1There are some "raw cookie dough" recipes that call for baking the flour for some time to pasteurize it. I wonder if you could do something similarJoe– Joe2026-04-28 18:33:12 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

11BTW - nitpick from a scientist... its E. coli, not E-Coli because the E. bit is an abbreviation for Escherichia. Scientific names also use capital letters on genus names and lower case on species name. Escherichia is the genus, coli is the species. To be proper, species and genus names should also be italicized or underlined, but that's just extra nitpicking...bob1– bob12026-04-28 20:45:51 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

In looking up "spice sterilization", I found a few sites selling machinery to do some sort of high pressure steam for sterilization of spices, herbs, and grains... which makes me think that a pressure cooker might be a possibility. (I would put open containers of spices in the pressure cooker with the water below them)Joe– Joe2026-04-29 13:58:31 +00:00Commented yesterday

1“I assume this is down to an increase in E. coli contamination* — I’d would have assumed the opposite, that this was a matter of stricter labelling, with the actual risk unchanged or reduced (since food safety standards have generally improved over time both in regulation and in practice).PLL– PLL2026-04-29 17:20:15 +00:00Commented yesterday

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. food-safety), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
