CORRECTIONS

What changed,
and why.

This log records corrections to published guide claims. Each entry links to the affected guide and separates the former statement from what the retained evidence supports.

  1. Three Costa Coffee items are no longer confirmed as vegan

    What the site said
Costa Coffee's menu data listed Milk Babyccino, All Butter Jammy Shortbread and Mini All Butter Shortbreads as suitable for vegans.
    What the evidence supported
Mini All Butter Shortbreads lists butter (milk). The current Milk Babyccino page identifies milk as the standard ingredient, while the All Butter Jammy Shortbread item page is unavailable; the retained information does not support confirming any of the three as vegan.
    What changed
All three foods are withheld from the confirmed vegan list. We are rechecking the other Costa items listed as vegan against their published ingredient information.
    Check against a repeat
A menu designation does not override an item's ingredient information or establish vegan status when the available item evidence is insufficient.
  2. Reader diet scope narrowed to three questions

    What the site said
The reader contract included no-beef and no-pork as dietary guide categories, with a halal boundary paragraph.
    What the evidence supported
Those categories describe religious or cultural observance rather than the animal-ethics proposition of this site.
    What changed
The guide chooser and reader contract now cover vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian questions only. The scope rationale is recorded in the reader contract.
    Check against a repeat
The shared template's single DIETS list defines the chooser options and rendered panels, so the retired categories are not offered.
  3. Previously understated UK menu designations are now shown at item level

    What the site said
The guide answers did not reflect retained positive item-level designations, leaving these pages more negative than their evidence supported.
    What the evidence supported
The retained sources designate PizzaExpress's Vegan Margherita; Gourmet Burger Kitchen's THE BEYOND® & CHEESE, CLASSIC VEGAN and CALIFORNIAN; and Wagamama's spicy smashed cucumber and wok-fried greens. The source records do not establish that every menu item is suitable.
    What changed
The shared template now names the supported items and keeps the recorded state Incomplete rather than implying menu-wide coverage.
    Check against a repeat
Confirmed items are rendered only from positive item statuses with a non-none evidence basis; the answer is composed from the recorded state and those rows.
  4. Chick-fil-A's archived vegan-friendly list is no longer treated as current item evidence

    What the site said
The live answer said: “At Chick-fil-A you can order a Fruit Cup, Hashbrowns, Waffle Potato Fries, any entree salad except Cobb without chicken or cheese, or a Cool Wrap without chicken or cheese, all of which are on the chain's official vegan-friendly list.”
    What the evidence supported
The retained current item-coverage record preserves those names only: all five rows have basis none and vegan status unknown. The FAQ wording captured on 3 August 2026 is retained for provenance, not current item-level support.
    What changed
The guide no longer confirms any of those items from the archived wording and states the limit of the retained evidence.
    Check against a repeat
Only positive-status rows with a non-none evidence basis enter the confirmed list; the archived FAQ is not treated as current item-level evidence.
  5. PizzaExpress's designation note is limited to item-level evidence

    What the site said
A designation note said “every retained row is marked by the first-party applied vegan designation” even though the cited excerpt contained only a “VEGAN DISHES” heading and cross-contact warning, with no named rows.
    What the evidence supported
That excerpt did not support any named item. A separate retained June 2026 allergen guide later showed a Vegan column and a check beside Vegan Margherita; it supports that named item, not the blanket note.
    What changed
The blanket designation note was removed. The guide now attaches the vegan designation to Vegan Margherita alone and does not extend it to unmarked rows.
    Check against a repeat
The template requires a positive item status with a non-none evidence basis before a row appears under What you can order; excerpts are restricted to a mark or matrix claim.
  6. Newk's Garden Salad is not presented as a confirmed vegan item

    What the site said
The guide included “Garden Salad (veganized)” as a veganized candidate.
    What the evidence supported
The official item description lists cheddar cheese and croutons. The separate Vegetarian-Friendly marker does not designate the salad vegan; the retained record does not confirm a vegan base or dressing.
    What changed
The shared template does not promote the salad as a confirmed vegan item. Any possible modification remains a specific question, not a menu claim.
    Check against a repeat
Only rows with positive vegan status and a non-none evidence basis enter the confirmed list; a vegetarian-only mark does not establish vegan status.
