Dirk Voeste hat dies geteiltWhat I value most about Climate Week NYC is the opportunity to bring together people who genuinely create change. During the many discussions, events, and perspectives, a message stood out for me in conversations with partners and stakeholders across industries: Progress happens when collaboration turns into action. It was great to continue this conversation with Dr. Eva Riesenhuber (Siemens) following our discussion on circularity at Solutions House (Futerra). The transition to a #CircularEconomy is one of the most significant transformations we are in. It is a challenge that can’t be solved by technology, regulation, or individual companies alone. It requires strong partnerships across value chains. It requires openness, trust, and a willingness to think beyond organizational boundaries. And it requires ultimately partners working together towards the same goal. What is positive for me is that I see exactly this mindset gaining momentum. More organizations are moving from talking about circularity to building solutions together. Across industries, there is a growing understanding that competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability are not competing objectives. They can reinforce one another when we work collaboratively. At the Volkswagen Group, this belief is also at the heart of our regenerate+ approach. Creating impact at scale, requires collaboration at scale. Thank you, Eva, for the inspiring exchange and the shared conviction that the future of circularity will be built through ecosystems, not individual organizations. Let us keep up our momentum and #Movewhatmatters. #ClimateWeekNYC #CircularEconomy #Collaboration #Partnerships #regenerate+ #PassionForFuture

Dirk Voeste hat dies geteiltParticipating in New York Climate Week, it became very clear to me ... ... that sustainability moved from an abstract ambition to become a tangible business driver. And its impact is becoming more and more visible. With more than 1,500 events across the city, #ClimateWeekNYC felt larger than ever. Discussions ranged from electrification, climate action and circular economy to nature, ecosystems, carbon footprint methodologies and AI. But beyond all these important conversations, one message stood out: We have many of the ideas we need. The challenge now is scaling them. Some of my most valuable moments during the week were not on stages, they were in discussions with colleagues, partners and peers who are working every day to turn ambitions into action. Because the next phase of sustainability is not about creating more pilot projects. It is about industrializing solutions. Scaling them across value chains. And making them part of everyday business. I was grateful for the opportunity to share Volkswagen Groups #CircularEconomy strategy and our implementation pathway, "Reduce & Grow", as well as discuss how our #regenerate+ sustainability strategy is helping us to translate ambition into measurable impact. Both pathways reinforce something we strongly believe in: sustainability and business success are not opposing forces. When sustainability is embedded into core business decisions, it becomes a driver of resilience, innovation and value creation. Strategies matter. But what matters even more is bringing them to life through partnerships, collaboration and implementation at scale. What gives me #confidence after this week is the strong sense of continuity. Across industries, companies are facing different challenges and moving at different speeds. Yet the commitment to drive meaningful change remains strong. What gives me #optimism is that despite geopolitical tensions, economic pressures and differing starting points, the willingness to work together remains strong. Climate Week reminded me that no company, industry or sector will solve these challenges alone. The future will be shaped by partnerships that turn ambition into action, and action into measurable impact. Thank you to everyone who shared perspectives, challenged assumptions and contributed to the conversations during Climate Week. Now lets get back to work ... and make impact visible! #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #Partnerships #PassionForFuture #MovingWhatMatters

Dirk Voeste hat dies repostetDirk Voeste hat dies repostet🌍 At Climate Week NYC, Dirk Voeste, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Volkswagen Group, joined leaders from around the world at Sustainability LIVE, hosted by Sustainability Magazine, to exchange on how sustainability and business success go hand in hand. Three messages stood at the center of the discussion: • Sustainability and competitiveness belong together. • Circularity strengthens resilience and reduces resource dependencies. • Sustainability creates new business opportunities and drives long-term value creation. As one example, the Volkswagen Group sees circular economy as an opportunity to strengthen competitiveness, increase resilience and unlock new business opportunities. Through recycling, remanufacturing and second-life applications, circular approaches combines economic and ecological value creation. 🗨️ Dirk Voeste, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Volkswagen Group:"The future is not about choosing between sustainability and business success. The opportunity lies in bringing both together." #ClimateWeekNYC #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #VolkswagenGroup #regeneratePlus

Dirk Voeste hat dies repostetDirk Voeste hat dies repostetNature is more than a sustainability topic. It is a resilience topic. At the econsense - Forum Nachhaltige Entwicklung der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. Nature Roundtable, one thing became particularly tangible for me: how closely biodiversity, healthy ecosystems, and long-term business resilience are connected. Visiting recultivated landscapes brought this to life. It showed how ecosystems can develop when nature is given space, diversity, and time, but also how complex these processes are. For companies, this means looking beyond traditional sustainability metrics and better understanding their dependencies on water, soil, raw materials, and ecosystem services. Integrating nature into strategic and operational decision-making is becoming increasingly important. Healthy ecosystems create resilience in landscapes and integrating nature into business decisions can strengthen resilience in companies. Thank you to econsense - Forum Nachhaltige Entwicklung der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. for bringing together such diverse perspectives, and to RWE, Natalie Rothausen, Gregor Eßer and Forschungsstelle Rekultivierung for the opportunity to experience the recultivated landscape firsthand and learn more about the ecological development behind it. #Nature #Biodiversity #BusinessResilience #Sustainability #NaturePositive #ecosense

