslims in China and "expressed deep concern over the inhumane and painful conditions to which Uyghur Muslims in China are subjected,”, hence their position seems unclear; Their neighbor state Qatar withdrew support too. Could you update it? Thanks again. Geographyinitiative (talk) 08:29, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Geographyinitiative: Donepartially. I coloured Bahrain red, but Qatar was already grey.

Hi Rose Abrams,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:World map of opinions on Xinjiang camps.svg is out of date. Is Taiwan really a "Governments that has not diplomatically expressed an opinion on Xinjiang re-education camps"? Is the Bahrain Council opinion enough to overturn the diplomatic position from 2019? Could you update it? Thanks again. Geographyinitiative (talk) 09:06, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for working on it. I outline further opinions here [1] I am raising legitimate questions that lead to all kinds of changes to the map, which is concerning given I am not an expert in this subject matter. Geographyinitiative (talk) 09:11, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hi Rose Abrams, I noticed you uploaded File:LDS Endowment infographic at the veil.png. I’m concerned it may depict sensitive details of the LDS temple veil ceremony, which is considered sacred and private by the LDS Church. This could violate Wikimedia Commons’ COM:DIGNITY policy. Would you consider removing it or replacing it with a less sensitive image? Thanks for discussing. Edohi1991 (talk) 19:03, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anything in COM:DIGNITY that "sensitive details" about something "sacred and private" should not be present on Commons. I instead see the policy of COM:NOTCENSORED that material "will not be deleted solely on the grounds ... that it may cause offence to you or others, for moral, personal, religious, social, or other reasons". The Wikimedia Foundation is not affiliated with the LDS Church and therefore not bound by its rules set out for its members. Nothing (that I am aware of) in United States law (under which Wikimedia operates) prohibits depiction of activities that a religious organization considers sacred. Explaining such rituals are however educational, which is the objective of the Wiki movement. Rose Abrams (talk) 06:04, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi Rose Abrams,
Thank you for your thoughtful response and for your perspective. I agree that COM:NOTCENSORED allows educational content even if it’s controversial, and I appreciate the image’s intent to illustrate the historical parallels between Mormonism and Freemasonry, which aligns with COM:SCOPE. I also understand that Wikimedia isn’t bound by LDS Church rules, and U.S. law doesn’t prohibit the depiction of sacred rituals.
My concern is that the image may depict specific details of the LDS veil ceremony that LDS members are religiously obligated to keep confidential, which could be seen as disrespectful to their community under COM:DIGNITY. While COM:DIGNITY doesn’t explicitly address sacred rituals, it does emphasize respect for group values, and similar concerns have led to image removals in other cases. I’m not suggesting censorship but wondering if a more respectful image could achieve the same educational goal without potentially offending LDS members. I would also note that COM:NOTCENSORED is not absolute—it is balanced against policies like COM:SCOPE (educational purpose) and COM:DIGNITY.
Thanks for taking the time to engage with me on this.

Thanks for uploading File:Pink Programming comm photo 01.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:MrBeastification example thumbnail 03.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)
This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Copyrighted assets (characters) from the video game Red Dead Redemption 2
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hello Rose,
Thank you for all your work. I noticed that you mass-moved hundreds of my recently uploaded photos from the
Wiki Photo Africa
category to
Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2025 in Nigeria
. I’m not sure why this was done, as these photos are not related to the Wiki Loves Africa 2025 campaign. They were part of a Wiki Photo Africa intervention and were intentionally uploaded under that category.
I would appreciate it if this could be reverted, as keeping them under the Wiki Loves Africa 2025 category is misleading as the themes are entirely different. Unfortunately, I do not have the rights to perform a mass revert myself.
Thank you again for your support and understanding. MediaMOF (talk) 12:23, 11 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@MediaMOF I'm really really sorry! I did it because I believed the article's name was a mis-phrasing of "Wiki Loves Africa", since the category page "Wiki Photo Africa" was red and thus not created. I have reprocessed the images back now. Sorry again! Rose Abrams (talk) 12:34, 11 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Rose. I saw your speedy deletion for this category that you yourself created. It looks like the files in it were put into this incorrectly-named category, and you wanted them to go into the correctly-named one. I'll go ahead and move the files, but is there a reason that you didn't just move the files without creating this category? That would be simpler than creating a category that we know will be deleted. -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:15, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't really consider me "creating" the category since it was already populated with files, so although it involved a page creation I more saw it as highlighting the category's members for moving. I discover categories like this regularly since I make a habit to patrol Special:WantedCategories. But you're right that it's quicker and easier for all parties if I move the members myself, so I'll try to remember that next time. Thanks for pointing it out!👍 Rose Abrams (talk) 15:35, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