The European Commission’s Automotive Package marks a shift by moving away from outright technology bans. At the same time, key elements remain misaligned with market realities and risk undermining effective decarbonization. A 90% CO₂ reduction target remains highly ambitious by any global standard. As we approach a decisive year in 2026, getting the implementation right will be critical for both climate impact and competitiveness. Key concerns include mandatory corporate-fleet quotas that disregard customer needs and risk another de facto combustion-engine ban in major markets. Privileging cars based on length only does not incentivize decarbonization performance - neither in production nor in terms of efficiency. A rigid implementation pathway weakens technology neutrality and misses decarbonization opportunities. Counting green steel and renewable fuels only from 2035 and solely to fill the 10% gap preserves the '0 g/km' logic instead of incentivizing a broad push to reduce CO2 emissions across the entire value chain. To make the framework effective, targeted adjustments are needed: ➡️ implement the target without compensation payments or restrictive conditions, allowing all drivetrain technologies to contribute ➡️ credit verified CO₂ reductions from sustainable fuels and low-carbon materials immediately and without caps ➡️ avoid arbitrary vehicle distinctions (e.g. vehicle length) and rely on measurable efficiency criteria ➡️ pave the way for a new comprehensive decarbonization approach as the tailpipe logic becomes obsolete. The package is a first step in the right direction, but much greater steps are essential to safeguard Europe’s competitiveness and unlock innovation in line with customer demand. #BMWGroup #AutoPackage https://lnkd.in/d7W4AWpV

Motorsport doesn't slow the transition. It accelerates it. I'm looking forward to speaking at IAV SPARK26 in Berlin, where I'll share perspectives on how motorsport can serve as a powerful development platform for the next generation of sustainable mobility. My presentation will explore the role of sustainable fuels in motorsport and how racing helps accelerate the development of technologies that can later be transferred to road applications. Motorsport has always been a proving ground for innovation. Today, it provides a unique environment to develop and validate advanced fuel concepts under the most demanding conditions, where efficiency, combustion performance, knock resistance and reliability directly determine success. Sustainable fuels, leveraging their superior energy density and short- to mid-term defossilisation potential, provide a powerful development platform for future powertrains, where efficiency, performance and sustainability are no longer competing targets but engineering objectives that must be optimised simultaneously. What works under the extreme conditions of racing can help shape the future of mobility beyond the track. Technical feasibility has already been demonstrated. The next challenge is scaling these solutions and integrating them into a broader, sustainable mobility ecosystem. I look forward to exchanging ideas with fellow engineers, researchers, and industry experts in Berlin. #IAVSPARK26 #SustainableFuels #Motorsport #CombustionEngines #PowertrainDevelopment #FuelTechnology #eFuels #RenewableFuels #Innovation #Mobility

👩🏻⚖️Important Climate Ruling: German Federal Government Required to Strengthen Climate Action🌍 Today’s decision by the German Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgericht) is a significant development for the governance of climate policy. The court confirmed that the 2023 German Climate Protection Programme does not, contain sufficient measures to achieve the legally mandated climate targets i.e. including a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65 % by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The ruling states that the German government must supplement the plan with effective additional measures to close the 200-million-tonne CO₂ gap. Importantly, the ruling affirms that environmental associations (in this case Deutsche Umwelthilfe) have standing to challenge climate policy instruments when those instruments fall short of statutory requirements, and that courts can review the substance of such programmes against the legal mandate of the German Climate Protection Act. From a sustainability perspective, this judgment reinforces a critical principle: in democratic systems with strong rule-of-law institutions, policy commitments must be backed by credible, evidence-based implementation pathways. Otherwise they will be corrected. Important example for other countries. The decision helps ensure that governments do not treat climate targets as aspirational rhetoric but anchor them in concrete planning and implementation. This is especially relevant in the face of current scientific consensus on narrowing carbon budgets and the urgent need for systemic decarbonization. Questions for reflection and discussion: 👉 What specific policy measures do you foresee the federal government prioritizing to close the gap identified by the court (e.g., transportation emissions, energy sector reform, building efficiency, carbon pricing adjustments)? 👉 How does this work in your country? I look forward to hearing your perspectives. #CreatingTomorrow
